Swingline Optima 878 stapler reassembly

Cheers mate, worked a treat for my Swingline 747 (the red one from Office Space). Some boofhead at work jammed it up and tried fixing it with a hammer by the looks.... The small spring had come out, the tab at the end was bent, and I had no idea how it was meant to go back together. This video had enough detail to show where everything is meant to go. The only difference being that the copper piece on the 747 is the other way around - the spring sits at the back.

We used your video during after-school maker space to repair a teacher room stapler. The students enjoyed the challenge! Great descriptions!

Thanks for this video! There doesn't seem to be anything else anywhere that even comes close. And SHAME on Swingline for not offering resources for their products! It also worked for my compact Swingline 99PL stapler. Although the 99PL does not have the plastic/nylon piece.

The copper piece should be the other way to push the staples ALL the way to the front. I did mine like this and it works. Otherwise, you'll still have a few staples left when you "run out".

it also works for buffalo #1139 staplers

Unfortunately this doesn't show how to fix a problem with the stapler base: including the bottom underside lever and flat steel spring that holds the stapler up allowing it to work. Sad

We have had nothing but trouble with swingline staplers. Just threw one away because would not feed staples to the very front - no way to fix it as front plate is welded on. Can anyone recommend a TROUBLE FREE brand of staplers for office? Seems like a very simple machine - should be reliable.

Looking at other Swingline staplers, I think you need to take the "copper thingy" out and turn it around. The spring should connect to the rear and not the front. Other than that, fine video.
