I bought this watch about 1 year ago based upon this review. This watch gets alot of wear on my wrist. I have a tudor smile dial for special occasions but you cannot beat this watch. My Tissot ended up with water damage and is trash now unfortunately but this watch is quality and checks alot of boxes. Thank you. This is a great daily watch that fits alot of occasions.
@@johndavolta3124 I haven't checked accuracy with a timegrapher or an app, but seat of the pants it seems quite accurate to me. I haven't tried to regulate.
I was going to save until the end of the year for the Longines Conquest Automatic 39mm blue dial ($869) but after watching this review I'm considering getting this Certina right now instead ($299) I love the blue dial on the longines and the 300m wr but it has no lume and seeing this at 1/3 of the price with lume is super tempting. Specially considering that I'm from Latin America and the Longines is more than one month of salary. Amazing review, subbed immediately. I would just take the iPhone out of the frame.
I don't think you can really go wrong with this watch for under $300. Having said that, the Longines is pretty sweet as well. Thanks for the kind words!
Nice review! Longer videos are always a win. I’m looking at this reference as well as the one with the Powermatic 80, but that one doesn’t have a framed date window.
Glad you liked the video! As I mentioned, I personally prefer the smoother sweep of this model, but if you prefer a longer power reserve, it's not a bad choice.
Thanks Lester, good honest review. I recently bought a certina automatic and have been very impressed with the standard of finish and accuracy for an automatic is very good...
I was about to buy a Hamilton Jazzmaster, then I spotted this beauty, should get delivered today 😃 specs and value seem perfect. Great video, crisp and clean review!
Hey thanks, Kevin! Hope you enjoy the watch as much as I have. Thanks for the kind words of encouragement. I’m working on a couple more reviews as we speak and hope to have them out in the next week or so. Let us know how you get on with the new watch!
I really love your video. I hope to see many more. The watch looks great too. I think Certina doesn't get enough credit, especially outside of Europe... they seem to make really good products at good value, though I admit I have never owned one. Looks great on your wrist as well. It's worth mentioning that the 28,800 vph of this ETA is actually not generally considered a "high beat movement," which is generally said of movements at over 28,800. Apparently Seiko sort of bastardized the term and started calling 28,800 vph movements "Hi Beat" as they were higher beat than most of their range? Anyway, 28,800 is a fantastic, smooth seconds-hand sweep, regardless. I have a watch with the 28,800 ETA and one with the Powermatic 80, and as far as preference, sometimes I prefer the charming sweep of the 2824 and sometimes I am glad that the Powermatic is still running 3 days later or that I don't have to worry about setting it down for a few days... it depends on mood and situation!
Yes, both the ETA and the Powermatic have their own pros and cons. My Hamilton Khaki Field Automatic has the Powermatic movement, and it's great! Hope to get that review done sometime soon. Thanks for the feedback and the comment!
Just bought one of these from Jomashop for $299 and couldn't be more impressed. ETA 2824-2, sapphire, steel bracelet. The silver/white dial is beautiful.
The white dial version is also gorgeous. Almost picked that one myself but I already have several white dialed watches. Solid watch with a solid movement for the price. Enjoy and thanks for the comment!
There is not a watch company out there that beat the value of Certina watches. Such a high quality for such a good price! Some of their dive watches are just as good as TAGs but 200-300 cheaper!
Totally agree - Certina did a great job with this watch as well. You certainly get a lot for your money, and for a "big" brand, this is rare. For these specs, you normally need to look towards a microbrand. It's nice to see a company with the history of Certina giving us some great value-for-money watches. :)
Hey thanks for the kind words and the sub! I have another couple reviews filmed already, but need to find time to edit them. Hope to have at least one new one coming up later this week!
Very nice watch and excellent review. Just started into the watch hobby, got myself a Seiko and Orient automatic, not too expensive but still getting a feel for the whole thing. Just subscribed. Looking forward to seeing your other videos.
Thanks for the encouragement, Brian! It's smart to go for more inexpensive pieces when you are starting out so that you can figure out what actually works and what doesn't work. Would be a shame to drop a few grand on a watch only to figure out its not for you! Thanks for the feedback!
I have been eyeing this exact piece (and colour) for over a year and have yet to pull the trigger. I have too many watches at the moment 😓 If I have any intention to get a Certina in the near future, this will be the ONE. Great review 👍
Thanks for the kind words! I don't think this model would disappoint. I've got way too many watches as well, but that doesn't seem to stop me from buying more. I need professional help! 😂
Interesting video. I find that push pins are far easier to use, no chance of scratching your bracelet with a screwdriver and the smaller holes less obvious. Much better in every way.
This ist stupid 1. links with screws have got only one hole(where the screws Go in), with Pins you got 2 holes, each on one side 2. you Cannot scratch your Watch with a screwdriver, if youre using the Right one and a Little Bit of Safety behavior, you cant scratch the Push pin-Links when you Push them out, but when you put it back in, it es very easy to scratch the Watch and it doesnt Make a Differenz if youre using a Hammer oder the Tool to Push out… If youre really scratch your Watch with screws youre absolutely stupid Screws are Not only much Radier to operate with and they wont Losing strengh by connecting the links, Push Pins do loose their strengh and the Whole bracelet begins so loose and „Gets Longer“ over Time, Not really much, like 0.5mm in total There is a reason why All watches that a Are less expensive do have Push Pins and All the watches above 1000$ do have screws…
I am writing this while still watching, so you may have covered it. I think the price is fairly low because it may be an old/discontinued/clearance model. I believe Certina is now going with the modified ETA with 80 hours reseve and beat rate reduced to standard. I think.
Yes I covered this in the video. I opted for the older non-Powermatic version because I preferred the high beat of the ETA. Both are great buys - just comes down to personal preference!
Congratulations on a very nice debut video! Watched it all, enjoyed it, liked and subed. Nothing negative really but didn't see a lume shot (might have missed it) though I saw a flashlight, also, I think many would say hands are "pencil" not sword, but who cares and I am not an authority. I want one. Lose the second indices and blow up the date window and we have a Blancpain homage a certain Vladimir in Russia wears.... Thanks and Best Wishes. YT says you are in Taipei City by the way on my PC, don't know if that is true...
It's been a while since I filmed this one, but I think there is a short lume shot in there, albeit maybe too short! 😂 Still a pretty solid watch for the money. I am indeed located in Taipei! Thanks so much for taking the time to leave your comments. Helps a lot!
Interesting yours has a white date window and a 20mm lug width. I’ve had two of these from Jomshop and both had a black date window and a 19mm lug width. Wearing mine right now on a Bond NATO. Good review
I love this!! Unfortunately, I am watching this 8 months later...and now I can't find that grey dial anywhere. Joma has the white dial only. Any ideas where I can find this exact watch?
Hi Kennedy! Yeah, it appears as though a lot of people snapped up this one from Joma when they had it on sale. I would probably add myself to the notifications list. If you're looking to scratch that Certina itch right now, I'd consider the DS 4 Day Date which has a nice grey dial as well. Good luck!
The newer model comes with the Powermatic 80, but the one in my video is the older model. The exact part number of my watch is in the video description. Hope that helps!
@@QualityTimeChannel On god I got the exact model u have not the newer one and it came with powermatic 80, actually I used the reference number in the description of this video to buy it. Well, today even jomashop listing mentions powermatic 80.
@@QualityTimeChannel I'm not the only one minute 6 you can see this guy also got powermatic 80 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-MzOWDHGET8E.html
@@ilalezthey use the same model number but placed a powermatic inside. Even the dial says automatic instead of the usual Powermatic 80 they put when using a Powermatic movement. Everything looks exactly the same only the movement was swapped.
If I had it to over again I would have bought this watch over the Hanilton Khaki field automatic. Certina plus for me. 2824-2 that I can regulate. Certina plus 2. It does not say that you can't play golf or tennis in Certina's manual as it say's in Hamilton's manual. Let alone it being about $100 less expensive. Twenty-one mm lug width no big deal as I would just wear it on the bracelet. My vintage Hammy's from 20s,30s,40s and fifties advertised them playing golf.
Hi Jeff! This is definitely a solid piece. I don’t know if I’d personally choose it over my Hamilton Khaki Field Auto. I’ve also got the 39mm version of this watch and really enjoy it. The 20mm lug width does lend it more versatility, but then again, you do save a bundle with the Certina. Tough choice!
I think this is a solid piece for that purpose - thin enough to be a dress watch, and those arabics definitely give it an Explorer vibe. Thanks for stopping by!
Excellent review but this watch uses the Powermatic 80 - NOT the ETA 2824. The ETA 2824 movement is actually a predecessor to the Powermatic 80 movement. Hence this watch has an 80 hour power reserve instead of 38 hours like what the ETA 2824 has. The ETA 2824 is also the predecessor to the Omega coaxial movement BTW.
Thanks for stopping by! Actually, this is an older model of the DS Podium Automatic which does indeed have the ETA 2824 movement in it, and hence a 38hr power reserve. The new models actually say "Powermatic 80" on the dial, which is what you might be referring to. I purchased this one because I preferred the smoother sweep over the extended power reserve of the newer model. The part number of my model is C001.407.11.087.00 so you can check it out. Hope that helps!
@@QualityTimeChannelActually, the newer version of this watch says Automatic on the dial and looks exactly like your watch but the movement now is an Powermatic 80. Was surprised with this as Swatch group normally puts Powermatic 80 on the dial when they are using one. I have seen another reviewer with also a Powermatic movement but the dial states Automatic. Was a bit disappointed but otherwise, the watch is a very good value and looks very good for it's price. I do love the gray sunburst dial and the concentric circles on the indices. The lume on the indices and 12, 9 and 3 are quite weak compared to the lume on the hands. But am not surprised with this as my DS Action Diver also has uneven lume.
I also have a 1960 Hamilton K-416 automatic with the Hamilton 611 movement. It is a Kurf-Fouz? 25-45 which is Certina. Played golf with it and no damage.
This watch is exactly what I was looking for. An everyday watch since I have the Hamilton khaki King in my collection but I can't stand the no AR coating and the 80h PR. I definitely rather have a higher beat rate, so I'll get this actually right now 😅 and put on sale my Hamilton.
Hey thanks for watching! This Certina is a nice watch for sure, but in case I wasn’t clear in my review, it doesn’t seem to have AR coating either. Just wanted to point this out in case it was a big sticking point for you. It does, however, have a high beat rate for that smooth sweep. :)
Hi Rafael! I'm not really a watch flipper kind of guy. If I tire of a particular watch, I either throw it into the watch box for later, or gift it to friends and family. As for this watch in particular, I'm not quite tired of it yet, but if that day comes, you'll be the first to know! :)
Yeah I still think it's somewhere in between as the large Arabics and steel bracelet remind me of the Rolex Explorer. Still, if you throw a leather strap on it, it would look a lot dresser. A very versatile piece! Thanks for the comment!
@@QualityTimeChannel I can see how it may remind you of the explorer. Personally, I think If i owned this piece it would stay on a leather band. I think it could work as formal as dressed up in a suit.
