Better than any TED talk. Daedelus is hella articulate. Giving words to so many impressions I've never expressed myself, but deelpy understand and resonate with. I love when he talks about the ergonomics of the device. The hands spacing, the things he touches (controllers), even the electricity and the way that it flows through the machine. Yes!

Little Music Boxes he actually has a Ted talk that pretty friggin awesomesauce you should check it out if you like this. It’s older and based on the monome but still has the same feel and great explanations of his thoughts on music and sound in general

A far ranging discussion and performance. This reminded me of college- a guest lecturer showing how they perform and then explaining why. The sections where he talks about where the modules are, because he has only 10 fingers, was very insightful. The physical interface has to be sized for human digits. This shows his background in physical instruments- the form of the bass is influenced by the dimension of the human form. Very well done. Many thanks!

This was a great listen and performance. It's really cool seeing a new take on DJing using modular -- this is the sort of sampling I really love, really opens up the creative potential.

@@funkytransport No, he was playing a sample from the track and live remixing it. I'd accept it could be better called a remix, but I'd still suggest 'cover' is appropriate

Wonderful and inspirational video. It is so hard to know what a modular system will do at any moment. I love the idea of making sure you have strong intent, and letting that lead the patch.

If you really wanna see what a modular can do at any moment, search for stevio Primes watch the music and look for his explanation video... all live improvised.. no eeffing recorded music... IE: the real deal... this vid is just so lame (((

toonertik why so much hate bro. He is doing something different. Perhaps it’s not your idea of the best use of a modular setup but it’s his thing and the simple fact he is using it in a new way is inspirational in its way.... lame you say? You sir are lame for not only thinking so blandly but sheesh you must really be lame to post about the lameness multiple times lol just sayin

Don't get me wrong, he is really a lovely guy but he could have just used a SP404 for that kind of stuff. Just loading prerecorded songs into a modular system seems pretty odd to me. I don't feel like this has something to do with performing live, the modular and all these patch cables just make his "putting effects on tracks thing" look cooler. But really no offence, that's the great thing about eurorack, everyone can use his "synth" in a totally different way. No hate, just my thoughts about his performance.

Really interesting use case for modular that I've not seen much before. I love the STS. Have drones and 'complete tracks' loaded into it for sort of remixing and mangling purposes. I might consider doing something similar for my live setup....

wait am i really the only person here that is extremely annoyed by the fact it never switches to the webcam view of his modular whilst he's explaining his setup, and also whilst he's performing? who the heck edited this.... it's just common sense
@Rareos
@Rareos 4 года назад
perhaps the editor didn't have access to the footage of that camera, or maybe there is no footage at all...and the webcam's job was a live feed on to the projector screen for the people in attendance.

Very eloquent, and love the thought gone in to this but for starters what is wrong with sci-fi soundscapes on modular? I love creating soundscapes on modular and they are always different every time. Also how has this moved things on? I’m not slating what you are doing because I love any way that people get creative with modular but to me this is just Djing with fx. Interested to see where it goes though.

So, this setup is serving as a live effects rack to entire tracks being loaded from an SD? As in, are there any sounds being generated by the modules?

Yeah... really lame... "oh look, I recorded these tracks in the studio, look how I can add some reverb and other fx... lame lame lame... For some true live improvised modular music search for stevio primes... 2 vids to watch 1 the performance 2: the system break down and explanations as to what is going on...
@LittleMusicBoxes
@LittleMusicBoxes 4 года назад
Yeeesssss, technically. He was super eloquent about the reasons this setup makes sense. I bet if you had 4 hours to play with his rig, it wouldn't "feel" like what you are reacting to, if that makes sense. There is an aesthetic and kinetic difference in interfacing with these machines (compared to a DAW or another screen-heavy solution.) The music might be the same (or even worse, a lot of the time.) But that's not really the point. This is the stuff that gets worked on my people who need it. And then it develops and then gets better, and eventually really good, and maybe a little popular. And that is when Kanye (or whatever musical auteur has a strong voice at that time) will use it, and talk about it, and popularize it. Everyone will understand it through that popular lens. But this guy will do the hard work of making this that people don't understand. That's the way it goes.

for the record my question was to ensure I didn’t miss anything. Since watching this video it really made sense to me on how a modular rig could skip the vco’s and work as a compact sampler.
@LittleMusicBoxes
@LittleMusicBoxes 4 года назад
@@NineteenEightyJuan Ah! yea! My modular is 90% sample based. And it still has the "feel" of that mad scientist rig. Because as soon as you switch a VCO our for a sample player, you still have to figure out what to do with it the same. Same filters, same env or fx or whatever, being controlled by the same cv sequencers and all. I have a video called 'patch notes' you might find interesting. Maybe.

Other than modulation, what is the modular synth doing? Seemed like it was all pre-recorded loops being fired automatically? I know he usually plays with a grid, just wasn't sure if there was some kind of triggering mechanism or something in his modular setup...
