Clarification: Flex is a Native Instrument and not a VST. Thanks @zitronekoma30

Technically it is a VST. It's a hybrid Subtractive, Wavetable and FM synthesizer similar to what Omnisphere is. Similar to Omnisphere, you can manipulate the sound but can't completely alter it.

Congratulations on making a RU-vid thumbnail that wasn't over the top and revolting. Refreshing vibes here and great motion graphics. I've been an Ableton user for 10 years and picked up FL recently. There aren't enough crash course videos going from Ableton to FL, but I appreciate this one for what it is!

Thank you! I really appreciate the comments. I used FL first then tried out Ableton. I like both and continue to use both since I have collaborators that use each. They both seem to give me different vibes so It just depends on which one I'm in the mood to use. Most times if I make a video on a technique in one DAW I''ll make another video of that same technique for the other.

Excellent comparison. I use both as well, It just give me different mindset. once I learned both I love both. I use Maschine 2.0 via Maschine MK3 inside of Ableton as well, best of both worlds.

I agree. It's like if I go into Ableton I know I wouldn't have come up with that beat in FL and vice versa. I have only gotten to play with the MK3 for a bit but liked what it did. I plan on upgrading in the near future so thanks for the tip on the MK3!

Great video, your opinion is interesting i have used both but prefered Fruity Loops even if Live is a great DAW too. Btw ( 8:04 ) In FL with Patcher plugin you can make an entire effect chain with unlimited plugin on a bus line and even create your own VSTs defenitely my favorite FL plugin possibilities inside it are mind blowing !

nice comparisons, i feel the same way. Been trying to learn FL as of recent so i can collab better with the FL folk. some of the features on FL are amazing for sure but deffo took me longer to wrap my head round the concept and UI of FL compared to Ableton. I agree tho i think it will all depend on what mood i’m in. sometimes switching up the daw from time to time is what you need to keep your ideas fresh. There’s genres i feel will be more fluid to make on Ableton and vice versa
@wilmaker
@wilmaker 10 месяцев назад
The UI In FL can be confusing at times for sure. Using both does offer a good switch-up. I do feel what type of beat or zone I'm in, I agree, It's helpful knowing both. Especially when collaborating.

The workflow of ableton was just much easier for me to pick up. You start out bare bones and add in whatever you need. FL seems to kind of throw everything at you at once and it’s a bit daunting. FL seems do be the dominant DAW for people who make beats though, that much is undeniable.
@wilmaker
@wilmaker 9 месяцев назад
Ableton was easier to grasp for me as well. FL had a bigger learning curve for me. I saw Ill Factor use Ableton and explain his workflow and knew I had to try it. I'm glad I use both though. It makes it easy to collab and FL does have some great features. Most of the time Ableton fits my vibe If I'm creating on my own.

making a track in fl studio would take me usually 4-8 hours, usually more...in ableton, i can really vouch for the fast precision because when you're in fl, when you want everything to be in color you have to rename each track unlike that of ableton and when you just want to group certain tracks and put a quick filter on them you can do just that...but the thing is, if you use fl studio first, you'd be confused in terms of the grid sequence when switching to ableton...but for me, they really do have really good abilities that I can't say which one is better, they're both good to me in terms of workflow and arrangement. it's really a matter of mood and when I'd prefer one over the other...
@wilmaker
@wilmaker 8 месяцев назад
They both are really good daws. Depending on which one I’m using it makes me approach the beat differently. I feel I’ve made a lot of good music in both. I do find the workflow in Ableton to fit my vibe a little more most times but I really don’t mind using FL. I have beats I’ve made in FL I don’t think I’d have created if I was using Ableton. I plan on using both unless the workflow changes drastically in one.

Thanks! Appreciate it. I’m not sure what the limit is in Ableton. I added over 40 just to see and it kept going. You can always add patcher in FL to add more or you can always just route your track to another mixer track if you need more than than that in any daw.

Fl studio is speed, ableton is precision. Why not beat make in fl studio and mix n master in ableton?
@wilmaker
@wilmaker 10 месяцев назад
Personally, it depends on my mood or situation. Because I've been using both DAWs for a while now It can turn into which DAW I recently used or who I'm working with. If I know the client/collaborator is using one DAW I usually try and keep things uniform. Thankfully I like both and don't mind using either one.
@AnonymousMr2
@AnonymousMr2 9 месяцев назад
@@wilmaker How would you compare their engines? In terms of sound and mixing? For instance I have notice that the balance of the mix changes quite a lot during a mixing session in FL even when you add something small. I mean the balance is floating quite a lot during a session in the DAW and when I export I can see the change is not very significant. But from what I've seen here on RU-vid about Ableton is that when you mix and add or remove sounds Ableton acts quite stable and the balance seems quite solid. Is it possible that sounds tend to stay much more firm and solid without moving much in an Ableton mixing session?
@wilmaker
@wilmaker 9 месяцев назад
I personally don't notice a sound difference between the two. I used to think I did until I realized I was using FL's template that had the Fruity Limiter on it. I feel as far as mixing and balance, I'm not sure if it's my ears or not. Sometimes things seem different in Ableton but it might be the mixing layout. Thankfully I don't run into too many issues with either. My startup time is sometimes slower in Ableton but It might be my computer or session.@@AnonymousMr2

Ableton has good quick easy effect plugins and audio recording is much easier than FL. But Ableton does lack in quality sounding VST synths. Fl Studios effect plugins are more complicated but more creative. FL Studio synths like Harmor and Sytrus are on par with most Standalone VSTS. The good thing about Ableton is you can be a producer and a DJ with that DAW. Good thing about FL Studio is you can make a song with just stock plugins.
@wilmaker
@wilmaker 8 месяцев назад
I agree the effects and recording is much easier to use in Ableton. I didn't struggle much at all when first using it. FL Seems a little cluttered at times. Ableton also seems to be easier to use for sound design with tools catered towards it. I feel the same way about Ableton, you can be a producer, use it for live performance and DJ with it. It's really versatile in that aspect. I'll have to check out Harmor and Sytrus again for sure. FL is pretty balanced for sure. I feel You can definitely put together a quality song in both DAWs with the stock plugins. I do agree though FL seems to be a bit more versatile with their VSTs. I think there both great DAWs and am looking forward to Ableton 12 and see what FL has in store for the future.

i use fl for beats (because of piano roll and gross beat) and ableton for recording/sample manipulation (because i will never learn edison lmao)
@wilmaker
@wilmaker 9 месяцев назад
The piano roll in FL is hard to beat and I'm also a fan of gross beat. I do prefer to use Ableton for recording and sampling as well. Even though Edison has plenty of good features and I do use it from time to time, It can be complicated. I find sampling in Ableton to be a little more straightforward. Sometimes I'll just use FL as a plugin to use the piano roll to do my drums so I can just get the best of both worlds. If you didn't know how to set that up already, I have a video I just did showing how to route everything if you're interested. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mrJoYLcPrt4.html

Although I have tried many many times I could never get on with Ableton. Rather than making music I would spend far too much time trying to figure it out, aslo the arrangement view is one of the worst I have ever tried to use and I've used plenty. If I want to make music quick then FL Studio is my choice with Cubase, Ableton is overrated.
@wilmaker
@wilmaker 8 месяцев назад
I can understand that for sure. I used FL before using Ableton and thought the same thing. It wasn’t till I seen Illfactor using clip view and arranging a song until I found how useful it would be in my workflow. A DAW is supposed to let you be creative without you having to figure things out. So I get it, besides FL’s a great DAW. It’s supposed to match your vibe and enhanced your workflow.

I can understand that. The first time I seen FL I felt the same way. It wasn’t till I seen what it was capable of that I decided to try it myself. My biggest complaint with FL is that it feels cluttered. I need to feel comfortable in a daw to creating something worth sharing. It’s a great daw if you can get past the appearance. Are you sure? You're comparing it to a grey background (grey is the thing that isn't light nor dark, so it's unreadable during the day and eye-raping during the night) with black fonts on top of it (black on top of grey is something like bright yellow on top of white) which every Ableton user I've seen has Surely FL can't be that bad compared to this
