For the last 18 months I've not let the lawn crew edge or use a weed eater in my back yard. ru-vid.comUgkx_rBCFuDW1zD6blTGhLkvAkxU657uR_lG I didn't like the fact that they just kept cutting the edge of the lawn further and further from the rock lining the flower beds and leaving bare ground. And the grass was trimmed or scalped several feet around trees, etc. It was a constant battle with them so I told them to just mow and no trimming. I have Zoysia grass so it grows pretty slow. Obviously after a while it could use some trimming. I'm in my 80's so I can't do much of it myself. Finally I decided that if I could find a lightweight battery powered trimmer I might be able to do some light trimming. I decided to buy the LST201 20V trimmer. And it works great for my needs. I have back yard with about 150' of flower beds and several trees to be trimmed. I can lightly trim the whole yard with a single charge! The grass I trimmed was only a few inches high but the trimmer was more powerful than I expected.

I definitely agree! I ran stihl products for many years, no hassle. I love Stihl and Echo! However, I love the simplicity of all of the EGO products! They are light weight, and they get the job done! Perfect for a diy residential area. As far as mowing lawns as a business, gas might be the better option. I think EGO does way better than Kobalt or any other battery products!

Great review. I haven’t made the full switch to battery just yet, but I am grabbing a battery trimmer /edger and blower. It seems perfect for late evening cleanups. My gas equipment gets pretty loud. Just trying to be a good neighbor when I can.

Pete I have had the entire line of Ego products for several Years. With that power head for the stick trimmer I can attach a pole saw for trimming trees, a hedge trimmer for trimming bushes, a tiller for the garden (which I used when I did my renovation) I am a big fan of Ego and also have the lawn mower. One of my 4 batteries stopped working and Ego sent me a replacement battery for no Charge. I have a son that lives up north in Chicago and he uses the Ego Snow blower which he says works great also! I highly recommend Ego lawn tools for the DIY homeowner. I don't think it's the right thing for a lawn care service unless you invest in a lot of batteries or can use the chargers on your truck while you make your rounds.

Imo there is no reason for a home owner to buy gas tools in 2022, I have about 1.3 acres and I waited way too long to get rid of the gas stuff. I ended up with the milwaukee trimmer and blower, and one of the green works “commercial” line mowers. I can get through my yard on one set of batteries. The ego stuff looks really nicely made!

You should grab a good electric mower (and a blower), from the same mob so the batteries are interchangeable. Have a couple of chargers tho and the biggest battery you can. The good thing that you didn't consider is the maintenance - oil changes etc. For electric you only need to change the blades, not the grease & oil. Never mind the lack of buying fuel

Great review Vid Mr. Pete. My biggest issue I have with my gas vs. battery on a trimmer is not being able to feather the throttle. They just don't have the response that you would expect. My battery trimmer 80v green-works has a gradual rpm ramp up. For some reason that really annoys me (Pet Pev) . Curious if the Ego feathers the throttle better? Besides that I see no other reason to go with gas power. Peace and God's Love! Chad Upstate NY

I spent months going over this decision and if I went battery, EGO would be it. But it still falls short, and so I ended up buying a New Honda HRX217 mower. I've used Honda Power Equipment since the early 90's and my '93 Honda HS624 SNowblower still starts first time every time. 29 years-old and runs better than most new machines out there. Honda maintenance is EASY. Gasoline internal combustion engines will still be around for decades to come as battery material costs will soar with increased production making it too costly. Just look at the cost of a replacement Ego 10ah battery $450.00 + Tax. Almost the cost of my new Honda mower that will last for decades to come... But if Battery is for you, EGO seems a good choice among it's current competition.

I love Ego, it's the best and most well thought out battery platform imo. I've been considering their 0 turn mower, however, it would just be an overkill for my 7k sq ft lawn. With Ryobi stepping up their game and coming out with a smaller 30" 0 turn mower, I might be switching over to at least their mower. I'd really like to see Ego come out with more -- dethatcher, smaller 0 turn mower, garden tools etc.

Hey Pete if you don’t like the clockwise head rotation of the string trimmer, you can get the string trimmer attachment for your edger, it spins counter clockwise. I grew up with curved shaft trimmers that spin clockwise and liked that I could walk forward when trimming. It took a long time for me to get used to walking backwards with a straight shaft trimmer to keep debris out of the beds or from hitting the siding. Never really understood why a straight shaft head turns counter clockwise ? Very nice review.

as the years go by, dealing with gas more and more and having to mix oil and gas for two stroke equipment is getting very old. and im with you on the smell. whats worse is the fumes from the exhaust of the two stroke trimmers, that nasty smell lingers on your clothes till you wash them. and not to mention its just downright horrible for our bodies and the environment. but honestly, battery technology hasnt gotten cheap or efficient enough to switch to all electric in my opinion. i will be doing it in the future but ill give it a couple years.

EGO nailed it with this trimmer! It's light, balanced, and has plenty of trimming power. No more bumping and I love the Line IQ feature. Just like in your video, I was able to keep trimming without stopping. I kept feeling the need to "bump" the trimmer when the line got low, but the trimmer adjusted to the perfect length each time. Even in the vertical position the line would advance. I love the new trigger safety as its smooth and quick. I haven't had the need to load more line, so I haven't tried the autoload feature yet. This is by far the best trimmer I've ever purchased!!

The only two positives are no gas and lower noise. That’s where it ends. They are NOT nearly as efficient or powerful or even close to the echo stuff. Lots of you tubers pushing echos must be getting them for free. I wonder how many people praising them actually own and use them. The line IQ was horrible. Battery powered equipment has come a long way. All of the big name companies are producing their own line of battery equipment, Stihl, Echo, Husqvarna. The problem that most of us have is the initial costs. If you already have a line of gas powered equipment, switching over to battery stuff will be a wallet flattening experience. The other issue for a lawn care service person is having a way to carry extra batteries and a charging system to last you all day. If a person starting out in the business would buy battery equipment, that might be a great way to go. Something else to consider is buying a battery equipment system which it's batteries can also power your hand tools, drills, sawzalls, chainsaws, angle grinder, etc. In that case, Makita has it all covered. I would imagine that putting some thought into it would be wise. One last thing to consider is the cost of non ethanol gas these days. At $5.00 per gallon, battery powered equipment is starting to grow on the lawn care industry.

You sure that ponytail ain't turning you into some kinda hippie ?... lol.. just kidding 😂. I will have to think twice though when you next get the electric zero turn mower ! Actually I looked real hard at getting the electric / battery push mower. That brand is one of the best currently on the market. The actual "unit " price is very reasonable however batteries are not cheap. The problem for me is length of run time. So it meant additional batteries... but as for the trimmer and edger... very nice 👌. Again it's a bit more expensive... then the typical homeowner smaller gas powered units. Huge improvement over the old cord versions and electric rechargeable versions. That typically lasted about one season... so cost savings there and the convenience and savings of no fuel and oil, to have to store. Another concern is something you run to with hand tools. Often times the company comes out with a new version in a year or two. And what happens ? Suddenly the battery is changed as well. So you can no longer get batteries for your original version. That battery will need to be replaced and you can't get it any longer. So you have a great working piece of equipment that you can no longer use because you can no longer get batteries for it... now you have to purchase all new equipment. $$$$... Ok seriously a ponytail 🙄 ...

As of December 2020 EGO and Lowe's formed an exclusive relationship. Thought you'd like to know. Thank you for the honesty and God bless! 😁👍 P.S. EGO is also available at Ace Hardware and on Amazon. I can only assume they pay royalties to Lowe's. Bottom line, EGO is NOT available at Home Depot.

You have probably covered this before, but why do you have straw bales in your beds?

One thing not mentioned is the difference to the customer who doesn't have to listen to noisier equipment.

Not related to this video but, I’ve seen you discuss hydroseeding. I’m building a house. It’ll be done in early may, I’m hydroseeding then. I’m zone 7. Is it too late to hydroseeding fescue in may? Any lawn guys care to weigh in??

Hydroseeding will give you a much better chance at success. All depends on how much water it gets after that

I got the EGO lawn mower. Sucks with dewy grass or long grass but worth the $$. I was impressed with the EGO 24" self propelled snowblower. but for a leaf blower I gotta stick with gas.
