A few decades ago, people would sit down to watch a +90 minute movie maybe a couple of times a week, at best. These days we're like "Oh look, Hyce just posted a new video."
7:30 There's one more you might wanna know: Shift-click the coupler to bottle the air and pull the pin. Don't worry about the gladhands they'll let go eventually.
34:10 SAL is Seaboard Air Line, ran from Virginia down to Florida and over into Alabama from 1900 to 1967 when it merged with Atlantic Coast Line. I hear a lot of both of those mentioned when watching Distant Signal videos, mostly down in FL/GA area where he lives now being CSX lines.
Shit Die & Southern car shop getting their car back: "Hey, this was a box car when we sent it out to you, now it's a flat car! What gives!?" Eat Shit & Die rep: "No, we're pretty sure it was a flat car. Don't ask us why there's a door track, it was like that when we got it."
That is a lot of useful information on controls! Good to know for my own games. Also...the tannery uses lime (the mineral), not limes (the fruit). But I'll take the Jimmy joke regardless. 😜😜
Heh, you got me to try this out. And inspired to make a company name with an in-joke. So, my railroad is called "Delivery, Hauling & Misplacement Operations". (and yes, you can use to split it in multiple lines on the tender). Fitting for a logistics company that sometimes forgets to check the switch and finds it out halfway across the map. But the thing about DHMO is that it also refers to a certain substance. A substance that causes countless deaths and destruction, yet is completely uncontrolled. Dihydrogen Monoxide. And I'm totally powering trains with it. If someone didn't get the joke, Dihydrogen Monoxide is just a unnecessarily fancy way to read H2O.
4:39 you may work it out later, but you press "shift" and "?" to get a reading of the track. Only seems to work close to the locomotive.from what I have seen.
So nice to watch an actual railroader switch in this game. Some of these bloggers are soo slow doing it. This is much more accurate to how you railroad in real life!
Hyce, you can use shift+r to push cars as well as rerail, so if you get a car stuck on a switch it's possible to get out and push. Also if you shift click the knuckles, the air will bottle as well. Edit: 11:19 ok you knew about getting out and pushing.
hey hyce. first goddamn this is a long vid. secondly the way i handle the sley mica and schist and sidings at dillsboro is that i bring all the cars with me for that on the freight up to (currently) bryson and then bring them back down on the interchange train. this way i find it easier dealing with the "wrong way" facing sidings lol. this is how i do it tho, i find it easier than dutch dropping cars on the main. also shift+R allows you to push cars if you weren't aware. helps out with cars stuck on a switch : D
I drop them in the Whittier siding (with stenzel and hollifield) and let the eastbound passenger train lift and drop them(or the first freight through). I also let the westbound passenger serve the Whittier house track since it's on that side.
@@jasonmsmith2 Dillsboro is East of Wilmot, so you'd have to go back West again. Unless you're thinking the Dillsboro tracks like Locust Pin & Dillsboro Fuel.
34:12 Seaboard Air Line. The railroad before it and the Atlantic Coast Line, or ACL(you'll see them in here too) merged to form the Seaboard Coast Line
I am loving this game, I've already put far too many hours into it, I just hope the AI eventually get's to the point it can do everything. I've got most of the route (Sylva to Alarka) in my solo game, and 10 engines. And right now much of the game is just teleporting across the map between AI services to give them instructions.
Heya Hyce. Loving the Railroader content. Been having a blast playing this myself. You mentioned mods have started coming our and that brings me to one I'm using that actually allows you to set which stations AI stops at. Makes for easy passenger service. I can link it to ya if you'd like. Or to anyone else curious.
What would be very good for this game would be player created assets. Buildings, models, sound, and entire operations (Map Editor). This would inject decades of replay value.
I do find it funny how Hyce on his Review run just balls to the wall and high balls for hard mode in the career mode and just starts hard core railroading with 3 engines.
17:33 Working for a city, leaving something in the dirt for 6 months feels accurate. Hell, living out in the country, there's some problems that just lay in the yard, until you find time and energy to sort it. The better sort of folks and municipalities out there are those who get on that stuff faster. But sometimes, your hands are tied and you just can't handle it right now.
You can quickly shut off the brake lines if you shift click then then click the coupler, saves a ton of time not messing with the valves. It's just like connecting them, but reverse operations.
1:21:33 Yeah, more like 20. But believe me, THAT'S A GOOD THING FOR THAT LINE. I've found the S-bend and the big curve before the passing siding are really only good for 20, 25 at most if you like the screeching of flanges against rail. Over that, and damage starts adding up, FAST.
Yeah, shenanigans is how I’d describe my day today on Railroader. While babysitting an AI passenger train my manual freight at the other end of the map rammed my set outs. I wish there was a hot key for bringing up a centralized traffic control system.
One last thing I want to mention, it seems that any new pieces of rolling stock you buy are just INSTANTLY sent to the interchange. Not kidding, I ordered two skeleton flats and my first Prairie expecting them to arrive with the cars for tomorrow, only to find them happily sitting in my interchange instantaneously. Now look, I'm not the one to bite the hand that feeds me, but...WHAT THE-
2:54 on the topic of bottleing the air (not having any railroad experience) i never understood why you are joking about it in a if this were the real railroad i'd be fired now. unil youtube recomended me a training video by the UP about bottleing the air. but now it makes sense.
I've done double drops at ela! gotta have the locomotive at the bumper and the cars ahead of it, better if you go fast, break, then break more to create the sparation
This game looks like fun, but it also looks like a handful when you're doing it by yourself. I'm not sure how you manage more than like 3 locos at a time very effectively. Also, I have to say it: 1:14:34 "That's a fender bender!"
Somehow this feels more like minigolf than railroading! I feel like this was the attitude those guys must’ve had back in the day. If less than 2 cuts are rolling down the yard at once, you’re going too slow!
27:36 Something else you could've done is shunt the empty boxcar, as well as the one in front of it, off of the siding, then dutch drop the loaded boxcar back in(which is something I would do in my save, honestly. Even though I'm the reborn Pere Marquette in Railroader, given some of the maneuvers I pull that are hilariously risky, seems I partially run by ES&D regulations XD)
Hyce, I don't know when you recorded this, but they made a change you might enjoy. Shift-click on the couplers to pull the pin on them AND closes the angle cocks. Also, because the coupler has a bigger "hit box", its easier to do on the fly than trying to get close enough in to click the gladhands. Hopefully, you already know this and many many of your viewers mentioned it to you.
Shift and ? Is command for checking track grade and curvature. If you get observation car use sandbox mode and use command /set carID (dont use spaces) and then 1 is dim 2 is on and 0 is off I know this game needs refinement but given how there is a help guide on Steam that hilarious tells you how to quit playing and not play for hours on end i think its clear this game has a bright future. Also GRRAAAAAAANNNNND TRUNK
To be honest, I appreciated the long video. Stuff got done, and as you said, you couldn't really split it up. Also, about not being able to click on cars: it looks like you have to click the car body. You were clicking on the lumber.
Hyce = go buy more Skellie cars to make the Logging Camp run profitable. there's also Pulpwood Spurs up there you can fill up too. make a train worth it's Beanz! your Pax train needs 1 more coach, the Obs. Car and a baggage car. you may need a Consolidation 2-8-0 for dragging bigger trains around and tackling grades. the Mogul and 10 wheeler are only good for 8-10 cars up the Connely Branch
That new (to me, at least; wasn't on the RO OST Spotify release) track with 70% ostinato and 30% strum is fascinating and there's no other word about it. Would love to hear a Behind the Song about it :) and Hello from [SAL = ]Seaboard Air Line turf!
I heard the music drop out at 1:11:17 and was like oh no. and AT FIRST I was like. this is about the log flats isn't it... but then you put the handbrakes fine on em... waiting for the shoe to drop. then 1:13:28. "Oh. I'm about to watch you _flatten_ hollifield heating oil with two tank cars thats whats happening."
Grade check is RShift + *question mark* Iirc theres a control setting that you can change by going to menu - preferences then keybinds i think it was to move the camera between following either car in a selected consist
3:46 "Shift + ?" is the combination you're looking for(and it has to be in that order as well. Otherwise, it doesn't work. Both shift keys work, so I'd suggest the right one)
Ctrl+t i think brings you to the buy menu. I just got the game today and am excited to play the switching puzzles. I may be mistaking that for teleporting tho. It was shift+t actually
14:35 if you want to work for a railroad that treats you ok and you can afford to make less money work for a smaller railroad. Terminal railroads are weird little families
It's not explainable, even by me. Lol. I think there was some promo video that mentioned the GT and it has ridiculous reverb on it and it's just sort of a meme now.
you do know that the hand wheels on all the cars also set the brakes? I never use the UI to apply brakes on those cars, it is faster to just click the brake handles on the cars 😁
Sad to inform that steamtown which I live near was forced to retire its 2-8-4 due to its bent frame from a head on collision in World War Two Canadian National number 3254 this was a few years ago probably 2 or 3 years ago
Big fan of these longer guys with the more relaxed running/ format. I like to set them in the background and click back in for the cockatoo noises and brownings. Do other things in the interim. Come on, Hyce, isn't the "train A leaves x at t travelling v, train B leaves y at t2 travelling v2; where will they meet" a standard engineering problem? :D
Sissy tank cars, that dunk wasn’t spicy! That was more of a Mild Honey BBQ level of dunk, I was expecting a Carolina Reaper level from yeeting cars uphill to Stenzel!
