I have always wondered why Norfolk Southern never tried harder to get into rebuilding locomotives for others. The Wheeling and Lake Erie and the Reading and Northern would be natural customers for their own SD60Es, as would Watco and G&W.
Hearing 6900 was released November of 2010….thats 13 years ago… I feel old now. 😂 Once again, an absolute masterpiece AC, always look forward to you rolling out new videos. Keep up the awesome work.
Does or did the NYSW 3634 make stops and pickup at the Susquehanna hat company 😁 Honestly, though this a nice looking train and appreciate all the info. Also at 28:33 shouldn't that switch have a lock on it.
Conrail had the first 60i ever built. It was originally 60m, 5544, and fitted with the first WhisperCab. Some 60i's were built in Juniata, from 'kits' delivered by EMD and some were built by EMD. The SD60i's were the best locomotives that Conrail ever had. Conrail was transitioning to all EMD, with the SD80MAC being their latest order. This was changed in subsequent orders by NS and CSX, for the takeover, to 70MAC's for CSX and standard cab SD70, conventional DC power, for NS. The NS units were the absolute worst engines ever. NS has always been shitty with their power.
@johnandrus3901 its funny you mentioned that last part about them always being terrible with their locomotives! I heard that same thing with the BNSF crews here at Thayer (most of our non BNSF power is NS, by the way). In fact, they said alot of the NS locomotives back in the day didn't even have an actual toilet, just a hole cut into the seat with a bucket lined with a trash bag inside.
