You are the first contemporary swing dancer I've seen that doesn't appear overly choreographed (horrible ballroom competition swing which I hate). Your style approaches 40s dancers like Jewel McGowan and Jean Veloz and just looks so natural, like you don't have to think about it and you simply enjoy yourself. Your partner's style is also authentically 1940s and it's great how he plays a supporting role as a sort of ballast to your "frenetics". I'll be watching all the videos on your channel although I'm too old to learn new tricks…
Thanks for another cool video. Love the twin feature! Love the music! Love about everything! Well, one small detail is that the music is way louder than your voice, on some other videos as well, so I end up turning up the volume when you speak, and down again when the music starts. Don’t want to disturb the neighbors! But great job!
Daaaang. I need to do a better job of fixing my volume. I've been leaving that for the end and then I'm sloppy :P thanks for letting me know. I'll be better.
Could men, or the lead role for that matter, execute the swivel? I am a male and I find this move particularly attractive visually but I don't see your lead partner ever doing it. I was just wondering if it's a no no for men to do this move. Thanks so much!
Hi, how did you count the move at 6:29 when you jump and settle, then pa-rum jump up and drag your right feet while you are swing to the other side? I always want to learn how to do that styling but I couldn't count it right. I learn better if I could count the step. Thank you.
Hey Laura! I've been looking far and wide for fellow lead-swiveller's! Do you do this yourself when you lead or know anyone who does this a lot? Aside from social/cultural reasons, do you think there are any significant reasons against doing it? Thank you so much!
I do not lead swivels when I lead. I don't even lead twists when I lead switches. As far as leaders who do, currently no one comes to mind. As a follow it's not my preference because 1) it could prevent me from doing a variation, and 2) it could prevent me from doing swivels. When I swivel, I'm keeping my torso more straight and twisting my hips. If a lead twists my hand (and therefore my torso), it will reduce my hip motion, because now I have to focus more on staying connected to myself. It might feel to me like that leader is prepping a turn or something. That's my hot take on it, anyway. Good question!
