The other day my oldest son (19) and I were driving and listening to Liquid Metal on satellite radio. Jose was playing 2 seconds of a song and you had to guess it. He played one and my son goes “that’s Pantera, you can tell by the sound of the guitar.” Definitely a proud father moment!
A few years back before the Devin Townsend Band disbanded I saw a small show at Leamington Spa, UK before their Sonisphere debut and a huge tech issue occurred where the backing click track messed up a second started in their in-ear monitors. Drummer Ryan Van Poederooyen was the only member to continue playing and had to focus on the original click track while another played over the top. You could see the focus and struggle in his face as he played and tech guy attempted to fix it, I have never seen concentration like it! The band managed to come back in towards the end and you could see in Devins face the level of appreciation and respect for Ryans skill as a musician. Incredible stuff.
RVP rules. Met him at music school for a presentation. He signed my Synchestra and Accelerated Evolution CD's and gave me a pair of sticks. Coolest musician ever.
Long live Dime, Vinny, Rex and Phil! I’ll always have a special place in my heart for Pantera! I still visit them in the cemetery and attend Down shows to support Phil! Panthers forever!
Hello and good morning. I'm Vinny, Tosins tech. There seems to be some confusion regarding the kaizen tuning pegs. The pitch adjustment is located on the back of the headstock, the locking mechanism is on the front. Cheers
Man - Kirk nailed that fail - even the best band around can make mistakes, and the fans know they are only human. That makes shows so good sometimes! Dont want robotic perfection every fukn show right?!
Metallica is one of the few Bands that can get away with this. Once they got Elderly, they developed a sense of Humor. Lars even finally pulled the drumstick out of his ass.
YES! Catching occasional goofs and mistakes is the icing on the cake at live shows. I saw Neil Peart screw up once but it was so fast if you blinked and didn't have all his drum parts memorized you never would have caught it. He played a fill on an old song and went for a tom that wasn't there anymore (he replaced it with his ride cymbal). He recovered so fast it was scary. It honestly made my night.
Ola, thanks so much for answering my question, like you dimebag will always be my favourite guitarist and I think we were lucky to have had a chance to watch such a great band.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. The way Ola was holding the mannequin. First by holding one cheek then cupping both cheeks of it, just casually talking. I have to say, that made me laugh.🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘❤️❤️❤️
Damn man, what a speech you gave about the legacy of Dimebag. He’s my absolute favorite guitarist of all time and Pantera my favorite band. You can count on me to keep his legacy alive along with you and the other dime fans. Getcha Pull brother 🥃🤘🎸
One thing that definitely hurts in keeping Pantera relevant are Phil's antics and his reputation. That does nothing to help the fans repping Dime and Vinny's legacy, and it's kinda sad.
Dime will never be forgotten. My son wasn't even born when Pantera were around but he's been trying to learn a few songs on Rocksmith! He loves far beyond driven and is only 13. So there's always a new generation even if it's not a "big" as before. I'm one of the few who got to hang with Dime and Pantera after a gig back in 1992 when they were supporting Megadeth I the UK. Great memories. I still have a Pantera signed Countdown to Extinction tour book to this day. Great video as always. 👍
I was lucky enough to win Vinny’s Damageplan shirt that he toured in, lost out last second on a few records and his famous Hellyeah shirt but I’m happy I got something! Congrats on your win!!
RU-vid must have unsubscribed me...RU-vid is the reason for my shitty guitar playing! Finally, I've found something other than myself to blame! Thanks Fluff! ;)
At work right now, its 12.15 on a sunday, been here for three hours, still no costumers. This vid couldnt have come at a better time! Basically getting paid to watch Ola
Ola imo ... dimebags spirit lives on in decapitated, that guitarist is a huge dime fan and honors him by playing in the style of dime but keeping it modern and relevant. Dime for life 🤘🎶
Rob Chapman said he really enjoyed this years NAMM because of the focus on smaller boutique brands.....I think SOLAR woulda killed it at NAMM this year
question about a question: do you think that the controversy surrounding Pantera (the use of confederate flag, Phil's stage "fuck ups") have contributed to this lowering popularity of the band? At least the me, they've lost a bit of that sparkle from when I got to know them... You probably won't touch on that subject (or may have done it already), but I've always been curious about your position on that. Cheers!
Ha! Love your vids, Ola. And you are correct I feel about namn. It’s very sad, I always wished I could go, but I fear it is coming to an end. I always hear from friends who go that work within so they can visit, that it’s not like it was. A lot of huge artists don’t show up anymore, that’s what Made me want to go. (Not knocking you, love to see you at a namn) lol. Much love dude.
If Dime ever falls to the background we have lost the plot of music as a whole! He single handedly shaped GENERATIONS of musicians and fans alike. Pantera was the kind of band that could turn goats piss to gasoline and they drove it home too! Keep on rockin! Twitch from Boston, MA🤘🏻
Unfortunately every band has the downturn in popularity, I am 51 and seen lots of bands go through this, the good thing is there is so much footage, sad to hear about the Dimefest, hopefully the Dime Estate can do a festival tour in honor of Dime and Vinny, getting bands to play honoring these guys. Anytime people might forget about Dime and Vinny and Pantera, they can look at the live in Moscow concert, that’s how they always played, A Big Can of Whoop-Ass!
While watching every single Sunday with Ola my eyes slowly drift to your Ibanez John Petrucci. He’s my favorite guitarist and I love Ibanez guitars. That guitar is so cool! One day I will procure a John Petrucci Ibanez 7 string.
You’ll probably have to build one then. I don’t think his Ibanez 7 strings went to production or even if they did, there were very few (probably a couple) in existence.
@@sanjivharikumar I’ve seen originals that have been made (I think) but they’re so incredibly rare even if there were any. Hopefully I’ll find an original one day, but custom is the second option.
The QOTD had me having feelings, man. The bands I grew up on, Metallica/Megadeth/Slayer/Pantera - two are done for good now and won't be releasing anything new, one is still super visible, and one is well over-the-hill IMO. The only constant is change and it's unavoidable, but it sure can be sad sometimes too. This music that means so much will live on forever but it's up to the kids of the future to do what I did and look back on all eras of music and find what calls to them. Nothing has or will ever speak to me again the way thrash metal does, but you also have to always be looking for the next inspiration lest you stagnate.
Damnnnn I can hear a song right there on those drums, don't think I'll have time this week to record it though! Keeping Dime relevant is definitely hard, I get that. I started learning about Pantera a lot later then when I started getting into metal. He was already gone when I learned about Dime. Still to this day he is a great influence on me when it comes to guitar. Excited to learn what will happen with this Dime Guitarz thing!
Saw him failed the Nothing Else Matters in Abu Dhabi back in 2013, said he was sweating a lot and his hands slipped (which made sense), he actually handled it well, explained it with a big smile, started playing and continued his gig as if it didn't happened. That makes him pretty relatable :) I think no-one really cared.
Ola… The way you hang the guitars on the wall look like something I would like to explore. Are those panels and then you could slide your guitar hooks anywhere. Can you point out where to get those? Thanks..Mickey
NAMM was pretty good this year! Definitely smaller.. and I missed a lot of great brands but Ibanez, Abasi, Siggi Braun were there.. Ernie ball, Vola, on top of the stuff you already mentioned. It was a bit less crowded but the educational/audio community stuff was the same as previous years. A lot less product releases, like you said... But I think it'll be back, it's just too fun to hang with the homies 😅.
Happy Sunday everyone! Thanks for the amazing/consistent content Ola and crew! Fav part of this particular vid.. “Hug someone” ❤️ “hug your family” Genuine. It’s why I’m here. Thanks for the hard work duder! 🤘🏻✌🏻
About Pantera; a brazillian death metal band called Claustrofobia made a Portuguese version of Strength Beyond Strength. Its great, you should check out. But people here "cancelled" them because that "white power" incident with Phil, saying that Claustrofobia were supporting Phil's speech only because they were covering and supporting Pantera. I mean, I definitely see Phil Anselmo with other eyes since that happened. But man, Pantera is much more than that. Nowadays, young people tend to put everyone in the "I like" or "I hate" boxes, and not searching for more deep analysis in their thoughts about someone. I don't like Phil anymore because of that incident. But I definitely havent stopped listening or loving Pantera because of that.
Honestly that hellyeah drum kit, thought it go for more. Very crazy, wish I had the money. I’m not a drummer, but pantera and Vin, man… that would be cool to have and show.
Namm will be back to normal next year probably. They had Winter Namm in Anaheim in June this year, which is weird. It was less than half the size it normally is. Like Comic Con, things will eventually return to normal.
Glad we got people like you who stay relevant and support Dime. I think their music is still relevant and they were ahead of their time in many ways. Good job Ola
I got to see Pantera a handful of times. I’ve seen hundred and hundreds of shows and the Pantera shows were some of my best memories in my old age. I got to see Vulgar tour and Far Beyond Driven tour and Great Southern Trendkill tour plus at OzFest in 2001. I’ve seen most of the greats including Chuck and Death but there was just a different vibe at a Pantera show.
Hi old. I'm a photographer here's a tip with the manquin. The fact that it's white and your lights a bright. Focusing on single colours make it hard for thr auto focus. Put a black cross of the manquin this creates a black white contrast auto focus is looking for...
Didn't Solar lose out on a lot of publicity by not attending NAMM? Without a lot of competition there Solar could've been one of the main centers of attention. As you stated there wasn't a lot of news coming out of NAMM, which seems like it would've been a great opportunity for Solar to grab headlines. As a business owner myself I want to take any opportunity I can to get my name and my brand out there.
OLA TJA! How does Hesu cabs compare to Mesa cabs? I’m on the market for a Mesa cab but they are impossible to get in Sweden now. Thinking of alternatives. Thanx!
You can advertise all you want to but making personal connections in this industry is huge as well. The internet can not replace these relationships, just sayin, while im always on line i was checking out all the gear at Namm all week, and did not miss the big Brands that stayed home, just sayin, Your work is absolutely Fantastic, and I will own a sustaniac solar one day, I want it in a single cut so I can lay Gibsons to waste.Lol. Thanx Ola.
I now need a "now we're snakking" t shirt. I heard you say this in one of the first videos I watched of your channel. I would gladly pay for a shirt that has that on there. 🤘
Id say Im a fairly new fan to Pantera for the past 2 years now, and I can say that even listening to many other bands before them, I've never felt the way I do when first heard them, than I have for any other new, old, modern, thrash death, etc. type of metal bands. Pantera is fucking metal, fuck the big 4, there's only 1. Trust me Ola there's still new fans learning what's up!
Dude, you’re going to slap a Sustainiac into some of your guitars??? Might I suggest a seven string hard tail V in that awesome matte green? Oh, and lefty? I know you’ll sell at least one! Seriously though, thanks for the great channel; I check it all the time...good stuff :)
