When Matt Easton comes to talk about swordplay in your game you sit down and listen. Because if there's one thing he always provides is CONTEXT.

About darn time one of these "expert react" invites an ACTUAL expert to give opinions. Matt Easton qualifies as an expert in longsword/saber fencing and historical weapon dealing (actual antiques) as much as a person can possible can. Great choice!

It feels so wrong to see Matt Easton on camera leading with anything other than "I'm Matt Easton, Scholagladiatoria". For a moment I wondered if he was okay.

Finally a proper "sword expert" not just some Hollywood sword choreographer. This is the guy you get for these videos. Nothing against choreographers but there is a time and place.

3:20 Oh, that flinch is actually a deliberate design. Apparently, players can feign or "cancel" their attacks by pressing one of the attack buttons and then moving back. Since the guards are automatic, players can trick the opposing character to guard in an opposite direction for an opening. So like in other fighting games, there are also mind games in this one. 4:50 Oh boy, those janky movements are actually bugs, and the devs are working on it. Unlike in a lot fighting games, the swords and characters are actual ragdoll physics objects in the game world, which are affected by a lot of things like gravity and intertia, so the animations get thrown off alot.

I do believe that the dev did motion cap of HEMA fighters. The game is tons of fun!

I was a bit worried they’d bring out an Olympic or stage fencer for this video (nothing against those guys though) so I was pleasantly surprised when I saw Matt goddamn Easton speaking. Just the right person to do this game justice. Nice job, IGN

I think this is the only "expert reacts" video I've seen where the expert actually had something to contribute. Usually it's just a lot of "Whoa! That was crazy!"

Seeing a big trend between the game journalist channels having experts react to games and no complaints, they're great to watch!

The "Sabre vs. Drunk" near the end of the video, he's not drunk, it's a bug in the ragdoll stabilization, if you want a drunk character, go for the 2nd character to have a long sword (forgot his name) and wearing a golden cross

This game simply sells you on the realism. Even without the expert speaking, the flow of this game is surprisingly real!

I ABSOLUTELY NEED THIS GAME!!!

Whats promising is how early on this game is. So if the devs keep working hard at it the game will really be extremely accurate, the game still probably has a bunch of bugs. But it will get better.

Take note: when you get an actual "sword expert" who knows what he's talking about and can provide CONTEXT, you can tell because he's got racks of swords behind him. Almost like it's his livelihood or something.

tbf, the patch notes and stuff do mention that the ai isn't where the dev(s) want it to be yet, and i think i also read that theyre updating how the characters play later on

I wonder in what context they had Matt Easton get such deep penetration into their game play mechanics. It is nice to see him get aroused by the concept of getting your point into two people at the same time.

Looked at the thumbnail: Is that Matt? Hovered over it and gosh golly, it is him! Definitely the man you'd want to invite for this type of critic/commentary. 10/10 would watch another one.

4:55 if you take a close look the sober guy goes in for a thrust movement for the head, but due to the guy being drunk and moving all over the place his head dodged the attack. Nice little detail.

I bet the drunkard style is gonna become the OP strat just like dragging two handed swords in chivalry
