Watch a sword expert react to The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power! How realistic are the swords and armour in Amazon's Rings of Power, and could you really use a sword as a springboard? We got sword expert Matt Easton to take a look at these Rings of Power clips.
From the flashback scene with Finrod, to the Rings of Power battle with Galadriel and the Ice Troll, Matt shares his HEMA expertise on sword combat and just how realistic this show is so far. Matt Easton is a Historical European Martial Artist (HEMA), Antique Arms Dealer, and owner of the fencing club Schola Gladiatoria.

About the torch thing: If you have ever been outside in the dark and only had some fire (torch, lighter, eternal hellfire from the abyss) you might have noticed, that putting the lightsource in front of you is not such a clever idea. It would be very much better to put the lightsource up and behind your head. If you put it infront of you, it will shine directly into your eyes, all you see is the flame. A modern torch sends the light in a focused manner, wich a simple flame cannot do.

The problem with that melee is this. The orcs were never. Ever. A major threat to the Noldor. Morgoths successes were ultimately the result of dragons, balrogs and human treachery. When Fëanor first landed, with only his followers, they were set upon by a vast host of Orcs. Despite being heavily heavily outnumbered, they slaughtered the orcs in droves. Tolkien describes it as leaves scattered by a storm.

Galadriel is so ancient that she was under the light of the original trees before the wars with Melkor/Morgoth and elves of this era were known to have faced multiple Balrogs, and hordes of orcs and gigantic wolves... Luthien, another elf, common ancestor of both Elrond and Aragorn (Aragorn descends from Elros, brother of Elrond) sang a song so powerful that she bested Morgoth for a significant amount of time and wiped the floor with Sauron. Some of the men of Numenor were so mighty that Sauron himself was scared of them. None of these characters are or need to be compared to mere mortal from our reality anyway.
@6Sparx9
@6Sparx9 Год назад
"and elves of this era were known to have faced multiple Balrogs, and hordes of orcs and gigantic wolves..." but not Galadriel, she in fact avoided conflict with Melkor and his creations through the first and second ages. "Some of the men of Numenor were so mighty that Sauron himself was scared of them." Lit confirming Numenorian's were so mighty (in strength and willpower, since they did not have magic, like Galadriel is described to have) that one of the strongest Miar of middle earth fears them. What point are you trying to make here? That fantasy characters are beyond criticism when writers overstep their established traits and limitations?

He doesn’t win but they have him fight it with brute strength which is ridiculous. Literally blocks one of its overhead swings like it was just an orc. Galadriel in the show had the better idea on taking down a troll. Outmaneuvering it and take out its weak points.
