Wet your stone, keep it wet. Never quit on your own progress, it is a daily practice and it is yours to shape with the sweat of your own brow, unaffected by the ignorance of those who have not set foot on the path of self discipline. Ramble on, it is the only way forward.

Your sharpening method seems a bit cumbersome, although it is well suited to the stone you are using. Have you tried using a honing steel or ceramic rod for this task? At a guess, the freehand method wherein the stone/ hone does the moving (whether in small circles, long strokes down the length of the bevel etc) would have traditionally been far more commonly employed than a bench method. I am not a historian or martial artist but I do swing a sword and routinely grind and sharpen blades.

@@dongkhamet1351 havent tried too many other ways been wanting too but also wanted to have more practice. I did abit of reading befor hand and the weatstone on a bench just stood out to me. But yea deffently have to get better for sure

@@matthewmaurer7290 consider trying a ceramic honing rod. That's what I use to hone my Gladius, billhooks, machetes etc. If I have to sharpen I hold the stone in my dominant hand and work it on the blade. 'Not saying that this way will get better results, just that I find it easy and intuitive.

@@dongkhamet1351 thats fair i will try that one. Heard mixed reviews on that method so doesnt hurt to try at all and see if i like it for the stone on a wheel im not sure if i would want that one untill i get more room of my own to have a full thing like that

@@matthewmaurer7290 By my lights the key to using a rod is to use it to burnish the secondary bevel into the primary bevel, convexing and straightening the edge. Just running a hard hone along your final bevel will tend to crush it. With honing as opposed to sharpening there is very little material removed, you are mostly aligning your edge down to a microscopic level. What I said about using a stone refers not to a grinding wheel but to something like a Lansky Puck sharpening stone. So for example grinding out a dinged sword tip I might rest the blade on my lap and bear down on it with the stone in my hand, making small tight circles. So instead of moving the whole sword in hand along a small stone on a bench, I am moving the small stone in my hand along the sword in my lap. This method is stable and intuitive. However it will tend to dish out the stone more. For sure there are so many methods and techniques and I am no kind of expert. Just figuring out what works for me. I may make a video regarding my ideas and observations regarding use and method of honing steels and rods.

@@dongkhamet1351 that would help me out for sure cause i have been doing the same the thing trying out new things and seeing what i like. It is a long process since there are is almost a over whelming amount of info for sharping swords and blades in general
