Watch as my wife installs her Swytch Bike kit with basic instructions from me. Anyone can do this with basic tools in very little time. This video is a little long but covers every step and should be easy to follow.
I'm a woman and I did my own swytch install, including filing the motor axle and lock washers down to 9mm to fit my quick release fork dropouts. But I've been doing a lot of my own bike mech for years - in fact my cycling club is called the Mechanix. I've had moms drag their daughters over to watch me change a tire and I'm always happy to oblige. Sheila did great! No reason that anyone that rides a bike can't learn to do the tire/wheel changes or put on a cadence sensor! You did a great job teaching, too! I bought a new tire and tube since the wheel was larger than the one I had on my road bike and the 25c tire was too narrow for the Swytch rim.
Great job Sheila, as a lady I do all the DIY around here so feel I could tackle this after watching you. You tube is amazing for teaching me stuff and then it’s only a matter of confidence and practice, no one is born knowing this. I loved the “woo hoo” as you cycled away.
This is a great video, a perfect step by step. I have the same Shimano shifter and I’m not going to get the throttle, I want assist mostly for getting up hills. Thanks Sheila for this, your experience level is about the same as mine with bikes.
My Swytch kit is scheduled to arrive next month so I'm watching a lot of install videos. Biking has been my primary transportation mode since the 90s. I do basic maintenance but I've never changed a tire, thanks for taking the time to show the details. I really liked the surprise ending when Sheila rides out of the gray garage into the beautiful green neighborhood.
@@Chris_Does_Everything The kit arrived yesterday and I've already gone on two errand rides for over ten miles. I love that I'm converting one of my existing bikes instead of buying an expensive, heavy, new Ebike. Thank you again for this installation video, I still used it along with the Swytch install instructional video. It took me four hours to install the Swytch kit on my 2012 Trek FX 7.2. It took four hours because I had to find someone with a pair of industrial scissors & file to cut & file the pedal sensor tabs off. The pedal sensor tabs were an issue with a lot of folks judging from other Swytch kit install videos. Keep on riding Chris & Sheila!
One of the best step by step videos I have seen on this kit installation. Thank you both 👍🏼. Is the direction of rotation marked on the motor or wheel ?
The motor does not have direction marked (at least ours don’t) but you know it’s mounted correctly when you have the motor cable side on the left side of the fork when viewed from sitting on the bike. Sheila’s tires are directional and marked on the tire, so we made sure the tire was mounted to rotate in the direction of the motor. In the video with the motor cable down, the motor rotates toward the camera so we aligned the directional arrow to be pointing toward the camera as well. Hope that helps and thanks for your kind words.
Thank you for the video - thinking about getting one due to the fact I am in my early 70s and live in area where there are slight inclines and I am unable to do them and don't want to purchase another bike for my style of riding. Again thank you for the video. You guys are a cute couple - bless you for a long life together!! Shelia will you put mine on if I bring it over?? LOL
It's not an ebike as advertised. "The Swytch kit is a pedal assist system which means a throttle is not required. All Swytch kits are compatible with the throttle if you wish to add this to your order." You need to buy the throttle kit to make it an actual ebike.
So why would one need a thump throttle? To over ride the pedals? To give it full power while not pedaling I guess. Would you recommend a thumb throttle?
It’s good if you ride where it’s basically flat. You don’t need it, but it’s nice to have if you want to not pedal and still ride. I’m giving one away, check out my latest video.
Is it possible to set it up so that there is no pedal assist at all, unless you use the throttle and provides the desired assistance? So essentially it'll operate like a standard bike and then if you need the extra power going up a hill, you just press on the throttle until just over the hill?. Thanks, and thanks to you both for the video of the install.
The way that its configured you’re always getting some pedal assist when it’s on. I’m going to experiment with this a little and if I can get it to work that way I’ll post another video. Thanks for watching!
