Matt from Cage The Elephant performs "Timber Me Shivers" exclusively for NME, on a rooftop at SXSW 2009. For loads more videos, check out: www.nme.com/video
Matt's voice has a completely different sound than any artist out there. It has feel, I've been obsessed with Cage The Elephant since the start, and I'm glad I'm still here listening/being a fan.
The tuning is DGCFAD, That's the standard(EADGBE) tuning only two steps down Here are the chords: Verse: D F#m Bm A Chorus: D A Bm G A Verse: D F#m Bm A Chorus: D A Bm G A Bridge G Bm G Bm A Bm A Chorus: D A Bm G A
CTE is the soundtrack to my life when I was going through a very long and rough separation and recovery and discovered he was also which made perfect sense. I love this band and remembered how I first discovered them and this song.
ah man this one hits hard.. I'm glad matt got through what parts of this song are about if not the whole thing because he helps so many people going through the same thing
OMG he performed this song when I saw them Monday night! Cage The Elephant was my first show ever! They popped my show cherry lol. Oh and Matt looks really cute with facial hair =D
these guys aren't just great music they are great Messengers, Bless them for sharing some True Soul for everyone, and blessed are all of you who hear and understand the depth of what they share. i honor the enigma involved within these simple songs and absolutely LOVE what they've been doing.
This song hits me so hard in the most emotional way. It's amazing how close to the core it gets and the way it settles you. It makes be feel so at peace. Such a powerful song.
This band is beyond perfection. I can't get enough... The moment I saw them live, I thought to myself "Now, THIS is legit." I hope they are around for a long, long time!
matt, your amazing, i Love u so much. and ur music. ur lyrics, are so amazing. when i listen to you you make me realize that there's hope for us all, because someone actually realizes what going on and what we're doing. ur music makes me so happy, it's not even comprehendible how good i think u, and the rest of cage the elephant are.
happy the audio came in so clear through all the wind. so much more toughing than when it got turned into 'right before my eyes' on the studio album. The lighter version at the end of flow is even prettier than the studio version
I like this song because Matt isn't trying to look eccentric. He has a gorgeous voice, but it gets ruined from when he's dancing / shaking. In this, he's just being natural, and that's what makes this song so...precious (?)
amazing! not many artists can sound that good in a completely acoustic environment like that today, too many of them rely on autotune and editing to cover up their mistakes but matt schultz is one of the few that sounds amazing on and off the record
It's published as "Right Before My Eyes" on their new album. But this acoustic version hangs into the end of their song "Flow". I saw him do it like this 2 days ago, amazing.
@memaymew Both versions are on the album the "Right Before My Eyes (Electric)" and the "Right Before My Eyes (Acoustic)." "Right Before My Eyes (Acoustic)," is right after Flow, it's a hidden bonus track.
My favorite thing about Matt, is that he doesnt have some inherent natural talent for singing, their bad sounds good purely through the passion of the music. He is a great singer and man do i love this band, keep it up
@TROJAN109 you can download it on itunes. you can either buy the song ''Right before my eyes'' or ''Flow'' (Timber me Shivers is a hidden track in that song)
There's a song on the second album, "Thank You, Happy Birthday," called Right Before My Eyes, and a song as the second half of Flow, the last song on that album, which is the same thing as Right Before My Eyes but acoustic, generally referred to as Shiver Me Timbers, the original name.
Damnn! last night after i fell asleep to this song, i had a dream that matt shultz was singing it.. and when i followed the sound of his voice i saw him and i was flippin out :D I was like YESS my life is now complete! ..then the guy was like "no im not matt shultz sorry" quite devastating :\ lol
@xSt0nedxwaLrusx i think the acoustic one is called timber me shivers mainly because it was so popular that it got its own name and so it can be distinguished from the normal one
@FabledHero24 wow man! I like the way u r thinking! they really have a real character as a band and this is the best for me for an audience. sorry for my english i'm greek!
Timber shakes, these trails they are derailed Phoney falls and thrill An empty ocean Lost our way with no direction Gold to knee these names we take in vain Find it harder to remain Nothing sacred Waiting on that explanation Right before my eyes Saw the whole world lose control The whole world lost control For my eyes
