You know, when you think about Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, it's hard not to be amazed by what she accomplished in the 400m hurdles at the Paris Olympics. Just a day after turning 25, Sydney stepped onto the track and did something truly extraordinary-she shattered her own world record, crossing the finish line in a mind-blowing 50.3 seconds. SHE CAN COMPETE OR NOT COMPETE ANYTIME SHE FEELS LIKE IT. I JUST FEEL PRIVILEGED ANYTIME I GET TO WATCH HER.

Worrying about the interest of fans is pure nonsense compared with how a runner in peak performance trains, heals ,rests, tapers or races. Overtraining is as real as over racing.

Thank you, Carl Lewis. Whatever McLaughlin runs, I am watching. Sydney is must watch TV.

Well if anyone ever wanted proof of the meaning of the adage "damned if you do and damned if you don't" this is it here. If Sydney thought for one minute that she was unfairly taking food from the mouth of someone else by accepting this wild-card invite, she most certainly would have refused it. She HAD already accepted that she couldn't race because she was disqualified by the rule that she had to have taken part in a Diamond League Meet this season and hadn't done so. If anyone who knows her thinks different then they DON'T know her.

She is not competing in any diamond lead meets. If you listen to the things that this young lady has to say it’s not about the money. She enjoys what she does stop coming down on her. She’s in a good space in her life right now and let her stay that way.

The thing that’s great about what she does is because she’s very selective about what races she runs you’ll never get bored of watching her because, as a fan, you’re always anticipating when’s the next time you’re going to see her race. It won’t ever get oversaturated watching her win because you’re not seeing her running every track event that’s available

Well actually, Sydney used her platform to share the love of Christ.. and the devil doesn't like that. So now here comes the interference ? . What is happening in the world now, we need Jesus!

She needs to compete the way that she does. Your body needs time to recover when you’re preparing for these major events. Plus, Bobby Kersey is not gonna overrun her as Bol's coach did her.

Sydney, you are just incredible gift to track and to the world. Truly a Greek goddess come to Earth. A great combination of brains, beauty, athleticism, common sense and wonderful woman. Please consider for the good of mankind to have a lot of babies. Your genes are precious and should be passed only. Success and health to your husband, parents, family. Thank you for all you are. Sign me, a fan!

Fans who have negative things to say about this once in a lifetime athlete need to DO WHAT THEY DO BEST!!! SIT DOWN, SHUT UP AND BE PREPARED TO WATCH WHEN THIS ATHLETE DECIDES WHEN SHE NEXT WANTS TO RUN!!! Who are you to disparage someone who has done the extreme work and sacrificed much to achieve what no one has before her!!!

Since SML has already dominated the 400m hurdles, I think she is attempting to gravitate to other events. She has done a test run in the 400m flat, and is now trying out the 100m and 200m. Of these events which she has more potential to compete successfully in, I believe she's going to stick to those races and try to dominate.

I am a track fan and have believed for years many runners have overrun just for the money. I think SML should run only when she wants, where she wants. Bruce

Honestly, it might be time for some of the other tops athletes to start following SML’s example. Bol for example had to be at a point where she could run less and focus on bettering her race.

They do all this but won’t let her document meets , or put more meets in America. Want more popularity in the spot then let athletes promote stuff and actually put eyes on the sport

The D League is lucky she didn't make them pay her a hundred thousand dollars for just showing up and a two hundred thousand bonus if she wins and breaks a meet record, and another hundred grand if she breaks a world record. She ain't an amateur. This is prro balll. So hater's beware.

I don’t think she qualifies for the Diamond League Finals because she hasn’t done any this year. It’s the rules, not her choice. Is this correct?
@billcore6295
@billcore6295 23 дня назад
I agree about resting and not pushing yourself, Gatlin is 100% correct. My biggest mistake back in my twenties was racing to much and getting pressure by my club and also my sponsor to race almost weekly at times, I never peaked properly and burned out or went flat when I needed it most. Lance Armstrong trained for one race each year, granted a three week tour but still he focused just on this event and regardless to his critics was and is still the greatest cyclist ever during a time when PEDs were dominant in thst sport

The dummest thing I have ever heard. Do you honestly think fans of a football team get tired of their team winning every week. No they don't. As a track fan I want to see the best athlete compete regularly. Not just 2 times a year. I live in Europe, and I want to see Sydney compete in a place I can attend. Not just on teelevision.

What I don't get about this whole thing is how people misunderstand the concept of the sports. Yes having her at a diamond league would do wonders for the sports and the league, but it is her choice not to compete in the league and it works for her. No issue with that. It is the issue that other athletes work hard too, even if they never get to her level does not mean they must be disregarded. Not everyone can be the elon musk, bill gates or steve jobs in their respective fields but still do a respectful job. I love Sydney, I just feel it is unfair that she takes the prize and winnings from someone who worked hard whole year, maybe that person couldn't even make it to the olympics or world champs, We all like to see her compete, but always remember she does not run by herself, all the athletes that compete in diamond league and line up to make track full and assist in the entertainment everyone so clearly wants. Before you all jus go say Sydney can do what she wants because she is the best think of the ppl that line up next to her also, and fill up the spots, this is their jobs and bread an butter that yall just wana go dish out as entertainment specials.

Syd’s career has been miss managed for a long time. This latest tiff with the Diamond League does not change anything. She has very lucrative spons deals, in particular with New Balance, that allows for her not to compete. Getting paid for not working is pretty enticing, especially if you have other priorities or don’t like what you are doing.

People don't realize that Sydney doesn't enjoy this sport. It pays her well, it's just a job to her.
@joharper284

Did she tell you that? I see Sydney on the circuit because I am official with United States Track and Field association. Sydney clearly enjoys running, but I think she’s very smart on how she picks and chooses which race this she would like to compete in along with their advice of her coach. I don’t blame her one bit run her out.

SML is bad for the sport. Hats off for her records, but she should compete in a couple of other meets. She must follow the rules if she wants to be in DL finals.

Sport depends on rivalries not records. What we value most is who crosses the line first after an intense build up of rivalries. Othewise they can just run time trials in a lab and just do it for science.
