BREAKING: DL CEO Petr Stastny just confirmed that SML isn't eligible to compete in both W200/400m @DL Final in Brussels next wk, she can run a non-DL event at the meet, but isn''t eligible for a wildcard spot in a DL Final! MJ Perec very much deserves her flowers for also pulling off that rare 200/400m double at those same '96 Olympics! @@AllInTheGame01 He obviously means that her time of 47.71s in the relay would have beaten Paulino's gold run in the 400m but that's wrong since it wasn't from a block start. You would have to add probably around half a second or maybe more. Allyson Felix for example ran a 47.70s split in 2015 in Beijing and has a PB of 49.26s. Sydney may be able to run sub 48 some day with the right training cycle and at peak form, but it is unlikely that she will pull off that time at the DL final so late in the season. If she runs a new PB of under 48.70s it would be a good achievement. Paulino as the dominant 400 m specialist and one of the best 400m women of all time is surely the favorite to win. The winning time will probably be around 48.30s. Sydney second or third behind Naser.

To everyone saying SML can only run low 48, you're not getting TRP's point in this video. It's not because she ran her 400m leg in 47.71 at the Olympics that she will run the same in Brussels. She could run even faster. Have you thought for a second that SML, who never or rarely runs in Diamond League, shows interest in 400m and also 200m after already achieving both golds at the Olympics, must be for a reason? She most likely has a plan. She must be in an extremely good shape and feel very confident she can dig deep to possibly get these records. She probably already did it during her training sessions. Meaning she could do it if she feels right on D-day. Now of course she could also completely mess up her race. Happened to the bests many times. Remember we are talking about a special athlete which keeps on evolving every time very fast and pushing back her boundaries in impressive fashion.

All what your saying is speculative…I’m excited but a sub 48 would be insane if she could pull it off, realistically low 48 is more likely as she’s not been running the 400m flat consistently like her competitors. I believe her body still has to adjust to it that’s why I doubt she can pull it off but we’re gonna have to wait and see🤞

She ran the open 400m and 200m while at Kentucky and in high school, so she's not unfamiliar with either distance. I'd stick with her running low 48's in this race and around 22.0 (maybe a bit under 22.0) in the 200m. I'll guess she's running these to 'feel them out' under top competitive conditions and will put in a more concentrated effort next year to go faster in both. Depending on the 2025 World Champs schedule she could run a double of 400mH and either the 200m or 400m.

Sure Koch and doping given DDR history is something we should take into account. However, we should also take into account that material was clearly inferior. For instance Paris track was known to be even faster than previous tracks. So Koch was running on tracks that puts her may be a second behind others just due to its inferior surface. Koch was a formidable runner.

Some runners may perform better with more races under their belt, others with less. I'm guessing Sydney and her coach, Bobby Kersee, wanted to get these last 2 races in before the season ends because 1. Sydney is in really good form, and they want to verify that. 2. See what she can do now in both the 200m and the 400m, because she will run a lot more of these 2 races in 2025, and they will find out what she will need to work on more in the off-season. 3. If Sydney would manage to show up in her Olympics peak form where sh ran the 47.71s split after all the 400mh heats, semi and final, she could indeed challende Paulino. But it's unlikely she's in that type of form atm. That's why Paulino remains the favorite.

With the drug coach Kersee's help, she could flirt with a sub 48 second time. In all fairness, when Koch was interviewed in 2015 on the thirtieth anniversary of her world record, her response was (and I'm paraphrasing), " I didn't do anything different from what other athletes were doing at the time". When the Berlin Wall was dismantled and the Stassi files were found, they proved there was a state sponsored effort to have athletes use PED's. However Koch, much like FloJo and Soviet champions at the time, never failed a drug test.

Sydney can do whatever she puts her mind to accomplish. She has that kind of focus, determination, and strength to get the job done. I have said that she needs to let the 400m hurdles go and focus on both the 400m flat and the 200m discipline like Michael Johnson did. This is the logical progression for such a once in a generation athlete that has already mastered the 400m hurdles. Time for a new challenge for Sydney.

Now that Sydney put on a 13 round ko on Femke, she will have a real challenge to dethrone Paulino, who is on her A game. However, Sydney finally took down tge Kefend, Delilah Muhammad. Sydney will need a full season to prepare. The 200 as well with Gabby and Jackson awaiting. Gotta love it.

The one thing about Sydney is that she never participates when she’s not in good shape to deliver. I predict 47.95 for her

I Hope she takes the 200’more seriously. Her 200 is special. People are just eager to see her break the 400 record but she should really hold on that. Her 200 with actual training could be sub 21 tbh

I hope she takes down that world record! Those drug mules don’t deserve to hold that record! I’m dressing in my Jamaican colours and start beating my pot cover to push her to break that record! This should be a crazy race Sydney is out for revenge 😅! 47.54!

21.90 and 48.50. It will be a good clash with Paulino in the 4 and Thomas in the 2!
