You know, when you think about Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, it's hard not to be amazed by what she accomplished in the 400m hurdles at the Paris Olympics. Just a day after turning 25, Sydney stepped onto the track and did something truly extraordinary-she shattered her own world record, crossing the finish line in a mind-blowing 50.3 seconds. I mean, breaking your own world record? That’s not something you see every day, right? #sydneymclaughlin #trackandfield

I support Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone competing in the Diamond League competitions. She is definitely deserving of inclusion. God bless her! ❤

I read the World Athletics Championships are considering raising the height of the hurdles to make things a bit more challenging for Sydney. Factor in Femke Bol is about 2 inches taller and you have to wonder what their true motives are.

Have the hurdles always been the height they are now? If so, I can't imagine they would do that

Lol that wouldn't be very bright of them because it would mean that athletes of lesser skill would suffer EVEN MORE.

Es un amor ♥by away ..A gold medal at the Olympics, or the world championship and a world record, should be (sufficient) a green card to participate in any professional competition.

Diamond league Pres. only changed their minds because Sydney says she would not accept the invite. Sydney should just rest up!

As a former hurdler this is ridiculous. For example how about making only 6 foot 3” women be able to clear them????

OK, how much longer do Sydney and Paulino plan on avoiding each other at 400?
@bro-kush
@bro-kush 7 дней назад
Nobody is "avoiding" anyone. Sydney runs hurdles and Paulino runs the flat. Maybe Femke should run the 400m flat to bring some spice to that event 🤔
@rafaeltenorio4718
@rafaeltenorio4718 7 дней назад
@@bro-kush OK, maybe I did not use the right language. I think Sydney could easily run the 400 flat and have a great rivalry with Paulino. She just chooses not to at this point. Also, Sydney has pretty much "cleaned out" the 400 hurdles. Her only challenge left in this event is to continue breaking her own WR. Just my $0.02.

@@rafaeltenorio4718 I may have taken your comment wrong so I apologize. I see that narrative pushed way too much regarding Sydney and there seems to be an agenda behind it. Namely, to clear the way for Femke Bol to rule and get all the praise and accolades - because right now, her accolades pale in comparison to Sydney's, but her media praise does not. Here is my thing: up until recently Sydney was not rival to Paulino. That was all media hype attempting to push Sydney away from the hurdles. Right now it would be a rivalry, but before this year, Paulino would have beaten Sydney every time just as she did before. And that brings me to my next issue: why is it that everyone wants Sydney to switch events and not Femke? According to media, Femke is "dominant" in the hurdles; untouchable with the exception of Sydney. In fact, Sydney has never been ranked #1 in the 400m hurdles despite dominating since 2019, and holding both World and Olympic records. On the other hand, Femke was ranked #1 just prior to the Olympics, and had been all through 2023 and 2024. So if Femke is so dominant (a sentiment I don't share) then shouldn't she try her hand in the 400m flat also because there is no one there that can beat her other than Sydney (again, I don't agree with that and given the fact that Femke finished 3rd in two consecutive Olympics, I would argue that there are women that can beat her other than Sydney - but that's not what the media is pushing)? I'm not opposed to the idea of Sydney switching events, I'm opposing the reasons why "some" people want her to switch events.🤷🏾‍♂🤷🏾‍♂

@@bro-kush I see where you are coming from. But to address your point, no, I was not thinking of Bol at all. I was certain that Sydney was going to thoroughly outclass her in the Olympics. I also think that Cockrell is probably going to catch up with Femke soon. On the other hand, I am pretty convinced that Sydney is now at a similar level as Paulino in the 400 flat, and I am hungry for a good rivalry between these two. This is me purely as a fan but I think Sydney should take on Paulino sooner rather than later.

Re the comments below, I'm pleased to learn that WA is looking at changing hurdle heights for women. In terms of relative average heights, the hurdles are far less of a barrier for women than they are for men. When the hurdle heights were set many, many, years ago, the average height for women was lower than it is these days. Although men on average were also not as tall, the percentage differences means that men's hurdle heights remains a significant barrier in both 110h and 400h events, whereas in the women's events far less so. Ironically, whereas an average male hurdlers are over 6ft, there is more of a variance in the height of women sprint hurdlers and it seems to have disproportionately favoured shorter women with great flat speed, especially in the 100m hurdles since, in my view, you don't have to have such great technique to clear the relatively low women's hurdle as the men do to clear theirs which, in relative terms, is much higher.

Your argument is good but I'm still suspicious. Why would the success of Sydney suddenly bring about this change?
@johnf991

@@bro-kush It is unconnected. If you do a Google search, there's a paper on it from a few years ago, ie pre Sydney.

@@johnf991 this was written yesterday in the Independent. It was quoting the World Athletics president. Now, when did that conversation actually take place? I don't know and the Independent wasn't clear. But since Sydney was mentioned by name I have to assume it's all recent.

@@bro-kush Women's 100m hurdles in the. Diamond League right now - look at where the hurdle height is in relation to their bodies.
@bro-kush
@bro-kush 7 дней назад
@@johnf991 they are low. 30" for women 400m, but since it's 36" for men 400m I think it should stay where it is. I believe the 100m and 110m hurdles are higher for both men and women, but the 400m hurdles are lower because of the distance. Once fatigue kicks in those 30" hurdles may seem like they are 5 feet high. But I'm not sure what we are talking about right now 🤔. The question I had was why change them because of the success of Sydney? And from what I can see both Sydney and Femke were mentioned during those discussions but who does higher hurdles really benefit??? The taller woman, of course 🤷🏾‍♂. I find this very suspicious.

She is the Olympic champion, world record holder and a huge draw. Maybe you should go work for the WNBA. It would be stupid not to include her if she is interested.
