I've lived in Sydney my whole life and I've used the olympic venues so many times. I've run in them, biked in them, swam in them, sailed in them, gone to concerts, sporting events, tournaments, and triathlons. I've been there for conventions and I've been there for high ropes courses. The Sydney Olympic facilities were very well designed.

@@flynncollins6930 Rubbish. The scenes depicted in the video could have been filmed back in 2019, or today in 2023. Olympic Park is as vacant, forlorn and directionless as it has ever been since the conclusion of the 2000 Olympics all those years ago. If you are thinking that the Olympic precinct is a perpetual hive of activity on any given day, then you are truly kidding yourself. This strange belief is proof that you do not visit the precinct that often at all, much less know and understand the rhythm of the venue at all.

This video is totally inaccurate, these shots were made during covid where Sydney was in complete lockdown where the only reason to leave your house was to get shopping or go to work. I’ve never seen Sydney Olympic park so empty, every time I go you literally have to push past people, and get pushed on trains like wtf is he on about. Whenever I go to Sydney Olympic park(about 10-15 times a year) I get this overwhelmed feeling of nostalgia and history that happened in my city, it makes me happy, I remember Cathy running that race in a suit that everyone thought was a joke and she won, I remember thorny win his race and dad saying that kid is only 17. There are multiple sporting events a week which I know bring in over 30,000 ppl a week plus concerts which is more and events

Sydney is actually one of the few Olympics of recent times where it hasn't led to a glut of abandoned venues and infrastructure in the years after. Admittedly not all, but most of the 2000 Olympic venues in Sydney and those used around Australia are still in regular use today.

Well not entirely with London, one of their stadiums and surrounds have been pretty poor.
@gabetalks9275
@gabetalks9275 Год назад
Saying that Sydney is one of the few Olympic success stories is misleading. Disastrous Olympic hosts are only a recent phenomenon due to Games growing in size and becoming so much more extravagant over the years. Overall, most Olympic host cities have historically been successful. Even all the way back to 1976, Innsbruck, Barcelona, Atlanta, Lake Placid, LA, Lillehammer, Albertville, Salt Lake, London, and Vancouver were all tremendously successful.
@pwhnckexstflajizdryvombqug9042
@@gabetalks9275 Even the whole idea of people saying most olympics are a failure is misleading. The Olympics only happens every 4 years and there have only been 10 summer olympics going back to 1984. That means at most the number of recent olympic "failures" can only be counted on one hand and you be quick to have people point out the ones that weren't failures which is like, most of them. People do a really good job of just saying "look at how good the London olympics were compared to the rest" or something but neglect to actually expand on what they are saying and instead resort to just generalising. Generalising is necessary when you have a lot of information but there have ONLY been 10 olympics in the last 36 years there is really no excuse for generalising that. Why can't people just say which ones they think were failures and list them by name rather than making in-specific hand-wavy statements like "most olympics"

This such an inaccurate depiction of Sydney Olympic Park. The pictures you are seeing there are in the middle of a lockdown. If we didn’t have these venues people would complain that we don’t have world class venues. Sydney wouldn’t have the large scale concerts or exhibitions on it’s doorstop. I think it has served its purpose and has provided Sydney with places that never existed before the olympics. This is a truly inaccurate piece of work!

@@JayJayGamerOfficial The entire Olympic precinct is not economically viable. Indeed, the NSW Auditor-General publicly reported in 2000 that the Sydney Olympics had a net cost to the public between $1.7 billion and $2.4 billion, with this figure naturally including the 1990s Olympic Park construction cost. As these large venues from the turn of the new millennium are now the better part of 30 years old, hard decisions will eventually have to be made to overhaul, rebuild or simply permanently demolish these structures. Indeed, back in 2017, the former Gladys Berejiklian NSW Government decided that the preeminent Stadium Australia was to be demolished, with a smaller stadium replacing it, as the massive Olympic venue is not economically viable. But, this plan was scrapped due to the pandemic. The fact that Olympic Park hosts the NRL Grand Final, the Royal Easter Show, Taylor Swift concerts and other events throughout the year does not make the precinct objectively economically viable. Barcelona, Atlanta (in part), Sydney, Athens, Beijing, London, Rio de Janeiro, and others before... In all of them, the Olympic parks are abandoned or underutilized. However, the proposal for all was trendy areas, full of urban life and a lot of profits to the host cities after the games. I am from São Paulo city in Brazil. Rio 2016 Olympic park is underutilized and its maintenance is very expensive, probably, in a few decades, it will be demolished in whole or in part and the end result is a lot of money needlessly spent for just thirty days of glory. I visited Barcelona in 2016 and I watched a lot of news about the Olympic parks around the world, and the problem is the same, huge open spaces, with big stadiums but with no one around. The IOC-International Olympic Committee must stop demanding megalomaniacal constructions that will be little used with the end of the games. I don't believe in Olympic Parks, the host cities should use their existing equipment and, at most, reform it. Inevitable new buildings should be spread around the city in run-down areas that would be requalified and connected with the mass transportation system. I think Melbourne is a kind of positive example of that. The sports buildings are spread out for all the city, there's no monotony there. If Melbourne hosts the 2024 Olympic Games, replacing Paris, everything is ready! Without major impacts and costs for the city and its citizens, in the sense that the city would become a huge construction site, and when the games were over, everything would return to normal life without losses, only gains.

This is simply a layman’s perception, nothing more. Have you _ever_ heard a past or present NSW Premier or Planning Minister claim that the precinct has been economically viable? Of course not, as this is an absurd claim which has no factual basis whatsoever.
