Hi Phil, thanks for sharing another excellent video. Years ago, when living up in Sydney, I took several day train trips to Lithgow, though I must admit, I was never able to take the trip in a double deck train. Back in my day, they had two well known trains serving the Blue Mountains and Lithgow nicknamed the Fish and the Chips. Both were single deck trains. I found Lithgow to always be an interesting place to visit. Anyway, take care. Rob in Melbourne Australia.
It sounds like it was a nice trip, Phil, with the exception of those idiots on the way back, who would have put a damper on what was a lovely day for you.
Hi Phil, I was actually there at the same time you were there at Central as I just finished a Microsoft Teams meeting with Sydney Trains and was just as surprised as you were that a NIF was at Central! I should’ve gone up to say hi, but oh well! Great video as always!
I used to love catching that train every year to Penrith for DEFQON.1 then Gladys Binchicken shut it down. I haven't been on a train since but seeing this has brought back so many happy memories of working at the best rave in the world.
i love the section from mt victoria to lithgow. a lot of passengers leave at katoomba and miss this majestic setting through the national park and the tunnels.
Hi Phil, this was a great journey especially for me as I lived in the Blue Mountains for 8 years. Fun Fact 1: The "V" in Vset is to signify that these sets were equipped with vacuum toilets, hence V for vacuum. The previous sets had "drop" toilets which dropped directly onto the tracks. Fun fact 2: Wentworth Falls Lake is a man made Lake which was built to gravity feed the water to Valley Heights rail yard and roundhouse for the purpose of watering the steam engines. Great video Phil.
I remember as a kid I'd catch the train to and from the Mountains fairly regularly made it a game to memorise all the suburban stations from Central to Emu Plains. Some people would call that pretty weird. But my knowledge of the Sydney train network has come in handy over the years. the only lines I don't know back to front are the Airport line (what used to be called the Eastern Hills Line) and the Bankstown line after Bankstown.
cant wait to be back in sydney next month for a week in september looking forward to getting on borad the montions train to lithgow and back for a ride to and from the city i thort some of the network was shutdown because of the 12 mouths track work that is happaing at the moment
If it takes 2 hours 51 minutes from central to Lithgow on a v set how much quicker will a d set take? Also wish there were shuttle service’s between Lithgow and bathurst and really want wallerawang station to reopen. Make access so much better there
Shuttle service between Lithgow and Bathrust is possible. However no point as its a 2 hourly service from lithgow to the city. If it becomes an Hourly service when the NIF rolls out we may hopefully see a shuttle service.
@@lindsaydonovan6241 The NERF, What a can of worms. The "off the shelf" design they picked was way off, Needs several hundred design changes (thankfully they actually asked the train crew) Also is going to have a proper guard again apparently. Easier to run from Orange then Dubbo with the current crew arrangement.
Back in the day, there were car builders stationed in Sydney Yard that would of replaced that missing window. I can't believe they let it go back out !
@@steveamurray59 Probably kicked out in service. If train crew were aware or notified of a kicked-out window by passengers (Goes to the issue of the public now not caring and happy to sit in a carrige with a kicked out window or even human waste on the seat next to them). The guard would lock the car off. Lithgow & Mt Victoria have the ability to install temporary blanking plates on kicked out windows to allow the carriage to go out into service.
