@@syliefel Surprisingly, that's a real thing. It is kind of funny looking, but real knights wore those garments over their armor as well. They're commonly used to display heraldry and symbols...plus I imagine it helps keep the power armor clean too, lol. EDIT: I am not the first to point this out, apologies. XD
@@syliefel The Dark Angels dont wear Toga's, the Ultramarines wear Toga's, the Dark Angels robes and Hoods are just a tradition from their homeworld, and Historically, Knights did the same, usually to display heraldry.
Fun fact about Night Lords, they're as horrible as they are funny. There's a scene in one book where a Night Lord succumbs to the influence of Khorne and start getting on killing sprees on the ship's crew. One day, he goes too far, and his Captain calls him and says: *_"That's it. You are now officially marked as a Sinner. Paint your gauntlets red and meet me on deck in ten minutes."_* The Night Lord in question starts feeling intense shame for his actions and for being too weak to resist the corruptions of Chaos. And now that he's branded as a Sinner, he's essentially a dead man walking waiting to be put down and/or sacrificed in battle. And then he looks around and wonders out loud: _"Where the fuck am I going to find red paint?"_
Another good one is when a small squad, 3 of them, Talos, Xarl and Uzas were boarding an imperial ship, seeking to find directions so they could escape it blowing up, xarl grabs a fleeing crewman and loudly asks where the gunnery deck is, so loud it blew out the guys eardrums and frightened him so much that he pulled his bolter and shot xarl in the face, which bounced back into his own face and killed him. This got the very pissed off xarl laughed at
@@LegiamasC-OnTwitta Or we have this gem from _Soul Hunter_ here: _Of course, this new plan to awaken Malcharion had to be put down with tact._ _With nuance._ _With_ subtlety. _Vraal's claws slid from the sheaths on his gauntlets. They sparked and crackled, wreathed in killing lightning._ _"Brothers!" he called joyously into the vox._ _"Everyone in this room is going to die!"_
Thanks for reminding me about that whole thing, im not good with names but i remember that this Night Lord got blamed for something he didnt do (kill some child), and ended up punished for wanting to take revenge...
@@vavra222 Yeah, bit of a long story but Uzas used to go on rampages when Khorne’s influence took over. Occasionally running amok on the lower decks and killing anything that he could find. At one time a daughter was born to one family on the lower decks of their ship, a rarity as almost all of them had been sterilised by warp exposure. She died in a boarding action from the Blood Angels when Talos had promised her protection using an old Legion medallion as a marker. Some time later her grieving father began stirring up dissent until Talos, with unusual restraint for a Night Lord, confronted him, told him that he had personally avenged his daughter’s death and desecrated the corpse of her killer, and told him in no uncertain terms to knock it off or he would come for him. Some time later he was found dead and Uzas was blamed for it, leading Talos to mark his gauntlets red in accordance to an old Nostraman custom. It turns out that Cyrion, one of the more jovial Night Lords and one who had stood by Talos since the start who was…somewhat addicted with a psychic emotional vampirism for fear had been behind several killing sprees below decks as well to sate this addiction and had let Uzas take the blame for it. Following a severe head injury after clashing with the Eldar Pheonix Lord Jain-Zar, Uzas finally began to remember clearly and confronted Cyrion shortly before First Claw made their last stand, intending on making Cyrion own up to what he had done and clear his own name, only for Cyrion to attempt to kill him to keep it quiet. Uzas survived the initial attempt but his precarious grasp on sanity snapped at the attempt and he tried to kill Cyrion, forcing Talos to kill him none the wiser, thinking that Uzas had finally crossed the line.
A bit more context for the Iron Warriors and Fists rivalry: In short, both Perturabo and Dorn were superb engineers and builders. Like, superhumanly good. But when the Emperor began the conquest of galaxy, the Imperial Fists were put to conquest and fortification, while Iron Warriors were given the most grueling and tough sieges or horribly understaffed garrison duty. Perturabo himself wanted above all else to be an architect and, though he was never very social person, this fed his bitterness, especially since Fists were lauded and his marines got no recognition. Pretty much the final straw was the Imperial Palace. Dorn and Perurabo both wanted to be the one to build it. Emperor picked Dorn and Perturabo took it badly. During the Heresy they were *very viciously* storming the Fist-manned positions. Also, Alpha Legion. My personal headcanon is that half of them are loyal and half of them are traitors, but half of the loyalists are deep-cover traitors and half of the traitors are deep-cover loyalists. And no one knows anymore who is who.
I just can't stop laughing over the fact his name was "Perturabo" because I guess you could say he was.... perturbed... in the end! I'll show myself out.
@@syliefel Basically to put it in the terms of a Family Drama Tv show. Emperor *asked* Dorn to help him bake cookies for the bake sale. Perturabo was *told* to go unclog the toilet because Leman Russ clogged it **again** after eating nothing but booze and meat for three days straight.
Unfortunately, Magnus did everything wrong. Unintentionally. “The road to hell is paved with good intentions” is the best description for Magnus and his story.

Seelie, you need not worry about spoilers; because you're gonna be confused either way. Ragardless, Bricky's 40k faction video is split into two parts. The first part is all about the Imperium and a majority of their major factions. The second part covers the Chaos Daemon and Astartes, as well as the major Xenos factions.
No problem. In addition, Bricky tells you really cool stuff that your friend may not have gone over, like just how insanely badass the Sisters of Battle are, as well as quotes that also give you this feeling of; "Holy shit, this is hardcore".
the Alpha Legion are so confusing and secretive, that even Tzeentch is so totally confused, that at some point he believes that he himself could be Alpharius XD
The grim darkness of the far future has claimed another soul for the Warp. Also anytime you wonder why someone is wearing something over thier armor, just automatically assume it's always just for drip factor.
TBF I think the images he used were probably some of the worse ones. I think some of the tattered cloth looks and such are great, just not the ... white robes over armor snippets that flashed by at that part. Haha
The Salamanders prevail. VULKAN LIVES. STOMP. STOMP. I am really happy that the flamy boys get the appreciation they deserve. And they are craftsmen too which is another plus for me
I have recently broken out the gigantic pile of Firstborn marines I’ve had in storage and am burning through a shocking amount of Vallejo greens turning them into Sallies. I eagerly await Vulkan getting ported to 40k. We have Bobby G, Lionel is inbound, and Vulkan is a damn perpetual… Also, why no new Vulkan He’stan, GW? Resin sucks :(
Did Magnus do anything wrong? Without spoiling what he actually did, I want you to consider this situation. Lets say that you see someone is about to break into your neighbors house, and you go out of your way to warn your neighbors. You do this by, after seeing that your neighbors doors are locked, kick the door down to go inside and say "scary people are gonna break in!". In that hypothetical situation, did you do anything wrong?
Plus even his own son aka the one who make all of them well some of them not affected into dust and still everyone think Magnus the red is the one who responsible
Angron is one of the most heartbreaking Primarchs of them all. Because before he got the Nails, he was this wide-eyed cinnamon bun. Imagine your pure-hearted White Mage from a JRPG. That was Angron before they lobotomized him.
Everything about the Alpha Legion could be summed up in this: "Are you the good guy or the bad guy?" Alpha Legion Space Marine: "Yes. You as well, Brother." "Hydra Dominatus, Brother."
5:45 Warhammer 40,000 is heavily inspired by our true human history. Why cloaks over armor? Look up European knights during the crusades in the mid-ages. A lot of knight monk orders wore cloaks/robes over their armor. And because it looks cool. And in Warhammer, the rule of cool reigns supreme.
As I've said in other comments, I'm aware of middle age styles but I wasn't talking about the cloaks so much as the robes and wrap-styled garbs which looked super plain. I've seen other artwork and figures that do it far better than the examples given. Just the ones that caught my eye made me laugh and were really silly, but a lot of 80's fashion choices are silly to me so far that I'm finding! XD
@@syliefel I believe the reason the robes that the Dark Angels wear are so plain as you put it is that they treat such garb as more a vocation as opposed to a fashion statement. Sort of like a warrior monk feel.

For the record, Bricky jokes about the Dark Angels not actually being loyalist but that's really just a meme. Dark Angels are pretty damn loyal, they just suck at acting loyal, because they'd rather seek atonement for something nobody knows or cares about over actually helping the Imperium with issues that matter. Their biggest fear is that the Imperium will find out some of their marines turned traitor thousands of years ago and it makes them ultra paranoid. Also, my favorite legion is the Ultra Marines, gotta love the legion who is actually focused on getting stuff done and being damn good at their jobs
Night Lords being Bricky's favorite isn't particularly concerning. Short version of why they're likable is that they have some REALLY good stories written about them that give them enjoyable characters who are terrible people yes, but are actually somewhat sympathetic in their own way. Turns out growing up on probably the most depressing planet in the Imperium means they've all got issues and some tear jerker backstories.
10:25 Trust me Seelie, you do NOT want to get with Slaanesh! It's less of a fun sexy time with hot demons and more like a mix of the BME Pain Olympics and Hellraiser with demons who have teeth in *all* the wrong places.
A lot of these legions were amazing, I have way too many to choose but my personal favorite got to be Ultramarine, the second I heard that they were proficient in logistics, I loved them. Finally a legion that know that having a well supplied army is the most important, tactics are good but having supplies. Also the blue color really looks good
Actually his first part of "every factions explained" is only the imperium so humans which you already learned about so if you want you can go see it :)
the basic idea behind "magnus did nothing wrong" is that Magnus did many things wrong, but most of what he did wrong was done because some people and entities were fucking with him. to name a few: Leman russ and him had a bitter rivalry. still probably do. causing Magnus to go a step too far each time, making a slip every time. Magnus knew of the making of the heresy, and wanted to warn the Emperor, tricked by Tzeentch, he, basically, opened a rift to the warp, flooding the universe with chaos spawns. Magnus tried to stave off the mutations warp powers gave to the thousand sons. made a pact with Tzeentch, once again. but didn't work. now they are almost all dead. Desperate, his second in command tried again to stave off the mutations himself. ended up using a ritual that thanos snapped a good chunk of their legion, making them basically dust piloting armors at the whim of a puppeteer. 1/10 would not recommend also, the empire, accompanied by Leman who wanted to piss on Magnus' ancestry once more, burned Prospero almost to the ground sealing Magnus' fate into asking Tzeetch for salvation, Tzeentch did save him and the rest of his legion. but not without basically eating their souls and making them his slaves. basically, Magnus did really horrible things causing the downfall of his legion, and contributing to the downfall of humanity. but he had pure intentions. so if he wasn't treated as the black sheep because he leads psykers, and if him and his legion had the proper help for their mutations and powers, they probably wouldn't be like that now.

For context regarding Legions 2 and 11. In actuality they were intended to be the "Make your own Space Marine Legion" factions. One for Loyalists and one for Chaos. But eventually the company Games Workshop decided against it. So now canonically both Legions have committed crimes so severe, so unspeakable that they have been completely erased from Imperial history and even from the memories of other Primarchs. They're aware they existed and were their brothers but the reason they were erased from history have been removed from their minds. At one point Rogal Dorn of the Imperial Fists dragged the giant stick hanging out his butt over to Terra to confront the Emperor's right hand man Malcador about why and Malcador said "It was you who asked for it." and when Dorn argued against it he was given the memories back and was "Yeah, that was the right call. Take them away again please."
the knight templars wearing clothes over their armor is actually something real life knight did at times, during the crusades knights would often wear clothes over there armor so that the sun would not make contact with the armor and making it to hot and cock the pearson in side of it, in warhammer they most likely just wear the clothes over their armor to look cool and linking space marines to old knights, unless the clothes dos somtihg in lore that i am missing.
My sons are still loyal,is the chapter Master fault they wanted to keep in secret everything! Goddam it,the dark angels my sons are loyal why? Because for us serving the imperium is his own reward Pd:we wear tunics like the old knights from our planet and because we look stupidly great!
We are the Imperial Fists, the sentinels of Terra, the last Line of defense against the darkness ! Glory to the Imperium ! For Dorn ! For the the Emperor !
Lol im a newbie so they understood why I thought that from the images alone since the pictures just were white cloth over armor but they also make fun of Dark Angel fans too (even the people who are DA fans! They taught me about security blankets being a 40k joke) since we just tease everyone XD
Magnus did everything wrong, the best part in the Horus Heresy where these legions fought…if Magnus literally would’ve done nothing or at most take a ship to Earth since his planet is very close to Earth the Horus Heresy would’ve been a massive failure for the traitors..
Tbf with Dark Angels, cloth over armour is a common thing in history. What started as protection from heat of Middle East (during crusades), as sun would cook people wearing armour continued as representation of each lord and etc.
Recreational Historian & Former 40k Nerd reporting in to answer the question about "wearing clothes over their armor?" The shortest version: IRL knights did it, so space marines do it, because they're space-knights. The longer version: IRL Knights did it for multiple reasons. It could help with temperature regulation, it could keep grit and grime from getting in/under it, and very frequently they would paint their crests and colors on them, so they would know who was on their side amid battle. Space-marines do this because IRL Knights did it, and also some chapters do the crests/colors thing with it too, like irl knights/military ppl from the medieval times.
So Magnus found out about the Horus betrayal. The problem is he was all the way over on the other side of the universe. So what to do? He basically blasted a psychic warning to the emperor which destroyed a lot of the safeguards he had in place against the warp. The Emperor saw this as a betrayal and didn't believe what he said about Horus. So now he told everyone to go after Magnus, who had to escape. His only chance for survival was the protection of the chaos gods. If we want to use metaphors then it would be like finding out someone intended to attack you, but the only way to warn you from across town was to send a rocket into your front door.
When the setting starts to wear you down with the never ending "sad endings" just look up Tuska Demon killa and you'll be smiling from each to ear at seeing the little fella living his best life 😂
Fun fact, the splitting into chapters was to prevent another Horus Heresy to happen. The Badb War happened, and was a repeat of the Horus Heresy, except Successor chapters only.
Next, you must look at all the xenos of 40k. That is where you decide whether you complete your journey or to continue down its perilous depths. Shall you delve into the Black Library spanning thousands of legit published books that span all throughout the timeline of 40k? Or perhaps you might take up a model or two and paint them to your heart's desire in physical proof your creative spirit! Or will you go even further beyond and take up the dice of war for the table top game that Games Workshop built all this lore for and uses a quarter of the funds generated by the game to keep this creative machine going?
I'm new to the channel and a little late to the party, but the ring around the Iron hands planet is there to be a space dock/ shipyard for them. Also, they got onto their "flesh is weak" thing because they saw (in the Horus Heresy) their Primarch get killed from being too angry. So they tried to be more in control of themselves by replace limbs and adding emotional blockers, even though Ferrus believed in human strength. They are depressed really, but still dicks. But I like them.
I mean knights and other soldiers wore their army colors in cloth or tabards over their armor and/or chainmail so it's not totally out of the ordinary for the Dark Angles who are based on knights to do the same lol
Oh yah and a lot of comments have compared it to those time periods which I understand and familiar with! I was teasing mostly because the art used had a lot of robe-styled wraps and just plain white rags that looked kinda silly in comparison! I've seen other artworks and figure designs that look way better! And CLOAKS are cool, so they always get a thumb up from me!
Fun fact about the Space Wolves not enough people talk about. They have freeze rays. Them and, last I checked, no one else in the entire game. And ALL space marines are designed to cannibalize their enemies for knowledge. As for the Night Lords, that chucking of bodies down to the people who said bodies died to protect? That was BEFORE they fell and turned traitor. They've gotten WORSE. Legions 2 and 11 are unknowns, as are their primarchs, but all signs point to them being removed, unpersoned, and scrubbed from the history books BEFORE the Heresy. Before 9* of their brothers went traitor, these 2 were found, and then disappeared. As did their legions. Magnus did many things wrong, but he was desperately trying to do right by his people, his sons, his brothers, his father, and the imperium. Unfortunately for him, he is a written character with a sealed fate, and his flaw is being high INT, low WIS. So, funny story. While the Emperor did his damnedest to kill the very concepts of religion and superstition, not only does the modern Imperium revere his corpse as a god, but Lorgar's holy book of worshipping the Emperor because the Imperium's first draft of their 1st edition BIBLE. How's this for a slice of irony? Oh, and Guiliman DESPISES this fact. Heck, if it wouldn't cause a civil war to rival the Heresy, he'd probably unwind by shelling the main cathedrals on Terra. So... even more than the Dark Angels being called loyalist despite having 49.99_ percent turned traitor, the question of who the Alpha legion sides with is a thing. A thing I don't go for, since once you force them to choose, suddenly there is a lot of explanation needed and a lot of mystique lost. The "delivered a plague unto our houses!" is, if anything, an understatement. One time they left algae spores on troops returning home from fighting the Alpha legion. In weeks the bioweapon had spread and wiped out so many food crops that billions across the sector died from the famine.

Before the battle of fists and steel is the battle of the mind, and the 2nd half of the battle of the mind, is looking like you'll kill your enemy, to your enemy.
When people say Magnus did nothing wrong that's incorrect. Regardless of his good intentions he was insubordinate and ignored his father The Emperor's direct orders. He crippled humanities chance at a chaos free/light future. Then instead of accepting his punishment with humility which would've let him off easy he fled. He fell to his sense of pride because he thought he knew better. His actions directly led to the downfall of his legion with the Rubric of Ahriman. The phrase "the road to hell is paved with good intentions" is a great phrase when discussion Magnus.
That cloth over the armor is called a tabard. When the crusaders went from the fresh, cool forests of Europe to the blazing heat surrounding Jerusalem, a LOT of them died of heat. Think about it, you're wearing a shiny metallic suit under the sun, in a desert... yeah you're gonna die of heatstroke. The tabard helps keep the sun off the armor, thus it helps the knight inside the armor to... you know... not die. That's kind of important. Why do the Dark Angels wear tabards? Because GW looked at templaars, knights, crusaders and hospitalers and went "man all those badass knights wear that thing, let's do that too." Truly, a great example of copying things without knowing why.
17:07 Bricky is slightly wrong: every Space Marine can eat the brain tissue of a fallen enemy to gain their memories. Space Wolves are just also werewolves, which is why there are so many extra fucking wolves lying around
"Trying too hard but also not trying hard enough" is a good description. 40k kind of takes itself entirely seriously but also recognizes that it's deeply silly at the same time. You'll have scary nightmare weapons that fire shells made from fragments of exterminated planets but they are mounted on giant mechs with churches for heads.
The dark angel cloaks are like marking of their knightly orders the marines were part of before the were marines. That and it's cool, the sarcophagi are part of the blood angels transformation process into marines. A lot of blood angels find comfort in them and rest in them which helps stave off the rages
