Please don't take this the wrong way, because I think that Nick and Amanda are amazing, but is NIck playing around with sounds that come prebuilt into what he's playing or does he program the sounds and use it as a trigger? I'm genuinely curious.
I think it's a live mix, it sounds different to the record. He does a lot of fading and cross blending. But at the same time he definitely has presets for rhythms set up.
Nick's a master at using Ableton Live. He's got prebuilt samples and a song structure in the software, but is tweaking the sound/expression of many of these throughout each performance. He also uses sampling of Amanda's live vocal in some performances (not apparent in this one).
