Here is a clip from the British Broad Cast called. "Queens Of Disco" which highlights a few of the Disco Queens careers from the 70's, I don't really know why Madonna made into to that show as she wasn't Disco. Never the less I took this video clip from that show because I know that there a few people out there who really like Sylvester.

The worth and dignity of a soul is measured by what it delights in! And delight/happiness is our highest desire. Men have killed to have it. Kings have gone mad trying to find it. Wars have served it. Affairs have worshiped it. We all seek it. Sadly, billions have died without discovering its secret... namely, that joy is not an it, but a He. The Gospel is the good news that sinners can delight in a Holy God. It's the good news that all of our deepest desires are satisfied in the ONE who sent His Son to bring us to Him. God is so valuable and so satisfying that the most loving thing he could do for us is to make Himself gloriously indispensable. He is the only being in the universe for whom self-exaltation is the highest virtue. Therefore, God's commitment to be glorified and our goal to be satisfied are not at odds but come to simultaneous consumation in the worship of His Son... who took upon Himself the Wrath that God had towards us in our sinful disregard of Him. A wrath that could never be appeased through man-made religion. Jesus didn't die to turn the world into a paradise, he died so that we could stop seeking paradise in the world... Temporal things such as beauty, popularity, money, sex, racial identity, gender reassignment... can never truly satisfy. BECAUSE WE WERE MADE FOR SO MUCH MORE! We were made to gaze intently into the Eternal Beauty of a majestic King, Father, and God... meet Jesus the Christ. Life is hard, God is good, Glory is coming God Bless!

The error in this statement is that you SHOULD care about who and what he was. Although, I understand what you mean to say, the problem with humanity is that by saying you’re colorblind or a person’s sexuality doesn’t matter to you is that you, inadvertently, undervalue the wholeness of who that person is. You show you care by SEEING them, by considering all the things you profess not to want to see. It’s a paradox that we’re not especially aware of.

Sweet man! I had the pleasure of meeting Sylvester at The Marlin Beach Hotel in Fort Lauderdale somewhere around 1984 when I was young and new to the scene. I was captivated by his openness and his presence. He was very feminine and extroverted with such grace and flair I instantly liked him! After he passed away, as many others did from AIDS, I became a much bigger fan and learned more about this disco legend who had so much talent and charisma to share with the world! We are lucky to have had him even if it wasn't long enough! Much love to you Sylvester and thank you for your killer dance songs that are still poppin' in the clubs!

@@marilynwillett804 Hell is not until judgement day and the saints will be judged first, so lets not be so quick to decide beforehand who is going where... The bible says search out your own soul salvation with fear and trembling and the fact that the preacher of the church who repeatedly raped him as a child went on to live without consequence sickens me, but even though Sylvester was rejected for his flamboyance and feminine ways which were obviously a side effect of the terrible sexual and physical trauma he suffered he became something amazing in spite of it all.... Even after being forced out of the church and his home town. No one ever confronted the predator who they knew stole his innocence and allowed this evil individual to remain in the church....SMH we could all see how a loving God would punish the grown ups not the victim for what happened... Sylvester showed strength and faith in life when he could have been bitter and rejected God. This shows great character..Sin is Sin. Gods grace is sufficient and it was obvious that he knew where to go for strength peace and forgiveness. Lets all try to carry our own cross like this talented young man did because the bible says that even the elect of God shall scarcely make it in. Hopefully we can prove to be just as vigilant to keep our eyes on the things that are above and not assume that God is functioning according to mans carnal assertions about others...

I liked him. I first heard “Do you wanna funk” at Oil Can Harry’s disco night on a Saturday in 1999. I was instantly a fan. Better late than never. I was born in 78. His voice was excellent. He had range. He had beautiful chocolate skin. He was androgynous and was truly good looking whether dressed as a man or woman. He still gets me dancing. Rest In Peace Sylvester. I miss your voice.

The video they show at 4:58 never fails to make me burst into tears. Because every time I've danced or worked out to this song, I've been smiling. And when it's still played at weddings and parties, people are having a ball. But his face as he's singing it is a portrait of anger, pride and defiance.

It's hard for people who weren't there in the late '70s and early '80s, especially in urban centers like NYC and SF, to imagine how terrifying and destructive AIDS was then... it took so many beautiful people in the prime of their lives. Proud of Sylvester for telling the world that was what was going on with him. He was a brave soul, no question, as well as very gifted.
