Sylvester Stallone stuck to his guns when he was trying to sell the screenplay for "Rocky," refusing to give it up unless he was given the title role, even though he says was a "terrible choice."
He's been the same for decades - laid back, humble, funny, kind - as genuine as it gets. Rocky was a beautiful movie in part because it's a character that came out of Stallone much more just naturally than through acting.
@@theitfactorjameswheezer2852 it was after he was sort of forgotten and considered a joke of an actor in the late 80’s to mid 90’s after doing horrible film after horrible film. I’m sure also being the biggest recipient of raspberry awards also took him down a few pegs.
@@luketemple1015yeah he let the fame get to him but he became self aware and went back to being humble. He was also very insecure about his height, dude got pissed at a party when he thought two people are talking about him, he yelled at them "yeah i know im not as tall as you thought"
TroublingMink59 If you're talking about Rocky then you're dead fucking wrong dude. It may have made multi millions, but the budget for Rocky was only one million. Plus they weren't going to let him act in it at first, just buy his script. In the end He got the lead buy didn't get paid for the script.
At first I scoffed at the comparison, but it's actually rather accurate. I think the metaphor works on several levels. Being a director and being a composer have a lot of similarities.
@Huma17 if it wasn't for that lip thing he would be respected far more than he is now. What's weird is he got this far in spite of it. He's by no measure dumb, quite the opposite, he knows his craft. More than most actors I'd say given his experience as screenwriter and director. Whatever, at the end of the day it's your opinion, it's terrible, but it's yours.
Say what you want about stallone,But he was made to be rocky, his character was never meant to be a pretty boy with everything,it was an against the odds fighter, stallone was perfect.
@weelewisdgfc That's why he knew it was a perfect role for himself, it's certainly not as if he went way out on a limb or anything. I mean, put into perspective, he didn't write a role based on the life of Cockney football player, you know? 😉
Great interview! I think most people, including myself, associate the real Sylvester Stallone's speech patterns and mannerism with the characters he plays, like Rocky and Rambo, that we tend to forget how well spoken he is in real life. Seemed he was in full control of his faculties despite his age and health problems. May he continue being successful. :)
+HigherPlanes He's 69, and people generally start going down hill a bit earlier, but I was referring more towards his health problems and the stunt accidents that he has suffered throughout his career. Strokes, concussions and what not.
Mr. Sylvester Stallone, no one could have played Rocky better than you. You literally lived that role, as you created that. It was your own brainchild. And salute to your humility and down-to-earth attitude. Time and Hollywood makes everyone shrewd, but you have managed to retain that plan, simple soul of yours. Remain blessed!
If working hard meant complete wealth and success there would be a lot more wealthy people in this world. Unfortunately it does take a lot of luck in today's society.
Because a lot of successful people (not all of them) actually recognise that Meritocracy is rubbish. Hard Work =/= Success. Life's too random for that.
+Ayan Gangopadhyay yeah but those who work hard don't brag about it.. look at kanye for example.. every interview is about how hardworking and talented he is.. how does that sound in your ears.. even though he's successful as fuck..
It makes a lot of sense that he wrote it. He played the character so well because he knew who he was. He created him. I don't think it would have been so big without him playing Rocky.
He had such an affect on me as a boy... ROCKY will forever be my favorite movie! Sly is so cool. I love his honesty. I could not even imagine James Caan or Ryan O'Neil or Steve McQueen being Rocky. It was meant to be.
Stephen Deac originally Steve McQueen was a choice for John Rambo in First Blood but McQueen died in 1980 from cancer before filming started in 1981 and Stallone got the role after other actors were considered so Stallone was met to play to Rocky and Rambo
When I was a kid ( 10 years old ) after seeing Rocky at the theater, I was imitating him in the parking lot, throwing punches and dancing around, I almost ko'd my sister. What a great memory as a child. Thanks Sly 👍
Thank you for giving us Rocky, Sly! Both for acting him out and writing him. You have no idea what a great gift you've given us! A gift to be treasured forever! ❤
Jason X First Blood From 1982 was another hit of his and it was his first movie out side of the Rocky movies at the time that didn’t flop at box office
Scott Knode even though First Blood deserved to be a hit that isn’t Rocky, his first hit that isn’t Rocky should’ve at least been F.I.S.T. that movie is pretty underrated
I really enjoy watching Stallone do interviews on the late night shows. He can take a joke and is very humble and appreciative of what show business has done for him.
He was very humble and at the same time grateful. He doesn't seem like a egotistical celebrity as you might expect from someone who has been around so long. Great interview.
Sylvester Stallone has presence, character in that interview but one thing people didn't notice is his HUMILITY. It is a rarity nowadays that's why at Sly's ripe age, he is still going places. Be safe Rocko or John! 👏🆗🇵🇭👍🍻
Was Sylvester Stallone a bad choice to play Rocky? I think the majority of Rocky fans will say Sylvester Stallone portrayed the Rocky character very well. The story has so many moving parts
There are actually nine actors who were nominated for writing a screenplay and best actor in the same year, at the time of this airing: In addition to Orson Welles and Chaplin and Stallone there is: Woody Allen for Annie Hall, Warren Beatty for Reds and Matt Damon for Good Will Hunting. Also Roberto Benigni for Life Is Beautiful, Emma Thompson for Sense & Sensibility and Billy Bob Thornton for Sling Blade. Bradley Cooper became the tenth with A Star is Born
If you had a chart of all the manliest men in the whole world, past, present, and future, you would just have a picture of Sylvester Stallone’s face. Thank you for defining my childhood🙌😭👍
Wow!!!! To have doubted sly for the role is crazy cuz he’s amazing character. Dang!.. it’s always us cancers ♋️🦀get underestimated for everything until they get shocked how wonderful we really are, just talented rocky!!!!👍💯
I think he is Just fits for Rocky. because Rockys story is very similar with his life story. May be that is why the senario was great and he played the role incredibly.
He may be right, and he never would have been chosen if the movie were made today. But that's just the thing---they would have chosen an actor who was "perfect" for the role, and it would never have had the heart and soul that come with imperfection.
I can watch movie like 50000 times and still wouldnt even be able to write the first line...This msn os a legend..so handsome in the 70s till mid 90s, sexy
The weird part is is I don’t usually think of Sylvester stalone as just Rocky that’s the thing I love about him. I think Sylvester Stallone I think of all the other iconic roles he’s been in and not just Rocky that’s why he’s one of my favorite actors.
Stallone was the heart and soul of that character. He was someone people could relate to and I can't see anyone else having portrayed the character as well. Although not all the films in the series have been great. (Rocky 5), I still enjoy seeing him play this character. I especially liked the first two films and the 6th film, which in my opinion were his best work as an actor.
S.STALLONE , WAS THE RIGHT , CHOICE .!!!! .HE BECAME THE PART OR CHARACTER .!!!! .AND HES , TRAINING WAS HARD TO BE THE PART .!!!!! .VERY FEW ACTORS , WOULD WORKED AS HARD HAS HE DID .!!!!!!! .AND GOT AN ACADEMY AWARD 🥇 FOR IT .!!!!!!! .👍❤️🇺🇸🚨.....
Sly's too humble nobody could or would have played that character better than Stallone. He was made for that character and he actually was believable as a down and out boxer doing tough jobs to stay alive and his ONE shot to change his life. Reynolds, Caan, etc... no one would could have done a better job for this character.
Rambo: First Blood is definitely a better film than any of the Rocky movies. After that it gets a little hazy but First Blood was an honest to God story with psychological and societal commentary of the US after Vietnam. It did a great job.
This move had a tremendous effect around the world. It was my dads favorite movie and will always watch it with him growing in Saudi. And was happy to watch creed with him when it came out
