@@scp-2348 many documentaries about sea life on Netflix has a big haul on catching a big chunk of audience! yet with the current society on earth will make it such a hard topic to BE TAKEN SERIOUS. WE MUST NOT FAIL TO PROTECT THE OCEAN. the business men/women behind Unilever and other grand sea food companies must know and adapt to the needs for a stable ocean life. Or some day I`m going to hire a fighter jet and bomb every fishing vessel in sight.

As things stand now, IT IS TOO LATE. SAD TO SAY. I found Ted talks and enjoyed almost 9 out of 10.....intelligent, caring people, giving intelligent Information.....not like TV news... and I don't just mean mainstream anymore. Unfortunately, where were all you intelligent, caring, and knowledgeable people years ago on climate "change".... because now it is more like a climate "crisis"..... EMERGENCY even, WHAT DO YOU THINK?????

This is so worth the time to watch & listen. It's scary how far we have come in depleting the oceans. Everyone needs to make a stand to save them for us, our children , Our grandchildren.. for if we continue to strip the seas- our entire life as we know it on earth will be gone.-

It should be shown in all schools, government institutions, Business Organisations, included in Mission Statements of all major programmes in construction & engineering. I am curious how many people who watched this video have actually made that small personal change to protect our planet (and oceans) and stopped eating seafood (and meat, meat products in general)? We all are masters to talk, but still continue doing the same things. If we do the same, we will get the same results. The smaller change with the greatest impact starts in our own kitchen. I've changed my diet and will never eat fish, meat and meat products again, you?

I was born near the sea and my livelihood came from the sea. As a child i learned alot of things about the sea. I am now an Advanced PADI Diver and it has been my dream to become a Marine Biologist. I think that people who live near the sea should be educated on Conserving marine life since it is part of our Eco-System, especially children. The ocean is my life and would do anything to save it.

This is a wonderful presentation of a not so wonderful subject, the state of the ocean. People just don't realize what is happening and that the ocean is the mother of all life on earth. If the ocean dies, we die. Its such a paradox that as we expand our knowledge of the universe, physics and make great technological leaps, we ignore what is happening to planet earth and our support system. I wish I had hope for humanity as a whole. All each of us can do is make as big an impact as we can.

I lived in Luanda, Angola in 2015, of the few times I went by boat it was disappointing to see so many garbage dumps in the sea, several times we had to stop to take out the garbage because it got tangled and clogged the boat, there was plastic, cans etc I am shocked and saddened. Luanda is a very ascinated city with a high production of garbage and a deficit for its collection and proper disposal, added to that there is a cultural and sensitive deficit towards the issue of recycling and protection of the planet and the oceans. If someone reads this comment, it may help raise awareness among the people and leaders of that country for the good of our planet.

I'm sad you didn't see passion in Dr. Earle, as she is someone who has long inspired me to care for the ocean. Although I personally find this video inspiring, I do think she is a better writer than speaker. I recommend reading The World is Blue, in which she writes compellingly--and with a great deal of passion--about our dependance on the ocean. Might change your opinion of her!

I think this might be a viable solution, but if eating cows, chicken, pork, etc, is also damaging to the environment, what do we eat? Do you think there's a reasonable alternative (save having the whole world go vegetarian)?

Unfortunately, people are still having babies and sentencing them to a horrible and sad future. Unbelievable. The earth is a FINITE PLANET. This video is inspiring and disheartening. The problems we cause in the oceans are largely due to overfishing, that is, treating the ocean like a "commons". ITQs and an increase in fish farming would cure that, but neither of them is mentioned here.
