One of Glazunov's most magnificent symphonies, and one that I have been fortunate to hear twice in concert- a splendid work! thank you for posting this wonderful performance. Svetlanov was one of the great conductors.
Somewhat unpredictable at times but overall Svetlanov was IMO one of the finest conductors of the 20th century. His recording (Y.T.) of Tchaikovsky's first symphony is one of the greatest recordings of all time of any symphony, absolutely incredible.
@@TheVaughan5 I agree, and I find his intensity completely captivating! I remember when the first Melodya records were reaching the West, some complaints about his permitting/encouraging "vulgar" brass in the orchestra- I loved it! Svetlanov is indeed one of the greats. thanks.
Cymbal player got lost on the last page, but recovered ok. Good decision to let it go- can't imagine a re-take could have been better than that finale.
The Moscow Radio Symphony Orchestra has what I think is the best recording of this work. They seem to ignore the piano dynamics in some areas but it makes the symphony come alive particularly the 1st and 2nd movements.
The Fedoseyev recording? I couldn't agree more. It's spectacular. The finale is blistering. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-YwZuMnMw2gg.html
