Javier Alba michael says that they always wanted to record in some ancients ruins or something (imagine that, it would be awesome) but they didnt have enough money): fucking capitalism system
Not many would think that Symphony X and Kansas have much in common... but always listening to this track I start to get those Kansas-vibes (vocal melody, twists and turns in the whole composition etc.)!
Those were the good old days. Last time I seen them for the Paradise tour they didn't play one single song from V -- only the greatest suite of masterpieces hitherto. They even dedicated an entire album side to it, how can they just pretend it never happened. They are still my favorite, but I am not without sadness, for I haven't been inspired or touched like that again -- although the Odyssey was close. it's just every single song on V is unbelievably exceptional. Truly surpasses any genre!
its 5/4, 11/8, 5/4, 11/8, etc, at 0:29 its 5/4, at 0:47 its 7/4, 4/4, 4/4, 4/4, etc, at 1:01 its 7/4, 7/8, 6/8, 7/4, 4/4, at 1:12 its 7/8 seven times and 6/8, 6/8, what an intro haha, good old stuff, not to mention the verse starts going 6/4, 5/8
its so nice that a talented band like this is finaly getting noticed!! been listening to them for 5 years now and im still amazed by their stuff rock on guys!!!!
Epic! It's good to know that metal bands actually are performing, and doesn't use playback like the majority of mainstream artists nowadays. Symphony X are flawless! :3
Saw Symph at London Astoria at the start of the year, around March time, and I can't believe this is Allen man he looks so different, comparison of now and then, he's definantly changed. and of course Romeo hasn't changed a bit, he's still the god of solos XD
hey... don't forget to listen to whispers either and the title from their last album, paradise lost... well... there are others and as mentioned: Candlelight Fantasia that's a song everyone should listen to at least 200 times in life!
You are right, but the thing is that in stadium or big festival shows like this, it can be REALLY hard to get a decent sound mix where every member of the band is heard properly in the mix to the crowd. Plus, Romeo is using a POD Pro with a Marshall Monobloc poweramp and two Marshall Cabs. Not the best live sound equipment. However, he still sounds decent on his own.
Does Symphony X have any ballads? I only know of their fast tunes like this one. I love Michael Romeo and his playing is awesome. I am wandering if he can play slow and emotional solos like his ultra awesome fast shred solos. John Petrucci can and does. Not knocking Romeo because he is one of my heros.
I love DT and I've only recently heard about these guys. They sound great. I love how their keyboardist plays. Stop comparing the two bands and saying who's better. I'm sure those guys respect each other.
@bahamutod I guess they put a mic inside the kick, you can't see it but it works fine! a lot of bands are using it, but most of the time it's used with a "normal" kick mic inside the hole. This way you can make a really great kick sound.
Sx as that subtle way of having odd timing wich you can feel good, Dt as that capacity of breaking a beat wich is hard to follow but still is pretty nice. Both are not alike so never compare them again plz lol
Watching this video shows you how much weight Romeo really has lost since. Quite a heck of alot, congrats to him. Great performer either way but at least he might live longer now lol, which means we may get more SX albums and shows which = win for us :).
Saw them live in 07, they were opening for Dream theater, Romeo was using horribly less stacks, he couldn't be heard at all but still Symphony X kicked ass!
Well you definitely have the right to say that-your guitar playing is epic. I agree-it's a shame that some bands are content to stay within their safe "popular music" zone and they are too afraid to venture out and take risks. Symphony X ftw.
i'm watching this video now; this is the first time i've ever heard Symphony X, and from what i'm hearing, they're definitely equal to Dream Theater (for those if you that feel the need to compare the two). i thought they were just going to be like Blind Guardian or something, but when i heard this, i was like holy crap, they're sweet! the beginning reminded me of castlevania or final fantasy :D
This is awesome, Russel allen has such a powerfull voice.. (btw i didnt know who burzum where so i checked them, sounds like someone who's being tortured at a metal convention)
It really doesn't matter how many strings a guitar or bass has or how big or small a drum kit is, or how many keyboards(you did not state that, jordan uses only one) the keyboardist has, it is how they compose music. Honestly, I don't like to compare who is the greatest, especially in music. They all have their own style of playing. I like both DT and Symphony X... yeah.. \m/
damn... i put this song for my 2,5 year old daughter to listen while driving...since then she is busting my balls listening to the same song over and over and loud!!! I should have put the smurfs instead
Hola. No hablo ingles. Solo me gustaria saber qué concierto es ese y como buscarlo. Hello. I do not speak English. I just like to know what concert is this and how to search.
They do respect eachother. I don't know for how long but members of Dream Theater and Symphony X appeared to be inseparable offstage when they toured with Megadeth. I've been a fan of both bands for almost a decade now. It saddens me to see fools trying to create fictional pissing contests between the two-they are both different bands who share the goal of creating mindful and technical music. Real music fans appreciate and learn they don't try to start shit like idiotic high schoolers.
I bet you screamingcheeto are an expert and an authority in the emotion buisness and thus got propably an idea that its possible and makes any sense to tell whos "better".
