Russel is a legend. His voice is beyond comparison. this song is as good as it gets. its "old" but no song gets me on like thjis one.. One of my first Symphony X songs and still one of my favourites. This song is one hell'of'a great music "make"
I saw these guys live a while ago at Jaxx Nightclub, best show of my life. Recently they were playing at the Fillmore in Silver Spring which I sadly missed.
I've been listening to this song since I was a young teen and was just humming the section at 0:26 onwards a few minutes ago and then caught myself humming Bach's Solfeggietto instead!
how do these guys write music, not only i enjoy listening to them, but i've always been asking myself on how they are able to compose such masterpieces.
You probably dont give a shit but if you are bored like me atm you can watch pretty much all of the new series on Instaflixxer. Been watching with my girlfriend during the lockdown :)
I've seen Symphony X & Dream Theater live (Separately of course, although that would be an insane fucking show). I would have to raise my horns for Symphony way higher than Dream Theater... FUCKING MICHAEL ROMEO.
They never overcome this early stuff, by the Gods, could you bring back this Neoclassical stuff and not shitty modern SX metalcore crap, this is fvcking great! \m/
@cjgone2 He was very like Dio on this album and it is one of my favourite SyX albums! Sure there are some filler tracks but the rest are awesome, and also sadly neglected these days by the band...
ok, do u not see Michael Romeo doin' demos on this song, as well as Sea of Lies, Of Sins and Shadows, Out of the Ashes, etc.? Seriously, look for'em on here.
There is by no means any power metal INFLUENCE... I guess thats just the sound you get when you mix metal and classical music. Power Metal is DragonForce FTL.
@BaronVonVascht they're mainly symphonic but sometimes they cant resist a little side influence:P lol the odd thing about them is that some times their albums tend to sound drastically different from the others. Theyfall under like 3 or 4 genres technically. It's pretty hard to pinpoint exactly what they are really.
The guys in the band hate getting labeled, but to me they ARE "symphonic progressive neoclassical power metal", with some thrashing riffs and a few gothic atmospheres, so there's a lot to symphony x
@KyleJPie10 When I'm talking about Influence, I mean the riffs sound a bit like the Riffs in Power Metal songs (And no, I'm not talking about Dragonforce), just way better.
@cjgone2 Check out "Domination" which is also by SYm X, the vocals on that are just badass, it is one of their heavier songs tho. I heard DT before these guys(a shit ton of it at that, I still do :P) and Allen's vocals are different than LaBrie's. JLB's voice is amazing and maybe it'll take a couple of Sym X songs to get used to Allen's voice. Now honestly, Allen's voice is amazing, but this album(Damnation Game) might not be the best example of it, as it is the first album he sung for Sym X.
hey dude, dragonforce= speed and very good band but, symphny x and dream theater = quality, creativity, speed, progressive style and more....... An endless sporadic very good too!
I thought this was well established back in inhuman rampage days...like 2007. Herman li and mike whatever dont play guitar over ab intermediate level. Check out the old herman li teaches sweep picking. Its heavily, heavily produced music. Id imagine all the guitar is compressed to shit and modified with after effects. Garbage live band, 12 yo me was so dissapointed, true story
ahh awsome, soo much awsomeness in 1 band, o btw labrie is incredibly whiney live, trust me i saw it with my own eyes an heard it with my own ears, this dude is soo much better live an i would loove to see him live
Their best solo is clearly not # of the beast lol..., but no matter IM should never be compared to the beasts of Symphony X. They are both Amazing, but clearly In my opinion Symphony X has been showing them up. They have always been good and continue to be amazing.
Fucking great song indeed. But what I always wondered: Maybe there are some fellas here who know the book "The Damnation Game" by Clive Barker (one of my favourite books by the way). If so, do you know if the song relates to the book in some way? (I'm not English, so I don't know whether I get all the lyrics correctly :-))
