Excellent video!!! Short, informative and right to the point. My truck would sit at idle for about 30 seconds and then shut off. It would also shut off every time I stopped at a red light. Checked the crankshaft sensor...boom💥 running like a champ now!!! Thanks for the video bro!!👊🏻👊🏻

Did u have any check engine light ? The code showed up at first and then it went away but my car continues to turn off when I’m parked or at slow speeds , but now the code doesn’t even show up

Dude I’m literally stranded in Arkansas right now because of this issue. I was afraid that it was a fuel pump because when I hit the gas it won’t accelerate. But the guy at the shop said this is what came up on the computer. Definitely convinced he’s right after watching this video.

A good way to tell if the crank sensor is bad, is when you try to start it, look at the instrument cluster. If the tachometer (RPMS) doesn’t move, then it’s your crank Pos sensor. This is because the computer can’t read how fast the crank is spinning (because if the bad sensor) so their for it sees it as 0 RPMS

this is true, I have old peugeot 405 turbo diesel without ecu so only thing the sensor in my car does is mesuring the RPM and my Rpm gauge doesnt work until 2K RPM sooo i think my sensor is a little broken XD

The first 3 symptoms were spot on for me! 2011 Dodge Avenger with 120k miles. Was at a red light and I felt the car shake and the engine stop running. I turned the car off, waited a little while, and turned it back on and drove home with the engine light on. The car is at the mechanic right now.

I also have a 2012 Dodge Avenger with 126k miles. I recently had the sensor go bad and get replaced. First the car died kind of out of no where. Then it had troubles starting again. The check engine light came on and I had O'Riley check it and sure enough, it was the sensor. The car died a couple more times before I just took it to the mechanic.

Add a 6th symptom and one you can't miss. The engine just shuts off while driving. It then won't restart until it cools off and then it will. Damn dangerous if you're in a high speed run or as I did, pulling out of a driveway and turning left and crossing a road with oncoming traffic to get to the opposite lane. Just replace the damn thing!

That's what happened to my car. Drives well until it is fully warmed up. Then it starts to idle roughly and stalls occasionally.

also: w KEY RELEARN: I figured out finally out that after cranking the engine- the ON position is simply not cranking...I was turning all the way w the key and back to ON. After many times of trying this it finallly came to me......... and it started!

This is insane! I’ve literally been trying to diagnose my 03 Honda Accord V6 with only ~101K, for over 6 months as the symptoms did not appear so frequent, at first (~97k miles then). Things got worse, I couldn’t figure it out and had all symptoms, among others lol (VSA light and brake lights on). Dropped off my car at a shop earlier today, and now I find your video. I might just pick up my car tomorrow 😅 hope to come back with good news! Thanks for this suggestion and great content!

Yes but the cam sensor also controls spark and fuel the crank I believe just tells the computer engine speed and compares that to the cam speed but the cam sensor the one that had to do with timing so it pretty much controls the spark and fuel spray

My sti 2008 2.5 hatch does this soon as I take it out of gear it drops if I leave it in gear mainly 1st 2nd it creeps up revs like something is on pedal.. and cold starts are high revs like 3k.. also take a while for revs to drop of when changing gears .. please help

I've had bad crank sensor on 3 dodges what they always did to me was start fine when vehicle was cold then would run and drive good for maybe 5 minutes then die and wouldn't start again for 30 minutes or so when it cooled back down hope this helps someone because they don't like to throw a code for it atleast that I've seen

My 06 srt charger starts on cold but once warm it cranks slow and eventually start or just crank with no start until cold again then would start strong on first try. Could this be my issue? I already threw plugs, coils, injectors at this but no change.

@@richey1794 yea could be hard to say. I've had crank sensors go and I never got a code but it would start perfectly when cold then 5 10 minutes later it would die and not start. I never sat and cranked it over and over trying to start it after was warm so I'm not sure if it would eventually start. I've had that issue like 3 times so if sounds like your problem that's what I'd try. Oh and I've never got a check engine light You could get it heated up to where it won't run them check fuel pressure even just press the valve should spray out decent amount if you don't have a pressure tester. I doubt it fuel related. could also check your spark when it's warmed up I bet you won't get spark. Your crank and cam sensors kinda tell it when to spark. So if sounds the same issue try crank sensor then cam sensor. BE CAREFUL changing crank sensor its easy but the part that slides into block if you don't twist and pull might break since plastic maybe brittle so DONT PRY it!!!! try to turn back and forth and pull so you don't have to pull oil pan to push it through. Let me know if it fixes it so others watching this video might get more info hopefully this helps and fixes it!! Good luck buddy

my buick regal when it starts shakes a little and def the gas how its a 4 cylinder and my tahoe runs way better on 6 cylinders. I fill my regal twice a week while the tahoe once a month and i use it at the same distance. i love both cars but these cars are killing me with these sensor issues but glad its a quick fix. thanks for the video really helps.

I had a bad crankshaft a while ago. When I would come to stop lights and sometimes when I was driving. The oil and battery light would come on simultaneously and the car would stop driving. I would have to either jump it with my charge box or simply wait for it to start up again

thankyou for the good video. my 2003 toyota tacoma would not start and i just had the spark plugs and battery changed out 1 week before. i thought noticed my truck doing some odd things before that. some of the things that you mentioned like a high idle during the park position or during the neutral when driving. i would have a more difficult time starting my truck because of it. the poor fuel mileage too because of it. did not even know that my vehicle had a crank sensor. did not need this part changed out until about 300, 000 km on my truck. it is a part that does not to be changed out on toyota trucks.

@@easyautofix I find that the sensors that they have equipped on vehicles do not work that well. You hook up a computer to the vehicle and you see a lot of faults readings.

Yep, my Infinity XJ35 intermittent bumpy acceleration, stalls at a stop light, and often feels like low power. Also my traction control light illuminated after a rough acceleration. P0335 Code . Hope this fixes this because Infinity dealer wants thousands for new CVT transmission with no guarantees.

Had a few of these but no engine management light. The service light would intermittently come on. Now it’s got the no start issue so I’ll change it as it’s cheap and see if that fixes it.

Quick way is watch you're rpm gauge if it's not moving the needle won't register any movement

That was my first indication. Kia Sorento- recently an intermittent sudden slight jerk like it was downshifting for a split second. The yesterday slowed to cross over the highway and felt like it lost power- real slow acceleration. Then noticed no RPM's registering but was still accelerating. Continued on the remaining 12 - 15 miles to home like that. At one point I slipped it into manual shifting and saw it was locked in gear 6. Could not downshift it. After I got home and it sat for about ten minutes, I re started wanted to be sure I wasn't stuck in gear and everything worked like normal again. Read quite a bit of messages on this same combination of issues (including no code showing) and unanimously they CSP sensor fixed the problem. I'm ordering an OEM (MANDO Mfg.) today and hope it resolves the issue before it happens again.

I see alot of vehicles with them go bad the vehicle will start and run good cold then drive good for few minutes then die and won't start again for 30 minutes when it cools off alot of dodges 95 to 05 that what happened me a few times

@@crazygringo9028 oh that dont sound fun there's really so many things could be id test fuel pressure if not that maybe take to a garage if you don't own a good scan tool where then can get the o2 sensor readings to make sure there working and heating if heated ones should also be able to tell if cat is going bad or getting plugged from scan, probably not crank or cam sensor could be but unlikely also u can buy can of throttle body cleaner I think its seafoam makes a new spray can just goes between the throttle body and intake hose then spray in there to remove gunk also could get can of regular seafoam gas additive and run it directly into your intake it'll burn it out and go through exhaust u just take big hose off break booster generally under the break master cylinder and put the can by the hose and let it suck some it while it's running you'd want to rev it up a bit so don't stall and use the full can it'll smoke like crazy from exhaust so make sure u do it rural area could be timing issue but probably not idk who new but could need computer updated since that's a thing now days alot of garages can update them you can probably look this stuff up on here easy id try throttle cleaner or through intake first stuff made by seafoam sell at all parts stores I do it every year

I work on 2001 Saturn SL2. This car had a permanent code P0446, which was coming less than 1 mi after erasing of the code. It also had very rough idle. I removed P0446 by cleaning all the fuel system, including Fuel Tank, replacing the Fuel Pump, Fuel Sensor there on the top of the Fuel Pump, Charcoal Canister, and by flushing the fuel pipes w/99% Isopropyl Alcohol. I also replaced all the fuel injectors and clean the fuel injector rail. I noticed that there was a plug (made by insect or smth) in the return fuel line (when I replaced the Fuel Filter), and I even think that the plug could be the main reason for the code. The crankshaft Position Sensor was replaced as well on the way. After all of that I drove ~150mi for a new battery installed and went to do State Inspection. The rough idle was still present, maybe it became a bit less, but still rough (especially on cold idle, it would be 1200 rpm). The car passed it, but when I was coming back the engine light came. I thought that is the common thing on Saturns of that type, when some codes come after the State Inspection scanners, but then they go away if you erase them. I've read there is smth w/Saturn computer, which is too sensitive, or programmed not quite well, but that problem w/computer on that car is common. But from that time the code P0401 (sometimes accompanied w/P0300, P0301, and even P0172) keeps coming back. This code is not same as in the film, but the car has rough idling, so I hope on some opinions on this matter, which I would really appreciate. Thank you for the informative film.

@@chrismartin715 As I wrote before, I did a lot to remove that P0446, like replaced Charcoal Canister, Fuel Pump and a sensor on the top of it, but though those were good steps at 120K, but I think the problem was in one fuel line. Because when I replace Fuel Filter (outside one, not that in the Fuel Pump), I noticed that the fuel line (I think it is return line) was clogged w/some white stuff. I cleaned it well. So I can't say for sure, since many people say that to remove that code (it is emission code) you do need to replace the Charcoal Canister. But that involved dropping of a Fuel Tank. Now the idling is better, not perfect still, and I have now another code P0401, which is related to dirty EGR ports. I replaced EGR (maybe this new is bad, defective), tried to clean the ports, but in my model (2001 Saturn SL2) to clean them properly you have to remove the Intake Manifold. I didn't do it yet. So P0446 code gone, but I can't say for sure what exactly helped: replacing the Charcoal Canister or that clogged fuel line connected to the Fuel Filter. Maybe combination. About P0401 I didn't solve that problem yet, the code is coming back after erasing.

Sounds simple...I did go O'Reilly's had it scanned.. have a 2009 Kia Portage Ex 6cyl.2wl drive....brought it there bec.for the abs light...got the codes..as driving away it stalled... they say it's "scan position sensor" bought the part.. now trying find location for that!

Theres many more symptoms... Sometimes its tricky, when the engine is cold it runs fine untill it gets warm then the engine shuts off and wont start untill cold again

my car ran fine, just would stall out.. Id have to wait a bit then try and start it again.. then it would run great for a bit and then stall out.. P0335 was the code!

Thanks for the video. I haven't had any of the symptoms yet, but my check engine light came on this past week and the ECM has stored the code for a bad crank position sensor. The light hasn't come back on but I at least know what to be looking for if the sensor is bad.

Can a crankshaft position sensor be bad without the check engine light indicating it. I've been experiencing hard start at 94°F on hot afternoons. Meanwhile on cold mornings at 69°F the engine often starts at a single crank. My check engine light is OFF.

Did it fix your issue? Mines having the same problem. Turns on when its cold at 1st crank. After engine is warm it struggles pretty bad to start at times. Already replaced battery, alternator, starter. Now im going at its either the crankshaft sensor or a fuel issue. Let me know of you fixed the issue and what it was please. Thank you

I have a 2004 Saab 93 2.0t, manual. I overheated once and it conked out at a stop light, I got it started after a while and got it to the gas station next to the light. Since then when I cranked it over, it almost sounds as if there's no compression or pistons moving. Nomatter how often I cranked it over it wouldn't start. I was managed to get it to start by furiously pumping the gas peddle, once started, it ran great. But like I said when cranking sounded like no compression but when I pumped the peddle a lot it would eventually start and run great. Now I was dumb and didn't fix the leaky radiator hose. So I ended up overheating it again. This time it not only sounds like no compression and as if the pistons aren't moving, it no longer will start even when I pump the peddle. Today I pulled a plug and put a compression tester on it, no compression when I cranked it. Pulled a second plug, hooked up pressed Guage, cranked it, same thing, no pressure. I have a strange feeling the pistons aren't even moving. Any idea what could cause this? I'm gonna check the 2 remaining cylinders tomorrow, but I'm thinking it will yield the same results as the 2 I checked. I can't afford to have it checked by a mechanic. Any help, info or ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.

I already changed cylinder 4 spark plug and ignition coil for the third time but it just got the same problem miss fire … what seems to be the problem? Need some advice… do you think the problem is from the camshaft sensor and the crankshaft sensor? My car have the same symptoms…

P0685 , ecm relay i changed, but it acts up when speeding up or running for a while . sometimes it will lose power when driving and all meters will go to 0 then go back to normal

thanks! i recently put in a NEW (but bad) CKP sensor and its apparently shorted internally- screwing up my fuel level gauge, ignition coil/ignitor(?) and setting off a host of other selonoids- et al! I cleaned all grounds, rebuilt my fuse box, new ECU, cleaned everything........no changes UNTIL i just now decided to swap back in the old CKP sensor. All the electrical clicking, etc went away immediately and Im not going thru the KEY RELEARN process for the new ECU

@@easyautofix ie: beware of NEW/ BAD parts! last bit: all craziness went away......and was able to do key relearn process (turning key to off, but not all the way counter clockwise position- was critical, as well)
