Unfortunately bladder cancer - called transitional cell carcinoma (TCC) - is often found late as its symptoms look like a urinary tract infection (UTI) - bloody urine, straining, incontinence, frequent peeing.
And many dogs also have a UTI so the symptoms temporarily improve on antibiotics.
So what can you do? In this video, Dr Sue will tell you about early detection, risks including high-risk breeds, and things you can do to prevent this cancer.
There is also a new commercial urine test that detects a mutation found in bladder and prostate cancer and can be used for diagnosis and monitoring. It’s called the BRAF mutation test, and I love that it’s non-invasive and can help detect the cancer early.

My staffy has bladder cancer. We are at the 18.5 mth mark, after Thorn was given 4 Mths with TCC. He is still enjoying his short walks around a lake. Does wee alot. But still likes to play at times. And can still run when it suits him. We opted for no interventions. We are blessed. And enjoy all the extra time we’ve been given. So far it has had an extra 14.5 mths. Loving him every extra day. 💜💜

My dog went through 4 antibiotics, once she was off antibiotics her symptoms came back. She was in such a bad shape with pain and non-stop urination and lack of sleep.. her quality of life degraded dramatically.. we made the tough call to put her down on September 10th. We are devastated and we are missing her every single day

My dog had TCC and was put down last Monday. Devastating! He was 11 and was a Mastiff X Lab. He was treated for urinary tract infection but finally had an X ray, and we found a large advanced tumour. He went on Piroxicam & Finasteride. He had incontinence with blood mixed. Once he started vomiting blood, loss of appetite, decided to put him down. That was about 5 weeks after diagnosis. He was still walking but getting weaker. I am now fully aware, but it's too late.

Ow we lost our 16 year old staff to bladder cancer. So sad thought it was a bladder infection. We treated that. And during treatment we noticed she was dropping blood clots. So we then had scans done. Buy then it was to late. She past 3 months later :( she was older then all my kids and it was the most heart braking thing to ever go through.

My 13yr old schnoodle was Dx w/ TCC on Oct 31, 2019. This was a few months after having bladder stones removed. Her vet said she had a month to live & wanted to have her on gabapentin for pain and Piroxicam for the cancer. I spoke w/ another vet who suggested a mushroom powder blend by Bixbi, and Turmeric. I also give her probiotics, vitamin E, CBD oil drops, and fenbendazole. (I do t give her the gabapentin) She acts happy and still does tricks and wiggles on her back every day! She is growing a cyst that the new vet said is the cancer spreading and I can feel her back ‘cracking’ when we pick her up so we are gentle with her. Is there anything else we can do? PS. We got a puppy a few weeks ago and that seems to have given her some new energy to play.

Thanks for the video. I have a 6 year old neutered male pitbull who began having straining with urine, and one morning had bloody urine and incontinence. This continued for days. Awaiting BRAF test results and (sedated) ultrasound, he was anxious precious ultrasound and bladder wall was described as “thick.” He did have WBC/ and RBCs in urine, but wasn’t sent home with abx, just waiting for cultures and BRAF… I’m wondering about these symptoms he’s experiencing bc I haven’t seen anything in my l google searching -vomiting -smelly urine (I figure untreated uti) -random panting when resting

Hello. I just want to ask if what’s happening to our dog, his urine is yellow (a bit dark) and then his pennis is has I think dark rushes or something that made him lick it because it’s itchy as I saw him. I hope you can answer this. Thank you in advance. 🥺😊

My dog is 11 and this is her 4th time for the year with blood in her urine , x-rays show no stones and she's on prescription bladder food for the last 5 years but I think this might be what she has 😔

I'm starting to think most vets are like the weatherman. I've also had my dog in for hematuria multiple times, had x-rays, ultrasound, bloodwork, the Graf mutation test, and no answers.NONE..... The last ultrasound looks like there is a thickening of the upper stomach wall, but every other organ apparently looks fine.

My english bulldog has no bacteria in the urinalysis and neg culture. Straining to pee but the put him on an antibiotic while waiting on culture results and he is improving. Man I dont know what's going on.

My dog had an ultrasound on desember 2019 and did ultrasound again 2 weeks ago.. The vet told me her bladder wall was thicker than before...but the organs like spleen still the same size...she just had biopsy today...im so worried if she has bladder cancer as what my vet told me most likely...she is 10 years old mix breed(bichon x maltese) Just wondering ur opinion...i cannot live without her... What should i do while waiting for the result ?

I know it was 2 years ago you wrote this nit did you find out the cause for the thickening of the bladder? My dogs bladder was is current 1.2ck thick but he's suffering with a bad Ecoli infection that has also spread to his kidneys. I'm hoping once the infection has been dealt with the bladder wall will return to normal

@@samxjoeify the biopsy result was tcc(transtitional cell carcinoma)bladder cancer back on augst 2020...my dog was given 4 to 6 months to live without chemo and up to 1 year with chemo.... I just do natural remedy(budwig diet)..she still alive and healthy...its been 2 years and 3 months...no chemo no medication

usually hyperventilation will be due to pain, so possible other organs affected.

M from India my Labrador have all those symptoms unfortunately bcz of lockdown I am unable to take my pet to veteran bcz I have to go for other state for good veteran bcz of lockdown state border is closed

@@NigelsModellingBench Yeah, I'm devastated, he's not even a high risk breed, the vet said he's never seen a case of bladder cancer at such a young age in his whole career, anyways we need to run some more tests so we're still hoping it's anything else.

I think Dragon Jokes loves to get a sense of superiority by putting others down. Pretty pathetic. He sees a pretty Doctor and knows she’s way out of his league so he writes stupid comments instead. Pretty dumb.
