you guys are awesome in explaining in detail, many videos i seen, but by far your videos are good, i am a mechanic but not too experienced with european, your videos have helped me very much, thanks
This is the video I needed to see! Watch you guys a lot before I take on the issues or maintenance on my 5 series with the N20. I had a slight winning sound for a few days prior to an event which shut the car down completely. Unfortunately, my battery died in the process of having it towed home and I’m not holding enough charge to get any codes on my autel scanner other than battery codes.
after watching a few videos 4k seems to be the average quote cost to replace the timing chain, though in your case that requires more work as it will need to have the engine completely removed in order to re-time the engine as the trans timing port is in the rear of the engine, doesnt require more time to do that job per say but does require one to lift the engine out of the car as oppossed to simply replacing the guides and oil chain guide as well with the top mount engine lift
All cars manufacture have their own re-occurring issues. Subarus - rod knock, engine failure/glass transmission, Volkswagen - electrical issues, honda - axles, Audi- slow/eletrical issues., Toyota excess oil consumption, Nissan - belt failures and valves.
@@andrei769 Supposedly according to the lead tech at my dealership he heard a bit of a whine, what gave it away was when i changed my oil the oil drain pan had a ton of little pieces in it (it looks like metal glitter) but in fact was pieces of the guide rails. Also grooving was visible from the oil fill cap hole.. I did an oil analysis with blackstone and it was clean, so it definitely was plastic particles in the oil.
I just had this issue, put an oscilloscope to see the difference between the two cams and they are not aligned, I calculated the offset being around 17 degrees discrepant, not sure how much is the limit but appears to be very consistent with a jumped chain. What else can I do to verify this?
For that high miles i rather not play the guessing game..get original part and replace the important stuff..its better to have piece of mind . I got myself a 328i GT 2014 at 70k miles..and im planning to do all the spark plug, gearbox filter, all fluid change and timing chain done ..
Hi guys, i have just taken the electric connection off the mass air flow meter and its full of oil on the connection. Have you come across this before. I cant see any other leaknwhen i takecthe maf out, pleasexhelp
I have the same code 130e20, got the cover off to check the tension on the timing chain, but its good and tight. Does that mean it didnt jump? What could be the problem?
@@jess5976 Yes I did. I've had to replace the camgears and also changed the timing chain. Was very expensive. Sold the car directly after the repairs because it also burned oil. Those engines are just nightmares
@@BIGM0NSTER no long story but it was actually my shifter. After a very long process of trouble shooting everything, we found that while trying to doing a dme factory reset it would stop and give an error for the shifter. Replaced the shifter and it started right up. However about 5k later my timing chain did jump
Omg. why is bmw so money hungry they made their engine so unreliable . I was almost going to purchase the F30 but after watching this video errrrr No Way. A Big Money Pit automobile company .
Hi i have a 2012 X1 n20 and it cranks but don’t start it was running fine but suddenly started acting up like no throttle no power and died Can you please help.
Specifically 2013? I’m literally about to buy one tomorrow with 87k miles on it. Dealer man said it was family owned since 16k and well maintained (all service records for proof) but timing chain was not included. Is he selling me a lemon?
BMW I thought german giants made the best engines but no their just made to kill of any savings you have they say design fault I say show me your money fault
