When you read the lives of the saints, most of them went through the dark night. They all learned that everything comes from God for our good, so RELAX and say Thy will be done, no matter what.
Brilliant! I tend to get weakened by having too many people around me, so I become spiritually distracted. I a also prone to bouts of melodramatic despair that is very enervating. This is so helpful. Just to learn to recognize these attacks and how to deal.
Father you have an uncanny ability to address whatever I’m dealing with. I’ve been praying for how to look for spiritual advice … and there you are! May God bless and protect you.
THANK YOU FR COLUMBA! GOD ALWAYS SENDS ME TO MANY OF YOUR VIDEOS WHENEVER I AM IN NEED OF HIS GUIDANCE. KEEP BEING A GOOD & FAITHFUL SHEPHERD, WE NEED MORE OF YOU NOW MORE THAN EVER. PRAYING FOR OUR POPE TO REPENT & STOP MISLEADING GOD'S FLOCK.
Thank God my sister found you today on RU-vid. You are just brilliant at teaching and giving advice on how to be a better Catholic. Thank you Father, cant wait to watch all you're videos.
Thank you so much for this and part 1 -- I was going thru desolation and understood some of St. Ignatius' remedies but would would take 5 steps forward and 10 back -- this puts together a wonderful program to put into full practice -- I cannot thank you enough Father -- what a glorious gift -- God Bless you & us all -- w/my many thanks & gratitude 🙂
My thought when you stated He cut you off. That is ok I will buy more sweets. Delayed thought response, No, don’t do that. He wants you to come to him so He can give you the finest sweets if eternal salvation. Wow that is deep.
Well said,, excellent. Fr. Columba Jordan, I hope you will consider giving short retreats on the Spiritual Exercises as does Fr. Timothy Gallagher. That would reach the ones that he has yet to. May God grant you wisdom and grace and all His blessings. Amen.
Thank you Father, just what I needed to hear today. A golden nugget in a field of sand. And wouldn't you know...I have an upcoming meeting with a CFR Priest very soon, so this is good grits for the mill. Blessings and thanks to you for your ministry...all the way from New Mexico.
Oh boy.....yup .. very helpful for me!!!! Thank you so much ❤️ I needed to hear that I will be doing these immediately 🙂👍 I don't want my relationship with the Lord to have any problem.
I wish I could be a baby follower of Jesus, honestly. He cut me off and I can’t get peace if I don’t repent again and again. I wish I could hate people in peace. He won’t let me. I wish he just showered me with grace like he did during my conversion. He’s not. I know why too. It’s like: “God please let me hate this person, look at them!” And he’s like: “as we forgive those who trespass against us.” Help us, then, Lord. Help us.
I noticed when I am cooperating with God’s will and striving after the Lord with more intentional worship and obedience I am greatly attacked. Also as you have stated if I am committing sin it will appear as well but in a different way and not to the same intense degree. I am aware though that it is Satan and I speak back and tell him to go away and I will not listen and then do the other, as you say, more prayer, seek wise counsel from a mature Catholic, etc.
That’s definitely the way to approach it - not by decreasing our spiritual efforts (which is very tempting) but to double down on them more than ever. God bless you!
@@ctmcatholic it is a good piece of wisdom that you have brought to light and it touches on a bigger issue of how we can fear lesser powers and not understand how powerful God is over all things. His Sovereignty. God bless you for making these videos.
Sooo helpful! I could see things I wasn't even aware of when you were talking about it. However subtle, there it is making a dampening impression on everything. My eyes are better open now and you gave me a lamp to use. Thank you!
What about a marriage of 33 years failing because of a husbands adultery and him leaving? Now I'm told i have to stay alone and offer up my tears? Boy oh boy, it's a mans world. Any sage advice?
+don't overthink it guys, Catholicism makes me uncomfortable. . . . just read the scripture like a book, start in Matthew, super easy and awesome, plus exciting, then one day start in genesis...in first (i)Johh it says you don't need any teachers -the Holy spirt will teach you everthing - great video!
Nowhere in St. John does it say you don’t need teachers. It makes sense that Catholicism makes you uncomfortable because it doesn’t allow you to interpret scripture as is wise in your own eyes and would not allow you to come to the conclusion that you don’t need teachers. Even St. Paul says not many should seek to be teachers because teachers are presupposed in the Faith. Please keep your heresies off of the channel and following it up with “good video” when you are just trying to sow seeds of dissension with a smile.
@@GioLeoLopez . . .you have zero idea what you are talking about, trying to make me look like a bad guy, if you want to start testing my bible knowledge i'm ready pal, haha . . i, ve read the whole bible as a young man, and never stopped reading and studying for the last thirty years, and now you start shoving religion or Catholicism down my throat, haha sorry, find someone else pal nice try . .
@@archadeinteriors Catholicism has been reading the whole Bible, never stopped reading and studying since the Catholic Church witnessed, wrote, canonized and defended it since the keys of the kingdom were handed to St. Peter and the Apostles for the last 2000 yrs. Fortunately, your 30yrs pale in comparison. Never said you were a bad guy btw, but you know not of what spirit you are. God bless you, brother, but commenting on this Catholic video to sow seeds of doubt and then say “good video” comes across and disingenuous. God bless you, my brother, and leave the interpretations to the proper authorities
well now, maybe i can quantify this a bit; i'm just trying to reflect back on what my thoughts were regarding it but i know for sure that my thoughts are always sincere, i don't make remarks that are intended to just criticze and find fault, that said i think i could apologize, sorry brother Gio Leol Lopez if i spoke in a hasty or nasty way, and sorry to anyone in the community, similarily, or if i was inconsiderate in any way . .i just think it's really important to recognize that while studying, teaching, and learning is ceaseles and so important, that the holy spirit also reveals everything with enormous power, instantaneously even. To be truthful, it's already written on our soul, we may just need to have a revelation to open our vision now, ( or again? ), to the fullness of truth,. . . and so in 1 John 2:27 we see direct evidence in scripture of this (maybe a note of consideration or reminder too that if we do not have a full, profound, revelation of the truth coming with enormous zeal and power from the depth of our soul then we really, truly, may not have the message of the gospel after all((my inference)), that ,or perhaps we have only experienced it in part) in 1 John it seems very clear that the full anointing of the gospel is manifested completely with the message of God's truth and spirit in our life
@@archadeinteriors God bless you, my brother. I'm sorry to hear that you are uncomfortable with Catholicism and I appreciate the humility it takes to apologize on a public forum. I pray that the LORD leads you to all truth which I am personally incapable of without the Church Christ founded on St. Peter and the Apostles. We can always do better in communicating ourselves but I would highly recommend reading the Catechism of the Catholic Church if you have not already as it is grounded very well in Scripture and Tradition. May the LORD be with you
Does desolation always relate to a single recent action you're talking about here, or can desolation be caused because when you turn to the spiritual life, there's a lot of OLD junk that comes up that needs to be addressed, and how to discern between the former and the latter?
Hi Robin, this is a great question. And just to be clear, it’s Katie co-founder of Called to More writing, as Father doesn’t manage this account. I would say it can certainly be both, remembering how Father says desolation comes from the Devil Himself. So a recent action, as mentioned in the video, might be falling into sin or neglecting to pray. At the same time, the Devil unfortunately loves to dig “old junk” and use it against us, as he knows our weak spots and often these can be woven into our past. As for discerning which is which, I’d say it requires just that - discernment. A spiritual director or a priest (e.g. in Confession) can be really helpful aids to our own discernment. Ideally with the help of someone holier and more experienced than ourselves, we can then begin to discern certain things in our spiritual lives, like where our desolation is coming from. Also, the more we pray the more we are tuned to God, and so the more we will see spiritual things clearly. You could also apply the principles Fr Columba mentions in this video on how to identify the causes of desolation and how to combat desolation with penance. I hope this can be of help! Katie
If you have "old junk that comes up and needs to be addressed" deal with it! Bring your old junk to confession and pray for healing. Your old junk might well be related to recent sin / recent action? Our sin comes from wounds that need to be addressed. These wounds need healing. The Lord wants to heal us. Let Him.
