I have Sync 3 in my 2020 Ford Escape SE in black. When I got the vehicle a little bit over 2 years ago in mid March 2022. Everything was so new to me after driving a 2015 Ford Escape SE for almost 5 years. I kind of figured out on using Apple Car Play at my parking spot just outside of my apartment. When I got the vehicle that I have to think it is a black one instead of silver grey. Even kind of remembered my license plate on it. Only one time that I almost went towards a Toyota RAV4 in black since it was parked next towards my Ford Escape. I really liked the black grill with chrome that is the outline of the grill. I even liked to pop up the hood,too.
My 2023 Escape Platinum Hybrid AWD that I factory ordered in January finally arrived at the dealer last Tuesday. 🚙 Love the Sync 4, premium tech package, panoramic roof and the new 13.2" screen! Daily round trip to work is 110 miles (mostly highway), been using "Eco" Drive Mode and averaging 41.2 MPG so far. Liked my 2021 Escape Titanium but LOVE my new 2023 Escape Platinum! ☺
That's exciting and great choice on the build too. Such a big difference from the 2021 model to this one, especially the way you have yours configured. Wild with that mileage too! Was your last Escape a hybrid too?
Ordered PHEV in January. It's currently in production (Aug 6). Pano roof, 13.2" screen and tow package. My 3rd Escape after a 2001 (first model year) and a 2018. Very excited to take delivery on this baby after a looong wait.
Super in depth on subjects that are intuitive, obvious and assumed. For example tone/fade controls, radio station presets, and audio sources. But then you skip over the nuances that some of us actually would like to know. Like in split screen CarPlay mode, the 1/3 of the screen that is devoted to Sync4, has 4 different screens to scroll through but anyone who watches this video, would not have the first clue what those 4 screens are, and if they can be customized at all.
Some of these features might be intuitive to you but they aren't for others which is why all my videos have chapters to skip to the info that's important to you. You're the only person who has ever mentioned needing clarification on how to swipe on the split screen or what those screens can do. I'll add it to the list of features to cover off when a re-shoot is done
That’s fair. Widescreen Android Auto and Apple CarPlay might look cool but until Google and Apple overhaul their apps, the widescreen doesn’t offer any additional functionality, it just gives the existing functions a little more real estate. Hopefully they do overhaul their interfaces very soon to optimize them for these wider (and taller screens). But in the meantime, if that 1/3 portion of the display that can be dedicated to Sync4 can be put to useful purposes, it would be nice to know what those purposes might be.
I was just in the new Nautilus with the new Ford/Lincoln OS based on Android OS and surprisingly even in that setup Android Auto still has the same look. It definitely needs an overhaul. The full screen does look way better IMO but I'll make sure to mention the split screen more in the next one!
Very helpful video. How does everyone like or dislike the touch screen climate controls? I think I could get used to it, but I have a feeling my significant other will hate it.
Thanks Josh! The digital climate does take a bit of getting used to but try playing around with the voice commands too. You can change the temp, turn the steering wheel on/off etc that way
I just received my new 2023 Ford Escape ST-Line AWD version. It had 150 miles on it. Empty gas tank- well that is okay. It arrive at our Ford Dealer, Lexington, in April. But the dealer did not know who it belonged to so it sat in the lot. I kept ckecking. Go fiqure. Anyway, I prefer some buttons. When you are driving you do not have time to look and navigate the screen. But we will see. Good Video.
Thanks for posting this! I was wanting to know how the air controls worked and if they were touchscreen only. I now know that they can be used without having to touch the screen.

Thanks for the very helpful video, I wish when they did the full screen carplay update it would fill the whole screen and not leave the the home button and wi fi signal at the top, hopefully they may update it.
oh my god-help us senior citizens transfer what we finally figured out from our 2019 to this one :) thanks-especially navigation was much simpiler in the last one-it's a plot to drive us nuts I think (kidding) By the way, I ordered ours in September 2022, and got it in May 2023....just so nobody feels bad about THEIR wait

You're welcome! That's covered in this video around the 08:50 mark ;) In Apple CarPlay on the top left of the screen you'll see a button with 2 arrows pointing to opposite corners, which will give you full screen CarPlay. Android Auto is on the top right of the screen

You're welcome! I haven't come across a way to add SiriusXM to an Escape/Kuga if it wasn't included from the factory. The only work around I can think of is to download the SiriusXM app to your phone and then connect via Apple CarPlay, Android Auto or bluetooth
Are you familiar with "blind spot ASSIST" on the 2023 Escape? I recently found it in the online manual, and in the hard copy of the manual. "During lane changes, the design of the blind spot assist feature detects vehicles in, or approaching, your blind spot and provides a warning, plus steering assistance to direct your vehicle back into your lane." The STEERING ASSISTANCE back into your lane has not received much notice either in reviews or in Ford's description of CoPilot 360.
Didn't dive too much into the assist in my first pass through in the Escape. But you explained it perfectly here. Great safety setting to prevent collisions and that's probably one good one to highlight in an upcoming video I'm working on
I have wind noise coming through the driver’s upper window. Had it checked out and they said they could find nothing wrong. It is not my imagination that sound is coming through.
Silent for me in Aug 2024 - Platinum. Compared to my very silent 2016 Sorento SX it is just as quiet and the Sorento is very silent rated. Perhaps it's trim related??
My daughter just got a 2023 Ford Escape. When you turn the car on it has like a little video on the screen part. They saw a TikTok video where you can change the video to something else that you may want. Like she wanted maybe like a Disney castle to pop up with some other stuff on there. Would you know if you can change that?

Hi. Do you know if Sync 4 is compatible with the SiriusXM traffic subscription (Travel Link and Traffic Plus) so that major highways and roadways light up in color? For example green roadways means traffic moving well, orange is slowdown and red means heavy or not moving at all. I have this on Sync 3.4 on my 2020 Escape and I love that. Also is the screen always white or does it change color at night to make it more comfortable for your eyes? Thanks.
Sync 4 is not compatible with SiriusXM Traffic/Travel Link. When you activate connected built in navigation you'll have live traffic/weather (3 years of service on the 2023 Escape). Go to Settings --> Connectivity --> Connected Vehicle Features and make sure that Connected Navigation is turned on. There is an Auto/Day/Night mode available and you can choose either ones. It's covered around the 19:00 of this video
Is there a way to get rid of that little side screen/quick view thing on the right outside of maps? Like can you hide it or turn it off when you're in the radio?

Nice build choice! The navigation option in the 2023 Escape is only when you get the 12.3" cluster screen in the Tech 2 Pack - that's one of the features you won't be able to find as an option in the regular ST-Line

Found this on an F150 Forum but it works on the Escape Sync 4 screen also. Slide the saved navigation favorite slightly to the left and a pencil and a delete icon appears. Slide it all the way to the left and it will delete it. This isn’t listed in the manual or guide which it should be. Frustrating till I found the answer online. Unfortunately there isn’t a way to sort the favorites.
Hi Steve, Three days ago I finally got my 2023 Escape Platinum Hybrid AWD after an eight month one day wait. I cannot find a way to recirculate the air. It's referred to in the owner's manual, but a control is not shown. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Bit of a wait there but exciting you got your new ride finally! It's covered around the 27:00 mark of the video. When you push the air flow location button just to the right of the AUTO button it'll pull up a screen where you can choose if the air goes to windshield/face/feet. Along the top left there are 2 other buttons.. one is to turn off the air and the one just below it is for air circulation
The garage door opener in the 2023 Escape is standard in the ST-Line Elite and Platinum only, it comes optionally in the Plugin so if yours isn't one of those models you won't have the opener. If you do have it, here's how to program it: Program Garage Door Opener to Opener Motor 1. Press the learn button on the garage door opener motor 2. Within 30 seconds, return to your vehicle and press and hold one of the three HomeLink function buttons you want to program for two seconds, then release. You might need to repeat the process 2 - 3 times Program Garage Door Opener to Transmitter 1. With your vehicle parked, switch your vehicle into accessory mode (don't press the brake but press the start/stop button) 2. Press and release one of the three HomeLink buttons on the Corsair 3. Hold your hand-held garage door transmitter 1-3 inches away from the HomeLink button you want to program 4. Press and hold the hand-held transmitter button you want to program while watching the indicator light on HomeLink. Continue to hold the hand-held button until the HomeLink indicator light flashes rapidly or is continuously on 5. Press and hold the HomeLink button you programmed for two seconds, then release. You may need to do this twice to activate the door
Wanted to love this car, but after driving an Edge rental with Sync 4 the screen lag is horrendously frustrating - and arguably dangerous. On a $40k+ car I can’t handle it! You see it in your video at 27:37 when you go to adjust the climate. Used to be one physical button. Now it’s multiple presses on a laggy screen. Why are they doing this?!
This one is the Escape not the Edge but the screen lag isn’t too bad in most situations. I’ve had a few people mention that they don’t like how climate control is touchscreen now but you can use the voice assistant to change climate as well by pressing the command prompt on the steering wheel
So is there a way to keep the screen on without the car running? For going to drive in movies without running the car for 2.5 hours but keeping the screen on.
Nope.. eventually the vehicle will turn off to preserve battery life. You’d need to either keep the car running at the drive in or cycle between on and off every 5-10 mins
Your info on Predictive Speed Assist is incorrect. Predictive Speed Assist is used for example, the speed limit is 55, and you have a predictive speed assist of +3 mph, when you set the adaptive cruise control, it will cruise at 58 mph. The tolerance is how many mph or kmh over or under the speed limit you want to go
Predictive speed: When passing new speed signs, the set speed updates. In the video I say "when the vehicle recognizes speed has dropped/raised it's going to adjust speed for you" - so I could have explained in a bit more detail. If you have adaptive cruise set at 45 and the POSTED speed increases or decreases it will raise or lower your speed based on your set tolerance level. Adaptive speed also can automatically lower the vehicle speed with curves and highway exits edit: You're right about how the tolerance level works
Can I use voice commands to use Navigation? I can type in location and it works. When I give voice command it does not navigate to location requested. Android auto on my phone starts navigating to requested location by it is not on screen. Can I search for location by voice with sync on my 2023 Ford Escape ST line? Please help. I must be too old to figure it out
Never too old to learn new tricks! The screen should have support for navigating using the built in Ford navigation to addresses using your voice. Try these types of commands: "Show me directions to..." or say the address that you're looking for, like "1 Yonge Street, Toronto" If Android Auto or Apple CarPlay aren't showing up, make sure that you've connected your phone and then selected use CarPlay or use Android Auto when you first connected. If that message didn't come up or your phone won't connect to either then delete the phone from the vehicle and delete the vehicle from the phone. Re-connect your phone to the vehicle and it should give you the option to set up Android Auto or CarPlay
For some reason my iPhone (with the newest update iso17) is having a hard time staying connected or if it does the screen goes black. Any troubleshooting tips? Just purchased car new and I checked for Sync4 updates and all good. So frustrating
Weird.. I haven't had that issue pop up with IOS17. You can try to do a soft reset by pressing and holding both the Volume Down and Seek Right buttons on the steering wheel controls for 10 seconds
I don't know of any manufacturers outside of Tesla that offer video playback through the infotainment. Definitely something that should be added though
Is this Sync 4 a new version of the Sync 4? Can models with Sync 4 also get this same system? What version is this Sync 4? For example, can this version of Sync 4 be installed on 2023 F-150?
The big difference between Sync 4 and Sync 4a are the graphics/icons in the 4a. There's no way to user adjust from Sync 4 to 4a unfortunately and the F150 vs Escape screens would have different programming so you'd run into compatibility issues there with availability of features
I did notice a bit of lag on a few screens but it's the first gen for this screen so hopefully it's addressed in a future software update edit: I'd recommend reaching out to Ford Canada or USA directly and let them know your experience. If people share what they don't like it'll help them improve
I bought mine a month ago, and yesterday the AC controls didn’t respond, it was ON but on the screen said it was OFF it didn’t want to turn off, I have to turn off the car so it restarts
Poorly thought out. If you want to adjust the temp, fan, AC, you have to look away from the road to make the adjustment. If you have knobs and buttons (as I do on my 2019 Escape Titanium), you can easily feel your way to the appropriate knob/button to make the adjustment. My 2023 Escape Platinum screen is more dangerous.
You should familiarize yourself with the voice assistant. You can use the assistant to change radio stations, make phone calls.. and adjust the climate! You can adjust the driver and passenger side independently. Just say “adjust climate to “x””
@@CarsWithSteve , thanks. I haven’t gotten to the voice assistant for climate control yet. I’ll try it out tomorrow (I do use it for phone, music and navigation). Any suggestions for changing the gas pedal height? There is no longer a button for that.
You’re welcome! I was surprised about the voice command prompts for climate control too but it’s a really useful way to adjust it now. Unfortunately no way to adjust the pedals outside of replacing them or getting a pedal block

Anyone have any issues with audio not working on their 2023 Escape Platinum, Hybrid, AWD, w/ the 13.2 Screen? Just got the vehile 2 months ago brand new. All the sudden audio is "off" and can't be turned back on. And now, starting today, navigation/GPS stopped working as well. We tried the reset (volume down, seek right) with no luck.
If you've tried the reset and it doesn't work there could be a wiring or module issue. Unfortunate that it's happened but have it booked in for a warranty claim
Got my 2023 Escape in May & I've looked all over for the answer. I'm trying to find out how to make it so that when I turn my Escape on the radio (Sirius XM) is the main thing on the screen with the GPS (Android Auto) in the small window on the right. Can anyone help with that? TIA
If you think this is fast you should see some of my early videos. Try changing the playback speed to 0.75x and then rewind it if you need to. There’s a lot of info that’s covered off
There is! Screen resets are done by doing one of two things depending on the screen you have 1. Vehicles equipped with a Power button: Press and hold both the Power button (center of the volume knob) and the Seek Right button for 10 seconds. 2. Vehicles not equipped with a Power button: Press and hold both the Volume Down and Seek Right buttons on the steering wheel controls for 10 seconds.
No worries! When you're connected over Android Auto or Apple CarPlay, press and hold the voice command prompt on the steering wheel to activate Google Assistant/Siri. If you have voice recognition turned on in your phone, then it should also respond to that voice command!
What they don't tell you, is you better hope nothing goes wrong with this Sync4. All of your A/C is on it, along with your heated seats as well. Also, this car is SMALL! They have downsized, everything! From the seats, steering wheel, inside space to the length of this car. Not roomy inside anymore. Only the chassis is the same size as the 2022, but going up from the car doors, they have sucked it in more. This car really isn't worth the money, they are charging them for. I had the 2022 model and got a built 2023. I love the LED headlights but miss my roomy 2022 model.
You could also control the climate using your voice.. but yeah it would suck if the screen needed to be replaced. Didn't notice a difference in the interior between the 2022 vs 2023 when I was in there but if I come across a 2022 I'll have to do a year to year compare
All you have to do is put the 2022 beside the 2023 model. It shows for itself! Ford downsized everything, what a big disappointment, then they increased the price! If you want a little car, this is it! I will not be keeping mine very long! @@CarsWithSteve

@@CarsWithSteve I live in Canada and spoke with the Ford dealer where I bought it. They say there is currently no way to change it Ford is working on a software update.
