Agree with you there! The Nautilus got a nice upgrade for the 2024 model so there's the possibility the Edge L that was launched in the Chinese market could find its way here too
@@CarsWithSteve My husband had one ten + years ago, which my daughter inherited (as a bribe for going to an in-state college). That was a hybrid and I now have this new hybrid. Was a long-time Focus driver then upgraded to two leased MKCs. I don’t like the look of the Corsair and don’t need that much vehicle anymore (if you know what I mean). I think I’m going to be very happy with this Escape. Mine is the same color as your test model. Had to laugh at that.Thanks again for your very informative video. I’ll be spending some time with my iPad setting up all the technology. You’ve made it much less daunting.

It sounds like your new Escape is a Platinum hybrid. I ordered my Platinum hybrid AWD on Oct. 26, 2022 and have a build date for the week of May 22nd, so I'm not expecting delivery until June. That will be just shy of an 8 month wait. How long did you wait for yours? I know Ford stopped production of the Escape (and Corsair), for at least six weeks, because of software issues, so that delayed my order (and roll-out), and I'm sure there were supply issues too. Just wondering exactly how long you waited. Thanks.
@@tabbycats5 Now I should stop complaining! I ordered mine the end of November and took delivery May 3rd. I’m in Metro Detroit, and it arrived within two weeks of the final build. I’m really loving it- and yes it’s a Platinum hybrid. I’ve got the cinnabar, which I wish was more red than purple. There were no samples available - I wish Ford would step up its color selections. Hoping for an early delivery for you!

@@manjleenbhasin1429I have the 2020, which is basically the same generation without the front refresh and the second room has a lot of legroom. I've had three adults in the second row but don't remember how roomy is was in width. It's fairly good compared to the competition.
@@devmediaonyoutube9149I have a 2020 Escape Titanium 2.0 turbo and you'll love it. My mpgs on E15 gasoline (88 octane) is around 29 mpg. I don't think I've had one tank below 25 mpg yet over 3.5 years.
@@CarsWithSteve I bought another daughter the high end 2018-2019 Mazda CX5 (not the turbo, non 4 wheel drive). She lives in LA and loves it. Zero problems to date. Bought the car virtually; she literally Ubered to the dealer and drove away with the vehicle. Lots of Mazda dealers in California; got a very good price online.
This daughter has a 2 year old daughter and wanted something bigger than the Mazda CX50 (Turbo premium preferred which I liked). I couldn't see myself riding a Toyota Highlander and I think the Hyundai 3 rowers are likely not reliable long term. And I wasn't impressed by the Honda reviews.

I factory ordered my 2023 Escape 1/16/23, it just came out of build status yesterday and ETA to my Cleveland, Ohio Ford Dealer isn’t until 5/18/23 😢. Ordered a Platinum Hybrid AWD with towing package and panoramic roof and premium technology package. Can’t wait! Trading in my current 2021 Titanium Hybrid AWD Escape. Looking forward to Sync 4 and the bigger 13” screen. Love your videos!
Haha I lucked out! I was at Yorkdale Ford to shoot a SuperDuty and this one rolled off the delivery truck just as I was about to start so I immediately pivoted to shoot this first. Good call on the options you added in, I think you're really going to love the ride. The hybrid is great and the new interior looks fantastic!
Side Note: Ford's US website doesn't show AWD as an available option for the plug-in hybrid. That was a factor for us when ordering the standard hybrid, which has optional AWD.
I have the Plug In listed FWD in the drivetrains section of the video but probably should have added it to the unavailable AWD list too. Thanks for pointing that out for people who read comments!
I don't like how they made the front look more bulky and less sleek and minimalistic. I also don't like how they incorporated all the buttons on the LCD console. If the screen breaks, you can use any features or if one button breaks then all the buttons get messed up. And the one button strip on the dash where multiple buttons are integrated into one large button. It just feels like Ford slacked out. I also didn't see the foot activation option or the option to add a Yamaha container to the custom order.
The front end styling change might be to prep for them getting rid of the Edge, which is currently getting a short 2024 run but unsure of the future of it after that..The LCD buttons for climate are an interesting choice.. you get still get traditional climate controls in the lower trim levels that don't have this larger screen. If the screen ever does black out, climate, navigation, phone etc can all be controlled using your voice Foot activated liftgate is packaged in with some trim levels but may be assembled without it because of chip shortages and the Yamaha container can always be added after market. It was a dealer installed option and never technically came from the factory...

Other than the Maverick which is sold out, the Escape is Ford's most affordable vehicle now. Still some new '22 Escapes available, and most are under $30,000 with 0% loan rates in some regions.
For crossovers the Escape is the cheapest but the 2023 Mustang is a few dollars cheaper. You bring up an interesting point though.. for people who don't care about the latest tech an Escape that's a year or two old would be a great buy right now!
Remember, Ford is no longer accepting retail orders on 2023 Escape and Maverick hybrids. You have to order a 2024 model and wait many months. In fact, retail orders for 2024 hybrids will be closing soon as they sell out fast. Ford can only make so many hybrids with supply constraints....about 20% of total production.
The Active and ST-Line in Canada do not even have heated seats, you have to get a $1,100 Cold Weather package. I wonder how many folks from the US thought it was 26F and not 26c (79F)?
@@CarsWithSteve I was looking at the Chevy Trax, Trailblazer and Kia Soul and all have heated seats at the lowest trims. Thus, this surprised me. That being said, I'm ordering one Monday with the Cold Weather Package.

I do have a 2020 Ford Escape SE in black. I have it a little bit over a year now. It took me a couple of weeks of driving it. The vehicle before was a 2015 Ford Escape SE. It died on me from an oil leak.
I bought a 2019 Ford Escape SE fully loaded for $26k about 4 years ago. I want a new Escape but the prices on them have gone way up just in 4 years. In order to get all the options that mine currently have I'd have to go up to the ST-Line Select trim which is about $35k which puts a new Escape way over my price range. I hate that Ford got greedy and you cant even get remote start or heated seats unless you go all the way up to the ST-Line Select trim. These days remote start at least should be standard now on all trims. To make it worse many dealerships are putting mark ups on thier vehicles. I guess I will just keep my Escape or buy a used vehicle
Parts and labor are more expensive now unfortunately. Check with your dealer though! They can take a look at trade in values and you may be able to negotiate on the selling price too. Don't be afraid to talk to different dealers either..
@@CarsWithSteve Yes it is! We get the 2,5 liter plug-in hybrid or full hybrid too but also on the St-Line. For the base model we get an 1.5 Liter Ecoboost 6 speed manual engine with 150hp or otherwise there are two Diesel Engines Available both manual or automatic transmission and you can have AWD too. But i think since one year now they cuted the big Diesel Engines that aren‘t available anymore, 150HP and the 190HP also with AWD available, but the Manual only for the 150HP
@@CarsWithSteve We dont get any 2.0 Liter Ecoboost engines here in europe. On the 2018 model year there was an option for the 2.0 ecoboost engine with 240hp and automatic transmission and AWD but only for that year idk why
Oh the manual would be interesting to drive in this and a diesel 🤔 I have to find a way to try one out! Wonder if the change for the 2.0L had something to do with emission standards? Have you had a chance to drive one of the diesels?
@@CarsWithSteve Yes, ive had the chance to drive the 2.0 150hp Manual, beautiful engine runs smoothly and the consumption is just fantastic 4,9L on 100km! Ive also had the chance to drive the 190hp auto, that is the perfect engine for the Kuga/ Escape and the cunsumption isnt that much higher. Ford is cutting ALL Diesel engines out of every car that ford builds.. 3 Year ago you could even have the Ford Fiesta with the 1.5 Diesel engine with 95 or 120hp. For that car it was an amazing engine in terms of consumption but also for the performance. The Ford Focus was also great with the Diesel engine ranging from 95hp to 190hp with 1.5 liter for the smaller engines 95hp and 120hp and 2.0 liter for the 150hp and the 190hp. On the Focus the only remaining Diesel you can currently have is the 1.5 Liter 115hp automatic transmission. Ford is going to take away all the Diesel engines for ALL cars in 2024

The 2023, ( newly designed) CRV has a recall. The 2022 crvs has 0 recalls. Whenever any car makers redesigns a model there are more recalls. That's why I bought the 2022 CRV.

Yeah the Escape oddly doesn't have a color selector.. You can only turn it off by turning that brightness in the screen down to 0! How are you liking the Escape so far?

Good to hear you're enjoying it! The mirrors are manually folding... you just have to give it a bit of a push in towards the 1st row doors to make it happen. Might feel a bit tight if they've never been folded yet
I booked a Factory order Escape 2023 Platinum Hybrid. But, now comparing with 2023 Tucson Hybrid, I feel Tucson has more features for the price. Would you agree? Between Tucson and Escape Hybrid, which one you would go? The Tucson Hybrid has pano roof, smart handsfree liftgate etc but for Escape, have to add additional packages to get panoroof and there is no option for handsfree liftgate and also no Integrated turn signals in Mirrors. I feel Ford Escape is bit over priced.. Isnt it ? I would like to go back and get out of the deal I signed in Ontario, but dont think I can back out now. Can I ??
There's a lot of similar tech and a few small differences between them. The Tuscon screen is wired Android Auto and Apple CarPlay vs wireless in the Escape. The Tucson Ultimate would have heated/ventilated 1st row seats, 8 speakers, wireless charging and a blind view monitor that shows the blind spot in the cluster when you use your turn signal. The Escape Plugin Premium has heated 1st row seats, 10 speakers, wireless charge pad, plus a 360 camera, park assist, hands free liftgate and head up display. The Escape has more electric km at 60 vs 53 in the Tucson, plus Escape has better overall fuel economy. Price wise, for both fully loaded, the Tucson in Canada rings in at $49,856 vs $54,624 ($56,374 if you want the sunroof) for the Escape and they are both eligible for Canada's $5,000 iZEV rebate. Hyundai actually bakes that $5k discount into their displayed pricing and you have to dig around to find that the discount is applied, whereas Ford pricing is the true out the door cost. A lot to consider there.. Once a deal is signed in Ontario it's locked in unless there's some dire excuse and the dealer is willing to bend. $50k for either car is a big choice so don't feel bad about buyer's remorse.. happens all the time regardless of which vehicle is chosen.
They can be upfitted aftermarket if the need is there... Only need to worry about is putting it in drive/reverse.. once the engine is turned off it defaults to park with this dial shifter
Thanks for the video. I see the ST-Line Select Hybrid (with 12.3 in center panel) has a slight different main instrument cluster. I can't find a way to configure it with the 2 "round gauges" you showed in this video. Perhaps you can create a similar video for that model. I wish Ford had done it. The owners manual is not much of a help.
Appreciated! I have a video on the other cluster screen coming out soon. There's no option for the round gauges unfortunately.. it's one of the sacrifices Ford made for the smaller screen

I did get the larger one (13.2in) but I did not notice on the order process a difference for the main gauge cluster (by the steering wheel). I wonder if the top model has that differentiation or if this comes with some tech package. Cheers.
The standard ST-Line has the option for Tech Pack 1 which gives you the larger 13.2" media screen but not Tech Pack 2 which would have given the 360 camera, upgraded sound system, 12.3" cluster etc. The ST-Line Select would have have the option for Tech Pack 2 which would give the screen that was shown in this video. I've got a video I'm working on now about the difference in trim levels and packages!
Interesting on the ADR 🤔 it was pretty noisy in the background when I shot this and tried a new background noise reducer. Didn’t think it was that noticeable
The audio is perfectly synced - it's the background noise reduction that gives it a slightly weird vibe at the beginning. There was background noise that was nearly impossible to remove so I had to use an AI tool that slightly messed with my voice but got rid of the background pitch

It appears that is happening everywhere. My deal on my old car was coming to an end and I wanted a hybrid. I had looked at an escape gas version and liked the car so I went looking there. They had a previous and quoted $900 a month payments. I was walking out and this ST arrived. I bought it, not knowing it was a basic hybrid missing all the safety pluses. Adaptive cruise control. Lane assist. So far I just made it to 39.1 mpg. I was told 42 mpg. No operators manua

The base in USA doesn't have it available.. Active/ST-Line Select are optional with the added Tech Packages and the higher trims have it standard! One of the few features I didn't cover off in this video haha
Get them while you can as it was announced recently that this may be the last Escape Ford will be making. Supposedly they want to concentrate only on 3 row SUVs…
Haven't seen an article anywhere on that announcement. I do know that a few months back Jim Farley mentioned Ford may look at discontinuing their 2 row ICE vehicles but that'll be when they make the shift to a 2 row EV outside the Mach E

The Escape wouldn't come close to being able to touch the performance of the Edge ST. so if you're going after the ST for performance then stick with that plan. If you're concerned about the future of the Edge, you could always lease instead of finance it too! If it was my choice between the Edge 2.0L and this new Escape 2.0L though I'd go for the new Escape. But I'd personally have the Bronco Sport Badlands on my radar over the Escape
After Iowned 3 past Escapes, I am soo happy I now drive a CRV. Much better QUALITY BUILT. I have had 0 issues, where my past escapes, all of them had issues, and recalls
The CR-V has had recalls too but good to know you're enjoying the new ride. Haven't had a chance to start reviewing Hondas yet but it's on my list this year
Interest rate varies depending on how long you finance/lease for but there's always the option to buy it outright if you have the cash. Take care of the car and unless there's a defect it'll be fine. I've seen Escapes roll over 250,000 km without running into issues

@@CarsWithSteve I do like your review as you went into details, but many manufacturers and reviewers talk less about the car, how it drives, behaves while going through bends, how it feels at higher speed is it loud, how is the real life consumption... and too many talk and show the infotainment as if it is a sole reason you buy the car.
Interesting take... I shoot the videos I do because I found that most reviewers focus on just the driving dynamics or ride comfort and not enough on the tech, features and difference between trim levels. I'd say my reviews are more geared towards the existing/new owner or someone who has it on the top of their list for a next car.. But re-reading your comment just made me realize it could also be a disconnect for people who only want a quick look at what it offers to see if it's even list worthy or to see what the hype is about
