Awesome of Dick Clark convincing the judge to accept “kid.” That should have also affected her time too. Not sure if they let them have less than 46 seconds because she said kid early on. But it was the right decision to accept “kid.”

The only reason why I thought why they might not have taken. It is because the category said things your child says. I was wondering if they wanted the specific word of your child as opposed to any child or kid. Otherwise, I completely agree with you. She said kid very early on. I don’t know if she would’ve gotten to 46 seconds or less. I actually think she would have, but it’s hard to say. And even then, in fairness, 46 seconds usually wasn’t a good enough time to end up in the final three of the $100000 tournament. She was a really good player, and those were two of the best celebrities to ever play that game.

It's always so happy when someone wins the winner's circle. Something about the music mixed with the hugs and pure jubilation make these the best winnings in game show history.

Mema and I would always watch the *"Pyramid"* together whenever I got home from school... Back in the early '90s when it was in reruns on USA. She'd always have a big pot of Chef Boyardee spaghetti and meatballs waiting on the stove for me... I remember we would always be SO excited whenever someone got to the top! Watching this *really* hits different, now that she's passed... Here's to beautiful, childhood memories! Miss you so much, Mema... ❤️❤️❤️❤️🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾😌😞🙍🏿‍♂️🍝🔺️

I never saw this Markie Post win before with What A Child Says. I was wondering why the judge did not accept KID. But I'm sure that there must have been a stopped tape incident where the judge fibally accepted KID for CHILD. And the way they dealt with that on the show. Great $25,000 win.
@njn3
@njn3 3 года назад
Here's something that people haven't brought up... It's great that Mel won the $25K... But the discrepancy over the second box might have cost her a spot in the tournament... I looked at it... So let's say the judges decided to accept the word "kid" from the get go... That meant she would have gotten the first two boxes in 8 seconds... The first time she said "kid" there was 52 seconds left... So that's 8 seconds... Then it took from the 41 second mark to the 5 second mark to get the other categories.. That was 36 seconds... So 36+8=44.. She completed the board in 44 seconds... Before the round Dick Clark said that the low time was 46 seconds.. So she would have definitely been in the tournament... I wonder if anyone on the show addressed that... That's kind of a big deal... A shot at $100K.

As it turns out, there's two things at stake here. 1) The ruling could be that any time consideration would be nullified because instead of winning in X amount of seconds, she won by judge's decision/by appeal from Dick Clark - there wouldn't be a time consideration in that situation. 2) If they HAD addressed that and given her the 44-second time...that would have put them in something of a quandry. As it turns out, not only was 44 seconds the final minimum for this first tournament, there was also a tie for that time! There was one with 36 seconds and then two others tied at 44 seconds. (Marine Captain John Kiefer, who had qualified at 40 seconds, would be called away on assignment, thus having to forfeit his spot.) So, letting Mel in means there's one qualifier at 36 seconds and then three others all tied at 44 - ergo, four people "qualified" for three tournament spots. What do you do then? (And if John hadn't been called away, that's FIVE qualified for three spots.) Between those two things, it's difficult if not impossible to imagine a scenario where in the end she gets in based on this game.

@@michaelj.kerkau1625 Actually, if you watch, you'll notice that AFTER Markie said PASS, the box flipped, meaning that it was accepted! Why they retracted, just to green light it at the end, is BEYOND ME! She SHOULD have been in the 100 grand tournament
@michaelj.kerkau1625
@michaelj.kerkau1625 2 года назад
@@justrelax1539 I don't think that was them accepting the answer right there - I think that was instead them making an additional (separate) error of turning both boxes when they really only meant to open the $150 box for that one to start being played. If they had accepted the answer right there, then there should have been a "ding", yes? But, there wasn't. And then by the time $150 was guessed, $100 is back to showing its subject.
@justrelax1539
@justrelax1539 2 года назад
@@michaelj.kerkau1625 Either way, Markie STILL should not have had to go back to that box! They SHOULD gave it the green light the FIRST TIME AROUND! This was a HUGE judges error that kept her out of the tournament for 100 grand! The judges SHOULD HAVE kept a thesaurus or dictionary close by, and then it WOULD NOT have had to come down to an appeal
@michaelj.kerkau1625
@michaelj.kerkau1625 2 года назад
@@justrelax1539 See my original reply from months ago - even with giving it to them right away, that STILL doesn't guarantee she'd have made it in. (As it stands, she ended up winning more in the end than either of the two losing tournament contenders: She finished with $54,750 plus prizes, compared to $13,550 + a car for Robin Schiff and $48,400 + prizes for Toby Mandleburg.)

@@2themoon863 WOW, I didn't know that! I loved Split Second. As I recall, the host was either Monte Hall or Wink Martindale. It aired in the early 1970s, when I was still in grade school. I don't remember much about the game itself. The thing I do remember is that the winner was given a choice of 1 of 5 keys to use to attempt to start one of 5 cars displayed on stage. If the car started, the contestant won the car and was retired from the game. If the car did NOT start, then the contestant got to return the next day, with one of the cars retired. If the contestant won again, he got to try to start one of the remaining 4 cars. This continued each day. If the contestant won 5 consecutive days, then he/she got to choose any one of the 5 cars to take home. I only saw THAT happen ONCE.
