It is a great idea. If you get the preamp to bark, then the power amp just magnifies what the preamp is doing basically. Power amps matter, but not as much as the preamp in getting tone and eq. Very cool. Steve is just a great guy.

The sky is the limit with Steve + his new toys..

I'd like to see a tutorial on how set set up all those modules with the Axe FX.

These have gotten me interested!!!! It's nice that a company has created something for the fans of analogue old gear!!! Things such as Fractal Axe FX leave me cold as it's not like a nice valve amplifier!!! When are they going to be available in England!?

I really dislike how people are acting like modular preamps are the wave of the future. Randall did the exact same thing a decade ago. This isn't even remotely close to a new idea.

can anyone tell me which pedalboard he use to switch between the amps?

I'm a blues player I don't need that many amplifiers, to clean of atone for me are it could be the way Steve is playing I guess if you got enough money you could get one! But most guitar players don't need 5 amplifiers they only need one with a cup of pedals!

The Fave of mine! I love his style and sound. I don't want to sound like him, but would like to have some of his skill sets to add to my sound.. I think that's the problem with todays world. Everyone wants to sound like todays hottest ticket! You got to create your sound and it has to be legit or else you're a fake or wanna be! My own sound is getting close..my skillset is still needing work. But, I can build my skillset as I work with my sound!

I like Vai. Great player. However,I think he could modify his amps with 3 bass controls,ripping the mid and treble controls completely out of the circuit, run through a pedal that says " More Bass, No Treble ", and play a 15 string with 6 bass strings on it and still somehow manage to get a trebly sound.

So it's basically a much smaller rack preamp....

great that he likes it and hope Satriani grabs it too because what I hate is when these guys do shows and they have the same sound the hole show which gets on my nerves very quickly because it often is all instrumental show. there are no lyrics so change something in the sound or else your hole show sounds like one long song.

So much treble. So much delay.

Legacy sounds better imo I mean you can do anything w/ it death Metal, country, very versatile.

The synergy modules are very cool. Two have quite a number of them, let’s say 6 modules , plus there rack, plus their amp, your looking at a pretty substantial investment. Take the time to have a good look at Blackwidow Audio Designs “ analog tube modeling preamp MGP-1A, you’re in for a real surprise !!

5:07...Plexi amps don't have a clean or dirty channel....they're one channel amps.

The interviewer should've left the room and returned at the end of the day to finish the interview.....Steve would've been finished noodling by then.

I've been going to Synergy's web site on and off for almost 2 years and they haven't brought out a new module in all that time, so I think they're FOS about all these new modules in the pipeline. (They've been talking about new modules for more than 2 years - it's mentioned on damn near every YT video about their products.)

Steve is amazing. But he "colors" his tone too heavily such that, when he switches to a Plexi, it really doesn't sound like a Plexi because he has a Compressor, Delay, Reverb, Exciter, etc all still running and squashing the tone and the playing will sound fantastic, but tone to someone looking for a Plexi...not soo much. Turn off all of the crap (Fractal Axe-FX, etc), sorry Steve, and play with ONE the amp tone!

Love all the armchair experts trying to tell Steve Vai how to use an amp.

I love him to death lol but even disregarding randall MTS and egnater, there is some theory as to why these modules are NOT the real deal. But, that doesn't mean they can't come close to the real deal, just let your ears decide. Not to over analyze but the gain stages aren't there: every 12ax7 tube has 2 gain stages... Now for a plexi preamp ok, you have 2 12ax7s, metropoulos can recreate that. But a hi gain amp like the SLO, legacy, etc. Those NEED at least 3 12ax7 preamp tubes to work as they should. And they don't have them. Even disregarding the clean channel you still need 3 12ax7s. It could be done if the tonestack was not on the modules themselves but it is, and if it weren't it'd be common to all modules so no versatility. So how are they doing it? A small peak on the old schematics shows mosfets as input stages or source followers to drive the tonestack. So you need solid state as input or buffers for the tonestack. Not a bad thing at all in my oppinion. EVH do it on the evh 5150 lbx series and works great. But the original circuit is not really there. I wouldn't lose too much sleep over it as long as the sound is pretty good.

STEVE.... if you’re gonna promote pre amps, turn off ya delay and wah please!!! It’d be nice to hear its True Tone, not fully effected.🎸
