For those on this video, Synology is replacing Cloud Station Server with Synology Drive. Here's my upgrade video on this process: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-U9JaI_LeSP4.html
Hi, I'm running a radio station, and I understand this app, so far so good. There is a big BUT, our Belgian Thieves providers let us download blocks from max 2Gb, e-mail even 14Mb attachments. When my workers download music from my Filestation, it can be done with blocks from max 2Gb in ZIP. I"m asking myself if cloud station treats the synced music files like filestation in ZIP? Or number per number, file per file. I like to know that first before installing this app an do all the efforts, which maybe not working. Thanks and hope you stay safe.
I recently replaced the two 2TB drives in my DS218j with two WD 6TB drives. The new drives are much noisier than the older drives so it is impossible to notice that they are churning like crazy. My understanding of Cloud Station Drive is limited, but I did look at the sync log and noticed that the majority of the traffic was from my Windows 10 AppData folder--mostly uploads to the server and mostly from Firefox's "Profile" sub folders., but there are also quite a few "Remotely Renamed" events logged and these appear to be non-system files that I would have created. Any idea what the "remotely Renamed" events represent? Also, you didn't talk about the File Filter in this video, but I decided to see if I could reduce the disk churning by unchecking AppData in the file filter list. That has made a huge difference in the disk churning, but I don't know what the ramifications of not syncing those might be, especially if I want to access application files remotely. I have very little understanding of the role played by the "App Data" files. Remote access would likely be using Android phone apps for access to Word, photo, and PDF files, so I'm guessing that AppData files on the NAS would not be needed on the smartphone. What do you think? BTW, I have watched all your videos about setting up the Synology NAS and found them helpful. Thanks. -Thom
does every user that needs to access the file from the Internet (outside editing an excel file simultaneaously) needs a quickconnect ID? or only the administrator just needs that quick connect ID?
Please annotate to include when one should be logged in as the Admin, and when one should be logged in as the User. I'm the Admin, and I'm trying to set this up for each user, and it's not clear what the Admin needs to do versus the user. Thanks.
Everything on the webconsole should be done as Admin. Everytyhing on the PC should be done with the credentials for whoever's PC you're setting up at the time.
This might be a dumb question - why would you want a 2-way sync with the NAS? I used your other vid to set up cloud station backup which I'm using for my D drive. I then use windows own backup for operating files which are sent to the NAS. but the 2-way sync suggests you'd be creating or modifying within the NAS - so is its use for people collaborating on files? I use onedrive to sync any docs, onenote etc. Just confused about use case, not necessarily how you set it up. Thanks for the vids though, they're much easier to follow for a newbie like me than the synology website.
Yeah having bidirectional sync is great if you have multiple people using the NAS, or even if you have two or more PCs that need to edit the same files.
Thanks for the reply! Thought that may be the case. So glad I found your vids. Helped get the backups sorted just how I wanted them. Just gotta figure out port forwarding and https security and I’m flying!
Great video. Are you noticing issues with the latest DSM updates where you run into authentication errors when a single account is used on multiple computers for cloud drive? Thanks
No, I have my Synology connected to two other Synology NASes and two PCs all with the same account. There shouldn't be any issues with using the same account on multiple PCs. Are you using SSL encryption?
Thanks for the video. If I set up 3 PC's to sync, and I have 20,000 files in a folder I want to sync, would I use the same user on all PC's and would I start with empty sync folders and copy the 20k files to the nas sync folder? Or would I just add the existing folder with 20k files as a synced folder?
+homeskillit You can use the same user or separate users. It depends on if you own all the PCs. If you add another shared drive in the future and give that user access to it they will all be able to sync it so just keep that in mind. You can choose the folder on your PC that has the files and then those will automatically copy to the NAS and the other two machines. Does that answer what you were wondering?
I'm still a little confused about the difference between Cloud Station Drive and Cloud Station Backup. Drive is for sync and Backup is for backup? In a way, a sync could also be considered a backup if the trashcan is active on the NAS, or am I missing something here?
With how the Synology apps work, there isn't honestly too much of a difference. The Backup app isn't two-way is the main difference. On that note, neither are a true backup as you'd want to do a backup to a seperate directory that has data from a specific point in time (or multiple points-in-time).
Good content but I've had to re-do the Cloud Station Drive several times, had to delete files from PC (Windows 10) several times, re-assign a destination, etc. Now it is working but on the NAS CloudStation it has in red ink "Remote folder disabled or is non-existent", however a mouse over shows the path but it is not the path in the File Station, it is the PC path.
What do you mean by NAS CloudStation. Are you using CloudStation Sync to Syncronize two PCs? If you have Discord jump on my server so you can share screenshots and I'll help you out. In troubleshooting a picture really is 1000 words so I can see what you're seeing.
OK, so everything looks as yours, but I have lots in the local drive I want to backup, yet so far nothing is showing up. Is there someplace to see if there is progress, or would I see content get loaded in the File Station on the NAS?
If you single click the icon on your desktop there should be a quick bar that shows files currently being synced and the most recent synced files. Icons on the bottom right of the file thumbnail indicates if it is a file from your NAS (green) or a file uploaded to your NAS (blue). If you double click you can view the Sync Log.
Each folder has a blue eye symbol on the corner of file and folder icons. Ther eis a folder created under the folder drive I wanted to back up/sync, this is named ".SynologyWorkingDirectory" and this is with a small red X symbol on the folder. It also has a "#SynRecycle" with the same red X symbol. Would appreciate the guidance, as I have been hitting walls just trying to use the NAS as a backup device. I would love to stream with it and such, but the basics are not so easy on the user. I have used Retrospect with ease, as well as Acronis TrueImage with ease, among others. It maybe permissions and such, as I see on the NAS side in Control Panel the folder I am syncing into shows Advanced permissions Disabled, SHared Folder QUota, and Compression Disabled...I figured perhaps Advanced Permission maybe needed? Also on the Desktop CS Drive app, I select Resume Syncing, and it shows nothing and remains with a green check mark symbol on the folder. Sync Log is empty. I have selected the Syn Direction as Download data from Cloud Station Server Only. This maybe the issue. From my understanding of your explanation suggested that this would mean user can only download from the server as they access this folder. But this may be that only the server data gets pushed tot he desktop? And since there is no data, nothing is added/? *Update!* So after I created a folder in the Server folder, the Cloud Sync DID create this folder on my Desktop! SO, perhaps this is to move files from Server to Desktop only. So this maybe that a feature such as Desktop TO server is missing, and only has the sync feature. SO I selected Sync both ways, and all files are getting copied to the Server side. This doesn't make sense to me, as the main files would be on the Desktop, then to the NAS as backup, and the option to NOT overwrite desktop files should be a safety measure.
Hi , I have a responsibility that I can not find an answer to. I installed Cloud Station server on my Synology NAS. I use "Cloud station drive" on my computer to synchronize the files on my computer with the server. Synchronization works in two-way. but I could not figure out exactly what the settings in the this part some configuration. " Global Settings- Advanced- Choose a default action when re-linking fetched from yournas" No matter what option is selected, if I delete a file from my computer, it is also deleted from my server. Is this normal? Thanks all
Yes, this is the way two-way sync is intended. If you don't want files deleted locally to be deleted off your NAS, then you can use sync files one-way. This will also prevent you from editing a file which may be something you stil want to do.
what I want to say is, Even if I select the second option, if I delete a file from my computer, it will not be downloaded again from the server Choose a default action when re-linking occurs * Locally deleted files will be re-fetced from your NAS * Locally deleted files will be removed from your NAS
Yes I know, The same is true when I select both options. I choose " Locally deleted files will be removed from your nas" but still the files not removed from NAS
So the files are NOT deleting from the NAS then? Sorry I thought the opposite was the case. Are you sure two-way sync is being used. Also possibly check the user your syning under. I've never tried it before but if they have read-only access then if they delete something it may no delete from your NAS.
Do you have a video on the latest Synology "DRIVE" app which replaces the Cloud Server? Is there a way to share a single file on your drive without sharing the folder and without moving it to a shared folder? thanks
I really wish you'd slow down when giving info. The info, judging by the imagws, is great but explenations and narrations on all your vids are so fast. I've found this on all your vids so far. Please don't take this as trolling, it is genuine feedback.
