In this series of videos I wanted share some of how I breakdown the basics of synth programming. I'm not focusing on any of the usual nerd speak associated with this topic, but more of a down to earth explanation. I hope it is easy for you to understand and therefore learn from.
Take care,
-Ed.

You explained this perfectly for a beginner. I really appreciate it man. Every video until this one, they fail to acknowledge the little guys knowledge on this! Thank you.

I bought a Gaia this year to learn about how to program a synth. Finally getting started. A lot of general negativity about this synth, however if I learn how to program it will be worth it. So glad I found your RU-vid on the subject. Thank you so much. 😀

Thanks very much Ed for making this so easy to understand and also for presenting the concepts as they relate to each other in one big picture by using the Gaia synth. Excellent!

Thanks for the simple breakdown, other vids people talk in circles and it gets more confusing and annoying. This is easy to understand and actually helpful.

Let me think about this. I think I have 2 ways you could re-create it. I'll do one version with a X8 and another example with the Gaia. I'll have something shot and posted this weekend.

Just got one of these for the purpose of teaching synthesis...but I'm really sad that Roland stopped selling the Sound Designer Software...didn't realize it was discontinued. :(

Hey Ed, is it safe to say that the Gaia is the modern day equivalent of a Mini Moog? That's what it reminds me of. Will it do a long (adjustable) glissando throughout the range of the keyboard? As an example, I'm speaking of the minimoog solo in Heart's, "Magic Man (where the keyboardist does the long, slow, downward slur from the high F# to the lowest F# on the keyboard). The rate at which this effect occurs is adjustable on a Mini Moog. I can't recreate this on my Roland X7.

So is the lfo a more imple way of controlling the amp and the filter?

Ed. When you initialise one of the presets and create the string sound, do you lose the initial preset. I take it once you have created a new sound you can save that sound without losing the preset sound.
@EdDiazKeys
@EdDiazKeys 6 лет назад
You only lose the preset sound if you choose to Write the new sound over the initialized sound. You can actual save the sound anywhere you would like.

Pulse/PWM is not a type of waveform, but a square wave which you can adjust the pulse width.
