For someone like me without a formal musical education, this helps me a lot. I really appreciate this since it is free for all. thank you.

Just to be clear, that correction I mentioned re: veltrk was about 12:30 into the video where you were talking about the AMP section. Hey I just finished watching the whole thing. Effing fantastic video man. It's too easy to find people nattering on about rubbish during these sorts of walk-throughs but your video was all really interesting and useful commentary. The examples at the end were also very helpful. Cheers.

Because this is a tutorial, here's what "VCS" and "FAT" knobs actually do. "VCS" is the number of "FAT" voices per synth's oscillator (more like extra oscillators than voices because they do not affect the polyphony). It goes from 2 to 10. "FAT" is the voices' detune amount as well as the on/off switch for the "VCS". The "FAT" knob has two stages, from 1 to 63 and from 64 to 127. Each of the two stages affects the left and the right channel of the synth (the oscillators panned to those sides) in a different manner depending on the amount of the voices dialed in by the "VCS". When the "FAT" knob is in the 0 position there are no extra voices no matter which position is the "VCS" knob in. As soon as you start turning it clockwise, the synth starts distributing the voices specified by the "VCS" knob across the stereo field as well as detuning them against each other, against the synth's main oscillators and the synth's main oscillators against each other. Each main oscillator responds differently to dialing in the "FAT".

Bro...I know I'm real late with this one...but just had to comment still.. I'm only 15 mins in... but had to say what an amazing job you have done of breaking this {complicated looking) synth down with your examples, and also the way you explained it, real nice and easy to understand. Love from the UK South of da border!! Hope you and the family are blessed bro. 😎

Great stuff, many thanks for putting this together and sharing. I have Vanguard and I have been like a blind man stumbling my way through it (really I should have just RTFM). That's a killer pad sound you got yourself there. Thanks again.

Velocity Track or (veltrk) changes the volume or the envelope level depending on how hard you press the note, key track is what changes it depending on the key you hit. Great video but i figured id throw that out there.

This synth is underrated and it sounds incredible, specially if you're making music. I forgot which DJ/PRoducer I Was watching that used this and V-Station. But it was one of these million dollars headlining DJ/Producer

This is one really cool definitive synth tutorial! Yeah the extra knobs kinda confuses me. That's why I'm gonna watch it again and again until I fully grasp the principles... especially the envelopes! #TheDefinitiveSynthTutorialEver

Great tutorial man. Still going though it. I played with the 'velocity tracking' (veltrk) and found that it is NOT the same as keytracking as inferred in your video. A value of zero (default) means there is no change in volume depending on midi not velocity (how hard you strike the keyboard). A value of 100% means you get the full range of touch sensitivity. Minus (-) 100% works the opposite. Light touch is louder, heavy hit is soft. Peace!

Hey really great tutorial, helped me out a lot! I've been editing your strings patch a bit and I created a sound I really like. However, for some reason it starts with a "noise" hit when I don't put any attack on it (which is what I want). Do you have any idea what could be causing this?
@threecirclesaudio
@threecirclesaudio 11 лет назад
Cool, thanks for the correction - always one of the lesser used features IMO, at least I obviously never use it!

This is the best tutorial I have watched. I wish someone like you explain to me other synthesizers I have. I own Vanguard for 2 days and I already know everything about how to use it thanks to you. I know Vanguard is very basic but I still learned something.

Threecircles Recording Studio It's been a while now and I can say this synth may have some limitations sound wise but it's one of the synths I use on almost any composition. Keep the good work :)

Wow. Thanks a million for that tutorial brother. I have to agree with Tyler on that one. This is definitely the best tutorial on synthesis I've seen so far (after lots of searching over a few months). You've managed to simplify what many other people present as this complicated, nearly dark art. Haha. The best thing about it is that the principles apply to other synths as well. Thanks again. I think my writers' block for the day has been cured! I'll have to check out your other videos!

+TakisT888 Yes, although I think the video was filmed in 32-bit Logic. Seems very glitchy in 64bit running a bridge on my system....

Reset everything how you want it and then simply save that preset as #default - this will then be the starting state for the plugin when you load it up. Check my other video for details: Logic Pro 9: Changing Default Settings
