Well done Gelbar. Your accent is very refreshing. I'm in the USA, so I love to hear a difference in not only opinion but actual voice. I love your historic approach to this and finally putting a video out about the beginning of this great genre of music we have all fallen in love with. I consider Synthwave as the overall "umbrella" of our music, with the other like Darkwave and Dreamwave falling under it. Synthwave itself has become the category.
MY man, this is for sure absolutely GREAT, i just love to hear your point of view of the history of Synthwave. This is the first time i´ve heard somebody put this together so from me, much cred to you Gelbar for doin this!! ;)
Holy shit your French accent kills my ears, but BIG thank you for the subtitles and this video! :) Been loving the whole thing since Jean-Michel Jarre. My father listened to JMJ all the time, so as a kid I grew up loving this kind of music.
Absolutely love this look into Synthwave! Discovered the genre about a year or two ago and it just resonated with me in a way that other music has not! So glad to have discovered it!
I barely lived in the 80's. Born in '89. But I did grow up with a lot of 80's and 90's TV-series, and much of the music from that time is what synthwave is inspired by.
I always loved synthwave, and I also love the artists that inspired it. Here's a list of some of my favorite musical artists, from oldest to newest: Kraftwerk Vangelis Tangerine Dream Tomita John Carpenter Jean Michel-Jarre Yellow Magic Orchestra Giorgio Moroder The Human League Depeche Mode Yazoo/Yaz Vince DiCola Erasure Pet Shop Boys Daft Punk Mitch Murder College Droid Bishop Dynatron FM-84 Timecop1983
Excellent ! PS : That french accent though... Emmm Belgium I mean !
Merci !
Extremely well researched, well written, and well-edited video man. I got interested in the genre from the movie drive, thanks for telling me the awesome backstory of the Kavinsky. "What superpower does he have?" "None. just a big dick." lol
Nice documentary. The French accent is a nice variant to the annoying voices heard on BuzzFeed or TMZ. It sounds genuine. I liked the little shots of Fallout 4. Coincidentally/Unfortunately that apocalyptic pessimism of the 80's has returned given the recent H-bomb test by N. Korea...
1982 baby checking in. I am SO HAPPY I found this. I just realized this music was still a thing. OMG just discovered LazerHawk and Gunship 2 weeks ago. I'm so HAPPY. P.s great work music
Great video and looking forward to the series! You captured really well what I love about this genre, the unabashed grandiosity, cheese and emotionality of it all. It's over the top, it feels like it's driven by vision and emotion and it makes no excuses for it. Modern pop culture seems like a barren and soulless wasteland compared to it. I hope it doesnt lose that when it becomes more mainstream...
This was a great watch. However no one seems to acknowledge the influence that the genres of Italo and HiNRG have on Synthwave. I feel they are the most prominent element in the blueprint of the Synthwave sound. I get the soundtrack stuff, the Synth Pop as well, but Italo and HiNRG are a major component.
It took me a long time to realize that only Americans have hard times with other accents. Seems everyone else from other countries - even Canada - understand everyone elses accents easily. I think mostly because everywhere else in the world are many cultures, but most Americans are only ever exposed to their own local neighborhood culture.
Great info video, hope for more like this. P.S. your english and accent are very easy to understand, have no idea what these other people are talking about.
Dude synth is so rad man i feel that shit inside my consciousness . Work it makes me feel half robotic an shit an it gives you adrenaline by just feeling the music . Perturbator an wice little carpenter brut I'm sayin I love most genres of synth wave
I want to make animations with a touch of music from Synthwave, I'm practicing with an XD online synthesizer although I have a piano that also emulates the synth but not connect it to the PC
