A customer was told by another tech that his vintage ARP Odyssey's filter was dead and would need to be replaced with an aftermarket filter. The customer liked the sound of his filter so he brought it to me and I de-encapsulated it and fixed it so he could get back the exact sound he valued his vintage Odyssey for.
For those who don't want to invest in such a labor of love, I now have my own true-to-original filter clones for the 4023 and other ARP filters available on my website:

The 4023 is the most celestial and glorious of all filters. Well, I'll relax with the hyperbole, but what it does will never be replicated. Thanks for keeping one going! David Friend was INSANE when he called it 'nasaly', hence, they abandoned it. Nice work and great vid!

Fixing synths is easy. At least he makes it appear that way... actually, cracking open the filter module is quite easy (if you like this type of chore, that is).

In addition to trying to stop people from fixing and seeing the actual circuit, I wonder if the silicone potting helps stabilize the filter from changes in ambient temperature?
@Synthchaser
@Synthchaser 6 лет назад
If it does, it does so much less than the temperature compensating resistor in the circuit.

apparently WD40 will be a massive help in removing silicone sealant type products - have you tried this?

I’d really love to figure out what’s wrong with my mark 1. What do you charge?

awesome! thank you...do you know if the early tonus 2600 potted modules have silicone inside or is it all epoxy?

Those are epoxy, unfortunately.

What Op amps do you replace the 311's with?
@Synthchaser
@Synthchaser 6 лет назад
The originals are LM301, which are still in production.

My mistake I though you had said 311. What do you do for 741's replace them with 741's or something better?
@Synthchaser
@Synthchaser 6 лет назад
Generally I'll replace 741s with 741s, and others with the original one the manufacturer used, if they're still available. I know there are higher performing op amps available, but many people prefer to stay true to the original character of the instrument.
