A legend that sounds very much like a down to earth kinda guy and I bet he’s never forgotten his roots....big respect for you Phil and always loved your music 😃
Vincent Rice yep I sold my arp odyssey keybed and case to him after I rack mounted mine up....I know where you live Phil ....joke for the non brits who don’t get our humour.
I sold Maryn Ware a Midi-CV convertor a few years back .. once i realised who had brought it i asked for a signed photo .. nothing ever arrived .. not even a reply ! ..thanks Martyn ! .. i`ll collar you at the next SynthFest !!
Yeah ya gotta love Phil .. i usually go to Synthfest as it`s not too far from where i live .. and the ONE TIME i did not go (due to feeling laid up on the day) .. who do i hear was swanning around ? ... nuff` said ... but Synthfest will return once all this crap is over .. and i will get my chat n selfie with the legendary Phil Oakey !! (and or Martyn Ware who also frequents!) ...
Man, even his speaking voice is iconic…Ive heard it a million times. He’s speaking of that Traveler filter, that is in a few gadgets. It’s a deeeep growl. Being Boiled used it, I believe….
I had the pleasure of meeting the Human League after a gig and I can confirm they are all genuine down to earth wonderful people, it was like talking to friends I'd known for years.... If only!
A great guy , pioneered electro pop music back in time , a proper commercial electro pop songs . " Don't you want me " " Fascination " " Mirror Man " " Human " ... amazing stuff ...
ByeUK for me they need to make a new album or at least make new music even if they put out odd songs or just release them until they have an album made
THIS.....Travelogue is still my fave; 'Black Hit of Space', 'Dreams of Leaving'. still today sound waaaay ahead of their time....James Murphy of LCD Soundsystem 'ripped' that album off left and right. All hail Martyn Ware. ;)
Reproduction and travelogue both pioneers of synth and essential listening fav song on reproduction austerity girl one and travelogue is touchables and wxjl tonight just incredible
Used to comb my hair sideways (still do) and try to sing like Phil, but blimey! I can't get behind the chin carpet. Looks like things went awry with the morning's Marmite on toast.
No offence meant at all to Phil, but I genuinely thought this was Gary Glitter when I saw that bald head & chin beard combo. Again, not saying this to be rude, but it's maybe not the best look to sport.
