Thank you...what a marvelous video. My late father and I, have followed SU for over 50 years, and GMac was a favorite....I especially get teary-eyed, at how hard Gerry hugs Mike Hopkins.
clutch cannot describe g-mac...he was so much more than that...tough,gritty,had the heart of a warrior, he never ceased to amaze me especially during tourny time...he is one of syracuse's finest
Damn i just cried. My dad introduced me to Syracuse basketball when i was in 3rd grade; during that magical 02-03 season. I grew up on McNamara, and it was sad to see him go. He was a class act.
Gerry McNamara is flat out the best guard ever to play at the dome! his legacy was set even before the 2006 big east tourney. with respect to pearl, moten and the other great guards, gerry is the greatest. i will never forget watching the 06 big east tournament. Thank you Gerry!!
He is probably the most beloved Orangemen of all-time when it comes to basketball - 6 three pointers made in the first half of the NCAA Championship Game back in 2003 is his legacy along with his toughness
Oh, like I said, he has what most players don't have and that's having supreme confidence that you know in your own mind, that you will come through in the clutch and not choke. Few players truly have that ability!
its his height why he's not in the nba, to be a good NBA player u basically HAVE TO have size, not many short guys have ever really done good in the NBA, and the ones that have are more athletic than G-Mac, he was my fav college player when he was playing but I can really see why he isnt in the NBA
Gmac, along with possibly Ernie Davis and Donovan McNabb, are without a doubt the most beloved athletes in SU history. He could run for mayor and I would have a better chance beating him in a 3 point contest than he would have of losing. He was, and will always be missed. Ya think anyone else will ever wear number 3? lol. Fat chance, and it ain't because of Preston Shumpert either,(who I was a huge fan of btw).
Watch G-mac in the NCAA tournament against Texas. He took T.J. Ford and did quite well. I remember Gerry backing him up to the foul line and hitting a fade away with nothing but net. Another time, T.J. stole the ball near the top of the key. Gerry chased him down from the other side of the court and knocked the ball out of his hands, albeit fouling him. G-Mac has a terrific game but not so T.J.. T.J. goes to the pros and Gerry??? I am putting this on many of Gerry's Videos.
I'm from Scranton and in touch with his sisters mother-in-law who keeps me informed and it just breaks my heart not to see him in the NBA. So many honors at Syracuse. The best one two punch in his Freshman year with 'Mello and I here all types of accolades when he was in all of these camps before college impressing the scouts. There are/were plenty of small men who have made it in the NBA and like someone said, injuries is a big factor. Working your whole life to be sidelined by injuries !!!!
bottom line, gerry was the best syracuse point guard ever!! right there with pearl washington! not 1 player i want with the ball with time left on the clock than gerry!!
not to say gmac couldnt help a team out in the nba, but what you just said is down right dumb. hakim warrick was a much higher nba talent coming out of syracuse.
