Whoever shot this scene. Brilliant. You can see she wants to save him, but she needs to know he loves her. She tempts him with the, you need only ask. And yet he keeps asking for forgiveness. Love isn't just romantic either. It's about the care you show for them. He's dying and all he cares about is how much pain he caused her. Soon as she hears that she kisses him whilst he's still on land, knowing he truly means it. It's the complete opposite of the earlier scene. The kiss means he can breathe underwater and that's given to him before he's pulled under to save him. 10/10
Say whatever you want about POTC, but I genuinely LOVE these kinds of stories the series whips up. They have a fairytale/bedtime story feel that feels so alive. Making you admire the beauty of the character's interactions and then ending it just enough for it to not to feel too abrupt yet still feel very mysterious, leaving you to wonder to your imagination's furthest extent, what the characters go on to do. Very short but with just enough life to be fascinating.
KoOkiEzRoCkz I loved this film also Philip and Syrena had a so much more believable romance than Will and Elizabeth and those two had three movies together to show their chemistry, but I just never believed it!
Say what you want, I actually liked the love story between Syrena and Philip because it's sad, heartbreaking and bittersweet, symbolically and literally.
It's untold legend that mermaids seek men who have a heart that protects or are righteous, kiss them to let them breathe underwater and bring them to their nest to mate with them. They're like vampires of the sea, instead of a bite, it's a kiss
this scene is so powerful, in every way. it is told that mermaids are women who didn't get a place on noah's ark. so these women had to adapt to the water to survive and became mermaids. and philip with his religious spirit felt in some way that before he have to ask for help, even if serena offered him help, he wanted first the forgiveness. so serena saw that his heart is pure and worth saving.
They were actually turn into mermaids as a curse. Generations back they slept with fallen heavenly watchers. They used to be humen females. The heavenly watchers were also punished by being put in change of everlasting darkness. This is the real life origin of where mermaids come from. To this day when they are near humens they are secretive. Some people have reported seeing them.
Trailer Mashup Production Yeah.... a mermaids kiss saves anyone from drowning.... as the legend goes It a mermaid kisses you she grants you the gift to breathe and live underwater With her.... and I’m guessing it also keeps your ears from popping 😂
Samantha the trash A siren was originally half bird half woman... not half fish. The word your looking for is Sirena which is Spanish/Italian/Filipino ect for Mermaid... and they too were known to drown sailors.
CeCe Johns why there is another movie it's called Pirates of the Caribbean dead men tell no tales but sadly the love couple aren't in it wait how would I know? it's not out yet lol
When I first watched this part I thought she killed him, but now I know she used a mermaid kiss that lets you breath underwater and eventually turn into a merman.
For those wondering what happened afterwards: Syrena kissed Philip, confirming the legend that a mermaid's kiss prevents drowning by giving him the ability to breathe underwater, and pulls him into the pool to freedom. His further fate is unknown. Many speculate their fate: Some say he lived with her, secluded from all mermaids to continue their passionate love life together and have mer-children. Others that he became part of the mermaids clan as a merman, leading them to repentance and faith, making them stop killing humans. Others that Syrena took Philip to safety to an island and transformed her tail into human legs, allowing her to have a human life with Philip. And some that he became King Triton from the little mermaid since this is Disney property LOL Considering the 5th Movie: Dead Men Tell No Tales... the Trident of Poseidon had power over the seas, including merfolk (mermaids). The Trident possessed the power to break ANY curse at sea, so once the trident was broken in the film, ALL CURSES and MAGIC was broken... Philip returned to his normal human form (as seen with Salazar and his crew, Will Turner released from Dutchman and... even Davy Jones being resurrected?) ... But what about the merfolk? They are mythical creatures of the sea, not curses. I personally believe the merfolk also turned into regular humans due to being half human. Thus, Philip and Syrena continued their love and family as regular humans afterwards, a happy ending to all characters in this Pirates franchise.
The prequels aren’t bad films, but Anakin and Padme’s relationship should have been fleshed out more, and Anakin should have been a few years older than her
Wow... people still discuss about this.. i was brought here by vampire diaries LOL. Anyways only two things might have happened.. the other mermaids tried to kill him after phillip became a mermaidian.. so he had to leave the sea and go back to the land. 2nd theory.. as he is changed now.. theyaccept him and they lived happily...
A spin off is needed... LIKE BAD... tales of the Caribbean or something but these two should be the stars I love they're story and the ending made me wanna watch more... it'll be dope if Somehow that through in king Neptune and the lost city of Atlantis ... MAKE IT HAPPEN PPL
These two had a better romance in one film than Will Turner and Elizabeth Swann had in 3 movies!!!! Plus this is my second favorite film of the series after the first one!!!
and with them there was no love triangle, William and Elizabeth's ship but i will say that their romance involved with jack It was necessary it worked as a joke at the end of the first movie but as a story meh...
yeah will and elizabeth are a incredibly boring couple with zero chemistry, i never understood their obsession with each other and the love triangle was incredibly annoying, elizabeth pretty much kissed every man before she decided on Will lol.
Friggin' love this. The interaction and conversation is so well-intentioned and honest, and has the best ending possible (not that I think she killed him or anything, I actually believe she did save him like she said she would).
Syrena: Philip, I can save you. You need only ask Philip: I seek but one thing Syrena: What is that? Philip: Forgiveness. If not for you would never have been captured Syrena: Ask Philip: Forgive me Syrena kisses him instead Philip(thinking to himself): That works too
Wow! Before reading the comments, I thought she simply became evil like the other mermaids and killed him. I never knew about the legend that says "A mermaid's kiss keeps a sailor from drowning". Dang I was upset and angry for no reason, lolll
subseven He didn‘t particularly have a choice. There‘s a good chance he wanted to clean the wound to prevent mud etc. being inside of it. So it‘s a tradeoff that increases his chances of survival to unlikely, but plausible.
okay some of yall are confused on the whole siren thing. okay so according to greek mythology (i think its greek), sirens were originally half bird half women, but while they were flying over sea, a huge storm came and they ended up falling in the water. Poseidon felt bad so he gave them the lower body of a fish and the ability to breathe underwater so they could survive. thats why these creatures are called sirens as well .
This couple is the best part of the entire Pirates Of The Caribbean series and the best love story in Disney. It’s such BS they haven’t shown Phillip and Syrena again. A Pirates Of The Caribbean movie of just Phillip and Syrena would be amazing.
I was disappointed Philip and Syrena wouldn’t be in the fifth installment, but I was also glad that Sam and Astrid weren’t a part of that embarrassment of a “movie” more like parody. They deserve better than Dead Men Tell Cringey and boring Tales
EDH 1970 I think the two stories are good but not together. I felt it was a waste of both pirates and the couples story’s time and should’ve been separate.
@@RJTheCerealGuy no, the kiss doesn't turn you into a merman, only gives you the ability to breath underwater, she mates with him and then eats him, that's the story of the mermaids
In the movie Pirates of the Caribbean: on strangers tide, they say "a mermaids kiss keeps a sailor from drowning " what happened, they kissed, so if you're wondering what happened to them ,Philip wasn't killed, he was cured and helped
Legend has it that a kiss from a mermaid can give you some amazing abilities, including being able to breathe underwater. Other stories suggest that a kiss from a mermaid may also give the receiver other enchanting powers such as the ability to heal people. Along side the magical powers of a kiss, the tears of a mermaid are said to unlock the power from the fountain of youth. Mermaids don’t have a great singing voice Many people think that mermaids have a beautiful singing voice which they used to lure sailors onto the rocks, however legends states it was Sirens who were to blame for all the shipwrecks.
Now people let's not forget about the fact that he has a probably mortal wound, so now we could have the next speculations. She did kiss him, but I think that only allows him to breathe for a limited period of time just enough for her to do the following things: She may actually take him to his underwater grave She could want a human baby from him as a "souvenir" Now there are some good theories too like: Maybe that's actually how mermaids are born Or maybe she can heal him by transforming him into a triton Those are maybe some of the best and logichal theorys out there.
I think you are right with the underwater grave, but you gotta remember she is a mermaid and they eat people after dragging them into the waters usually far enough they would never be able to escape. Never know though, so its up to speculations.
or rather they would team up with Jack sparrow like William and elizabeth did since it would be very stupid for us to put the heart of the franchise as a secondary character
of course she didnt eat him. She wanted to save him because she loved him. She said ask me , and i will do it. he asked her to forgive, and she kissed him, that means she saved him.
This is my favorite scene with these two characters. They are so underrated. I’ve even written an entire fan fiction that takes place after this movie where they get married and live on land together. I’m even considering writing a continuation where they will eventually have children. ❤❤️❤️😊🥰😊💕
Makes you wonder what became of them but I am glad they never made a movie to confirm their fate. I like a little mystery in movies. I just wish other share my views here.
Ok here's the original idea for pirates 5 regarding syrena and philip. The original story for Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales was set to continue this relationship, where Philip has become a cartographer who is searching for Syrena, who went back to the sea. This confirms that he didn't die as some of you thought. They simply just replaced the storyline. But for the script from the writer, this is how things are meant to pan out therefore, it's a real ending. Just not in the movies.
i used to always think at this scene she just seduced him and killed him, but i remembered that in the beginning one of the sailors said that a kiss from a mermaid protects a sailor from drowning
Well, Mermaids/Sirens are considered to be demons... and demons are mostly considered to be liars. So it would've been pretty twisted to believe she ultimately betrayed the poor fellow in this scenario.
