Although the Syrian nation is in great turmoil at this posting...we lovers of great jetliners hopes that this particular jetliner escapes the kind of harm that came upon the Iraqi Airways 747SP.
Heathrow Heaven!! This had such a distinctive sound ,when it took off over where I live you would'nt need to look up ,you just knew Syrian SP!! Great to see her in the original delivery livery - and the classic Syrian SP rotation and early climb out ( they ALWAYS did this - at LHR anyway) thanks for posting
Yes. AA ordered and received a full order of 19 standard 747s. But AA was primarily a domestic carrier. They started to dispose of them in the 1980s after they were gone.. AA received the more fuel efficient MD11s..but they could not do the newly awarded DFW-NRT route. So AA turned again to the 747SP, but this time two ex-TWA ships.
Is this the reason very little 747 (of all varients) had never been so common among US carriers even today? AA did have some 747 for a short peroid in the 70's didnt they?
YT is acting up and not letting me know when you have uploaded videos like this classic. I beleive this aircraft and the other SP of RB have been at RUH for some time now as a source of spare parts for tge SV SFS 747SP. wonderful seeing her here flying as she was intended... why did Boeing stop production of this bird so early.. i shal never know. Yeah, I know YT can be such pain at times. So looking at this discussion it's hard to tell what really will happen. But one thing is for certain, Assad will go. And mostly likely the embargoes will end and the ships return home. The demand for 747SPs during production were rather limited due to very few carriers lacking great demand for extremely long haul point-to-point services. Esp. not daily svcs. Spoke and hub services filled planes quicker and more frequently.
Mayby because the 747SP couldn t take full load and the development of the B747-200B who could fly non-stop,New York-Tokyo for example(PANAM-customer)..thats what I think,I once had a beaitiful book about the 747SP but gave it away as a gift when I moved...were many stories there about 747SP and why it wasn t a success..in 1976,it had the range of the B744 today??
For sure it's before the fucked up "revolution" the revolution of extremists and jihadis.. So it's at the very beginning of 2011 I think.. Before everyone decided to end all the relationships with us..
