I saw SOAD when they were touring with Mudvayne and Slipknot. SOAD was one of the best bands I have ever heard live. That was when I was 17...I am 39 now...and their music catalogue is still one of the best. They do not make a bad song..not one.
I'm jealous of you I was born in 2005 and I really like rock, punk, metal and grunge. I miss those days when rock was still in mainstream, I hope I was teenager in 90's.
I love how (almost) every major band this era that played MTV shit on it... Without knowing what it'd become decades later. They'd see "these" years as the golden times of MTV, considering.
SOAD is and always will be a favorite band of mine. But it would be a lie to say that the majority of their performances weren't them just fried outta their minds fucking up their own songs. Serj is flat most of the time and Daron doesn't give a shit about how his guitar sounds or if it's even tuned.
Hats down for the drummer and the bassist! You have to train very hard to be able to perform the songs without a mistake, despite this ego-shitting from the two geniuses besides you .... (the bad side of the great talent)
Seriously. If you are gonna be that shitty live just play a backing track so you can act as stupid as you want and still sound decent. Especially when it's gonna be played around the world forever.
Sure... Blame Gibson and not the player.... Hmmmm, I like it! Psycho Groupie Cocaine Crazy, BOUNCE! pogo pogo pogo pogo.... Daron just don't give a P.L.U.C.K.
I love your delivery... Like a handler for Daron via the label whose sole task is to get him through the tour and maximize the money flow going to the corporate powers that be.....
I missed an entire concert of theirs because one of my buddies flopped like a fish and we handed him over a gate to some security guards. The when we went around to get him he was nowhere to be found. We were concerned because we thought they might have taken him to get help from EMS. We ended up looking for him the entire concert and missing the whole show. A travesty I will never forget as long as I live..
They played badly on purpose out of protest to MTV for forcing them to cancel tour dates and hold to a contract to do the Awards show Literally they are as counter culture as it gets so, makes sense to play badly as an F you to MTV.
Maybe I'm deaf, but what's so bad about the performance? I keep seeing comments that they purposely did a bad job but all I'm hearing is maybe some out of tune instruments.
@@godiloveminininjas4278 Yeah, I know the story. I'm saying I can't really see what's so bad about it. It's not their best it's definitely not bad in my opinion.
The first performance is definitely not bad on purpose, look at how serj is pissed at Daron for fucking up at the end chorus, and I've seen alot of performances of Chop Suey and Serj has never been this close to hitting all the notes properly during a live performance of it. On BYOB it could very well be that messed up on purpose, but the drummer doesn't look like he's trying to, rather flawless performance from him I'd say.
Nah they’re just so good they can’t play THAT bad on purpose Also it’s better as a troll to only mess up specific notes lol like just when you think they’re done messing with you, they do it again...and again
asterios they were sick of what MTV was becoming and knew this would be their final performance with the MTV platform, never to return. One of the reasons why the majority of every known rock band that were at the MTV awards from the beginning close to 2010 were becoming stagnant. And they were right that MTV were becoming a bullshit hypocritical hierarchy “we get to decide” what’s best for the audience and it’s platform.
@@squall600 I don't blame them for not wanting to have anything to do with MTV because that is something that I paid close attention to as the years went by less and less Rock act were being featured on the show I just like you said and one of them were being nominated I feel like that was the beginning of rock music depressed out of the mainstream for more mass produced quantity Music and the sad part is nowadays everyone calls Machine Gun Kelly Rock absolutely fucking sad
@@weerawatchsuriyo9691 I think it had to do with the fact that MTV had described the band as a “political punk rock band” at some point, and even though it’s really undeniable that a good amount of their music is political, they hate being classified as a political band. I get where they’re coming from cause not all of their music is political, but it’s also a little pretentious of them to say that, because a lot of their music is political; they’re definitely not punk though lol. But that’s why in BYOB, when Daron sings his section, he says “blast off/it’s party time/and this ain’t no bullshit political punk rock”. So that’s why Daron fucks up so much in this performance, and why Serjs singing sounds like really disinterested.
@@weerawatchsuriyo9691 Also, what said only applies to BYOB; Chop Suey has some minor mistakes but I don’t think they were on purpose, because that was a couple years before
Context: I love this band, they’re amazing. The songwriting is so unique, the vocals and harmonies are unlike anything in the last 25 years and there’s a really good reason they sold millions of records. I’m not sure if they just take a punk rock approach to live shows but I have never ONCE seen them play well live. Not just in videos like this but I saw them irl twice and it was… well like this. Love you SOAD, but I’ll never pay to see you live ever again. Also John has some pretty gnarly political/conspiracy views that are off putting. I don’t care if you like trump but when you get into the flat earther stuff and making a long time fan like myself turn off maybe keep that shit to yourself. Great records are great, weird rhetoric and embarrassing live performances… not so much.
Great take on them, unique comment! When they made "steal this record" everything was polished in studio. It's got to be hard for them to recreate that live. There's a lot of quirky screaming and fast time signatures.
