The historic Jewish quarter in the 7th district of Budapest is one of the oldest, most interesting and atmospheric parts of the city. To this day, the most important institutions, synagogues, cultural and administrative buildings related to the religious life of Hungarian Jews are located here. In the Pest part of the city you can take long walks, wandering through its alleys, marveling at the beauty of the facades of houses and admiring hidden places and traces of a bygone, rich era. During World War II, the largest Budapest ghetto was located here. And today, everywhere you can still come across signs reminiscent of the era of the Jewish state of emergency. The Jewish quarter of Budapest is living a new life: along with kosher restaurants and bakeries, ritual Jewish baths, local bars and restaurants are booming again, and iconic ruin pubs and eclectic entertainment venues are opening one after another in buildings that were once doomed to demolition.
