STIHL PolyCut 6-2 mowing head The PolyCut 6-2 cutting head, from the STIHL range, is a versatile cutting tool. It is a cutting head fitted with two movable plastic knives. Optimised for use with battery brushcutters, it is perfectly efficient, thanks to a large 33-centimetre cutting circle. Ideal for cleaning and mowing large areas. The packaging includes the two components of the cutting head, the base : The blade-holding plate: A small steel locking rod: The two movable blades: And finally four spare knives. Assembly is simple, with the base placed on the motor support: On this side of the base is the knife-holding plate. This has two stainless steel studs on the inside, which are the axes of rotation for the knives. I place the knives on the rotation axes. I block the rotation of the head support on the motor block, using the small steel rod that I insert into the hole provided for this purpose, until it fits into one of the notches in the head support. I now place the cutting head on the motor's rotation shaft, holding the knives in place. Then I screw the head on. All that's left to do is remove the steel rod that locks the head support, and the machine is ready for use. These mobile knives are used to mow the edges of obstacles such as walls and rocks, and various other abrasive materials, so they wear out more or less quickly. It's important to check their condition frequently. If one of the knives has a crack, for example, it's essential to change it and replace both knives, because a new knife and a second, worn knife in different states of wear will cause vibrations. The same applies to their state of wear, which must not exceed this measurement. So this mowing head is very practical for brush cutting, gardening and maintenance around the house!
