Story behind this piece: Over my Spring Break this year, I went to Puerto Supe, Peru with a Fellowship at my college called Chi Alpa. Part of our time there was spent doing construction and other time was spent doing outreaches at school. I had the opportunity to dance three times while I was there. The first time at a local church, and the next two times at high schools in the city. The first highschool we went to I decided to dance bare foot. The ground was so hot that I as I danced my feet burned through the bottom and they started to rip skin as I turned and by the end of the piece, I walked off and immediately looked at my bloody and blue feet. That being said, it was the most powerful experience of dance I have ever had. God was asking me to give Him everything in my worship, my testimony of His love, and in my own life. We cleaned and wrapped up my feet and I was ready to perform the next day. However, this time I struggled a lot with some of the moves and had to change choreography on the spot due to pain. So, this is a video of the last time I did a dance to this song. Part of me wishes that I had a video of the first time I danced this, but in a way, that makes that experience special. I left a part of me in Peru. Also, this trip helped me realize anew the power of dance in communication. I could tell them all about God's love without speaking in my broken spanish. And people listened. God stirs in our hearts. He takes even this broken offering in which I could not give my very best and He fills the gaps and ultimately it is Him who is speaking and being magnified. I hope this inspires you to use dance to reach out to others!
