The T-54 and T-55 tanks were a series of main battle tanks designed in the Soviet Union. The first T-54 prototype appeared in March 1945, just before the end of the Second World War. The T-54 entered full production in 1947 and became the main tank for armored units of the Soviet Army, armies of the Warsaw Pact countries, and others. The T-54/55 series eventually became the most-produced tank in history. Estimated production numbers for the series range from 86,000 to 100,000.
yup! the origins were even earlier than 1945 - it used to be T-45, which was the new chassis and haul (which ended up on T-54) but with T-34-type turret. But, Soviets realized they don't need T-45, since T-34 was good enough for the job. So, they scrapped T-45 and designed a new turret and named it T-54 and later with minor changes T-55.
@556Smiley Transform this tank into a teleguided drone, much better for mass production without human sacrifice. If it blows doesn't matter send more ;)
