T'au and Kroot - BUY OR NOT? What Are People Doing!

T’au buy or not T’au buy. That is the question.

Started a Tau army because I liked the idea of Tau auxiliaries. So obviously I’m pretty happy with the new Kroot and want more auxiliaries like new Vespid models and other races would be cool too.

The old Kroot box had 16 models, whilst the new only has 10. Might as well get the Kill Team and get a couple Hounds into the bargain for barely any more money (And may be able to kitbash the Shapers)

Got two Kroot hunting packs ($185 each on Amazon), a box of farstalkers, Farsight, Shadowsun, a pair of broadsides, and I have the old Combat Patrol getting me 3 stealth suits and ghostkeel. All of the suits are getting kitbashed with Kroot pilots and kitbashed armor plates, and the Krootox are all getting kitbashed guns because they're better. My idea is that a Tau force got wiped out while the Kroot disappeared into the jungle while salvaging the suits and a few Earth caste technicians to get them running. It should be fun, I'm probably going for more a Destiny Fallen kind of look.

GW liked AdMech so much they made another army have it's price/model ratio. Great sculpts, terrible TERRIBLE pricing. Time to rev up the printer... Then again, it never stopped 😉

My local store is having both a Grand Reopening and a Store Anniversary event tomorrow. I'll be heading there to pre-order the T'au codex, combat patrol and data cards! Excited for the exclusives, too!

Biggest problem with the combat patrol box is the fire warriors, they have been included in every single box (Start Collecting and Combat Patrol etc) so I guess all core Tau players already have enough of them, personally I think the Start Collecting was the best one of them, 3 Crisis suits? Yes please! So at least for me having bought 4 Start Collecting and non of the others, I got enough infantry, and the only reason to pick up the new one is for a 3rd commander and the Devilfish, pathfinders are w/e, happy little bonus.

I can still buy the Kroot box in the US from a discount retailer if I wanted it. I’m still not sold on it because it means starting a brand new army. They look cool, but man it’s a lot to stand up an army

Definitely getting the krootox rider and the lone spear for my Bork’an army and probably some rampagers because of the heavy hitting feel they give

So i'm thinking of the Combat patrol to add to my Boarding Patrol box, throw in a unit of crisis suits and another devil fish and my army will be getting close to useable Wasn't a fan of the stealth focus and etheral in the old box.

I would love a roundup of the codex. I dont get a Battelsuit list tougether with the new close range Detachment.

Pretty stoked about the whole T'au Codex + Releases, I'll probably be getting some Hounds a Lone Spear and some dice this weekend.

I really like the Kroot stuff and I guess the box is decent for people who already started a tau army since there is no overlap and a lot of people like kroot. I on the other hand haven't been super vibing with 10th, espcially since all my armies keep getting hit by Codex issues (AdMech, Dark Angels). So now I am honestly waiting for the Skaven release. Saving it up and trying to give AoS a chance

already got the kroot box + flesh shaper, 10 kroot, 1 krootox rider and 3 krootox rampagers to add to my collection of 32 kroot, 12 hounds, 1 old shaper (gonna rebase him and make him a trail shaper) and 2 old krootox riders. when preorders open up later today I'll add to that 2 lone-spears and a trail shaper.

I tried to get back into the hobby back in 2019. At the time, I really wanted some Kroot because they were such an interesting subfaction of the T'au. I decided to start a T'au army with the intention of getting a good chunk of Kroot if they ever got updated models or a full release. This has been a godsend except for the price. Arguably one of the most expensive armies in the game. Still - this is what I hoped for, so I'm not complaining too much. Will just have to progress slowly through Kroot minis. Avoid going overboard.

Just got the hunting pack and will probably pick up a couple more bits when they're released. Loving the new Kroot stuff. I'd get a combat patrol but I've got too many fire warriors and pathfinders already...

The new combat patrol just happens to be the things I already were looking to pick up next, so worked out for the greater good in my case

Who needs to buy krootox riders, when you could kitbash 3 from the rampagers box and some stuff to make a gun.

I think the only Kroot I would consider buying as a T'au player is Farstalkers if I wanted to run specifically retaliation cadre, kroot hounds if mont'ka, and lone spear if I want something spicy.

i'm buying regardless.. i have 2 hunting boxes already.. going to buy 2 lone spears, 2 boxes of hounds and 1 trail shaper tomorrow. that'll be enough kroot 😊

Tempted to get them…but not right now: -got enough unpainted armies -I’d rather wait on GW fleshing out non-Kroot auxiliaries. ‘Cause I wanna go all in on running 40k-Covenant, lol

Friend in our group didn’t want the box because it didn’t have a large model.

Really prefer tau over kroot. But did snag me one of those slamander riding spear dudes because he looks neat

As a Tau player, I’m not sure I want any kroot besides carnivores because of sticky objectives. Is there a real reason to have more if I like my suits?

About buying kroot. I took the survey and do play tau for the whole mech esthetic but I did pick up a squad of kroot carnivores because of sticky objective rule

I bought the Kroot battleforce when it came out, because I knew it was the only way I'd ever get a discount on the new sculpts. Krootox and Kroot Hounds are ruinously expensive for what you're getting. I'm going to sit and wait, hopefully GW decides to do a Christmas Battleforce with some more discounted Kroot, or maybe we'll see a Combat Patrol Kroot or something like a Boarding Patrol Kroot in the future.

Not too interested in Kroot personally (but happy for those who are!). I might get the Rampagers for their melee ability down the road. What I'm looking forward to is FINALLY getting our points so I can start building lists with the new detachments in Battlescribe. As for the Codex, I WANT the book, but honestly, the datacards will be of more use at the table than the book, and it's a lot easier to fit in the budget.

i love all the kroot models except the lone spear because i just don't think the kalamandra fits into what i invision for the kroot to ride, not that it's ugly to me.

I just bought the tau combat box and would love to pick some kroot up but i already thought tau was an expensive army to get into. For now the kroot seems a little to expensive for me.

I kitbashed the lonespear and new HQs. Its easy with kroot.

I planned to buy at leasg two or three full units of each kroot release up until a week and a half ago. But with gw going full on ministry of truth with both products and lore i've cancelled all the orders I made with my local store. I'll not be getting anything from discount sources either. Instead i've picked up the STL for the jackals from OPR. I'll use them to pad out the two hunting pack boxes i was halfway done painting before GW began its latest round of hurling things down the menory hole.

How the Ork codex only has 64% approval is insane....

I started with 40K and T'au few months ago, I am glad that I picked the old box, I also picked the Kroot one at my local store, more because I like the aesthetic of the minis than from the game perspective (and the Krootox being my favourite W40K unit of all time). However, I have already the Pathfinder KT, I was hoping for Crisis suits in the new combat patrol, but the content in it seems a bit underwhelming to be honest

When codex launches are delayed in A/NZ it really sucks because players get locked out of the app when Codex goes live rest of world but people here are unable to get an unlock code because they can't buy the book (unless they bought launch box, but point stands).

Getting the Lone Spear kit, to put a Magmadroth rider on it instead of the Kroot. GW not giving Fyreslayers anything* new outside of a few foot characters for three editions straight? Hold my runes... * ... yes, the Warcry unit exists, and looks great - but other than the token dog... I mean smol Magmadroth is still only more guys (and gals) on foot

I have the codex because I had pre ordered it before I realized it was so small. It’s good but Crsis suits aren’t to good. Farsight lead anti tank ones are the only ones looking good.

My LGS still has a lot of Kroot boxes; its a really nice set but expensive and the general overview of 10th seems lackluster. I wouldn't mind them for the collection but I'm not enjoying 10th so far so...

It’s been interesting seeing how even though there has been a lot of vocal outrage in comment sections and elsewhere that it seems GW is still good at keeping their player base engaged in new purchases. Kroot seem like they are gonna be popular indeed. And as for the custodes, Auric champions sold out on their web store as with the custodes collectors edition codex. Shows that plenty of people still have interest in the faction even though they will likely be taking a hit competitively.

I'm on a GW boycott for the time being, generally have felt dirty buying from them since the ceases and desist to the emperors text to speech, and then the drama over the Custodes codex pushed me over the edge. I am about as negative on the female Custodes change as I am with the new rules, but curious as what stories or explanations/revelations it could lead to. Like the biggest practical change was before they were demigod eunuchs, presumably because they were never meant to be what humanity should become, just there to help Shepard humanity to its emperor intended evolution. With them being a bunch of male eunuchs' was an easy visual signifier that they were not meant to reproduce on their own and be their own race. In addition it was a bit of a show he isn't making a new race/full playing god as he didn't make them in the form of man and woman (and I guess have a slight inbuilt safety mechanism that they require humanity to survive for them to continue to be created in a worst case scenario), but is that the case anymore? The reason I won't give them another dime is because how it was handled with the gaslighting and banning/blocking. If they apologize for the handling of it I'll buy books and models from them again. Until then I got a pile of shame to work through, a 3d printer than needs some love, and a sonic cleaner that I want to try out and ebay got some second hand models.

as a tau player with over 4k points invested, i can tell u i have no kroot nor do i want any lol they are good meatshields and screens cheap obj play, but the only detachment they get okayish is that kroot one. there isnt enough to make me go OH MAN GOTTA HAVE IT, i like they are expanding the model range, but for kroot to be chosen over fire warriors or crisis suits, they need to have some kick ass rules, and i dont see any lol

If I had all the time, motivation and money in the world, I would love to get a 1000 point army of them. The models looks fantastic and I always loved the lore (I remember the "kroot codex" from back in the days). It is just that... the models have too much damn detail and give me anxiety just looking at them. Also the price per points is just.. not bearable.

I'm more angry about the garbage preorder system with all the "vapor ware" models than I am about female custodes.

Frankly, if they are priced for what they should be priced in points (aka 20% less or more across the board), I won't buy any of them, because the point/$ value just sucks. And if they aren't, I won't buy them either because then they just suck :D. I already got a few from the launch box (yeah, yeah I know) and I'm already spending way too much on Tau which are one of the most expensive factions out there right now. If I ever feel the itch to run a Kroot heavy list (I might, but the datasheets look pretty boring to me) I'll just do it with proxies.

Tbh as a Tau player and a Kroot enjoyer, im not buying anything for them. I might pick up the War Shaper for a conversion opportunity, but that project won't be in the works for a while. The start collecting/combat patrol seems to get worse every iteration. I already have a sizeable kroot collection, and it was way cheaper to get them prior to the new kits. The base kroot Carnivores are decent but they are over priced irl and the rest of the kroot are just cool sculpts but their rules are meh.

the $-PPM ratio is 1:1 for most models, if not worse. so nah, I wont be starting this at all.

I like tau models, but I don’t really like what GW is up to recently. I’m also just starting though so I don’t have a full army yet that I can really just fall back on and sit for a while to see what they’re going to do next.

Kroot models are cool. But even if I had started Tau, I would not be getting them for their current prices. Not nearly enough money-to-points ratio. Also anyone that stops participating in the hobby because of lore retcons should leave forever, those aren't ever stopping. They've been a thing since first edition retconned Rogue Trader.

This video is a fail when talking about the Kroot tactics. The Flesh Shaper's buffs for Carnivore's are insane when stacked with the War Shaper, and Lone-Spear's are also amazing for their points cost. Being able to make a 20-man Carnivore squad respawn is amazing. The 'Kroot Hunting Pack' boxset is by far one of the best value boxsets out there due to how powerful the Kroot detachment actually is.

I'm going to try to use 3d printed proxies whenever possible not because of GW changes or removals but because it's too expensive and I feel that GW is either too incompetent, greedy, or lazy to fix it.
